I had heard good things about Charters and had been considering advertising my house for sale with them but frankly my recent experience was terrible. I had enquired about a shop to let in Romsey which appeared to be a Charters office? I called and spoke to someone called John in the commercial department who seemed completely disinterested. Clearly it was below him having to deal with my enquiry. When I requested a brochure he muttered something under his breath. I never did receive the brochure. I really thought more of Charters and considered them a go to agent in the area. I won't be using them in the future. Very disappointing!

- Before beginning the tenancy, Charters sent the paperwork to incorrect emails on two separate occasions delaying the process of completing contracts. -I had to email and call them over 10 times, in order for them to agree to give me the keys before 17:30 on my first day of tenancy -when I emailed asking a question about broadband in my property it was completely ignored. -On the day of picking up my keys, the key to the building was faulty and required jimmying the lock for around 15 minutes before it would sometimes work, or more often a neighbour let me in first. I went to Charters in person who gave me another version of the same key with the same problem. Charters told me that the key had worked historically "there was just a nack to it" - when I asked if someone could show me the "nack" in person they refused despite my property being within 100M of their building. Charters showed no urgency in solving the situation and offered no compensation for my trouble. They told me to ring the neighbours to get in throughout the weekend (against Covid guidelines), and 'at some point in the future someone will look into changing the lock'. When I expressed this wasn't practical, the manager at this branch Tracey Docherty told me to ask neighbours if I could borrow their keys to get them cut, I asked if they would accompany me to ask the neighbours for this awkward request, Charters flatly refused and said I must do it alone. - I said I wanted to leave a review when the manager told me this^, she avoided giving me a specific review website details to find myself on the internet and has yet to send this via email to me as I requested.

I have had dealings with Charters in being a potential buyer of a property which was on the market with them. When I called to arrange a viewing I was told there was no time to show me this property for just over a week as they were too busy. This property was also on the market with another agent so I called them to see if I could view the property and managed to see it that same evening. A week later we had put in an offer and were in the process of buying said property. The experience I have had with charters since then has been, in my opinion, one of complete unprofessionalism. Firstly after we had our offer accepted on the property through another agent, charters ignored instruction to take the listing down from right move and their website for the best part of a week, leaving us potentially exposed to being gazumped. It took several requests from various parties for them to remove the property from right move. Now weeks after this I am informed that charters have contacted the owner of the house we are in the process of buying, and told them that we are pulling out of the sale and have offered on another property. Understandably the owner grew concerned and had to contact the agent we are buying through to ask if this was in fact true. Our agent reassured him that this was not the case. Charters had completely misinformed the seller and put in jeopardy, our whole chain. This whole experience has been one that has instilled in me, for any future buying or selling, that I will not under any circumstances deal with charters. I feel ever since we had our offer accepted on our new home, they have gone out of their way to throw a spanner in the works. This shows me that the companies values are not in line with the community and spirit of chandlers Ford. I would not recommend this company for people selling and I would not recommend this company for people looking to buy.
