Googletl;dr: If you're a tenant - avoid like the plague. I had over £400 and a Playstation VR stolen from my flat whilst Ellis & Co conducted multiple viewings in my absence without even informing me that anyone would be there. They also (over) charge renewal fees. I vacated the property one week early so that they could get someone new in on the condition I would receive one weeks rent back. They managed to completely screw that up and instead deducted a further weeks rent from my deposit. I had to repeatedly chase them and was told it was no longer their problem and to take it up with the landlord instead. This company couldn't go out of business fast enough for my liking. *UPDATE* Since they replied... what they're not mentioning is the police told me they had multiple viewings that they themselves had not told me about - that's the damn problem. There was one single scheduled viewing where they had informed me, I gave them the keys and said no problem to show them around without me as I would be away that day. A week went by with no further contact, I returned to the property to find items had gone missing so had to contact the police. It was only then was I informed that there had been anything up to 10 people at the place one day. I didn't make a massive fuss at the time because the general attitude from Ellis & Co was "Sorry bruv, i can tell your annoyed about this". I was still awaiting over £1,000 in deposits and overpaid rent so complaining wasn't going to do me much favour. What I wanted was to be out of place and my money returned. Anyone who rents in London will be familiar with the joy of being held to account on the whim of agents when they've got your money tied up. The other thing they are failing to understand is it was not the deposit I was after, I'm quite aware it's the landlord who returns that. No, my problem was I agreed *with Ellis & Co* directly (not the landlord, I was asked by Ellis could I leave early) that I could vacate the property a week early *if and only if* i received that extra rent back. This was all agreed with *Ellis & Co*, not the landlord. Once I moved out, all on time and with the place clean and after chasing up the return they deducted the weeks rent instead of returning it. The attitude of Ellis and Co was to wash their hands of it.

You vacated the property some time ago and the incident you raise in regards to items missing in the property happened over a year ago and you did not raise any concerns to take anything further at the time. The police were contacted and the matter was dealt with. There was no evidence to confirm anything was stolen and no negligence from the agencys' side. In regards to your deposit, the Landlord manages the property himself. Therefore only 'he' would be able to authorise the release of the deposit and until he had given written authorisation to us, we could not have released it sooner. We did also advise you of this and have copies of the emails sent to you confirming this at that time.
