GoogleI had a very concerning experience with this agency before even being able to arrange a viewing.
I was told that before they could show me the flat, I had to complete an “income check” by opening my banking app and following their instructions so they could verify my finances in real time. I was also told that if I wasn’t willing to do this, they would not proceed with the viewing.
This is not normal or acceptable practice in the UK. No legitimate letting agent or referencing company should require live access to your bank account or pressure you into sharing sensitive financial information just to view a property.
Because of this, I did not feel safe and decided not to continue. I would strongly advise others to be very cautious and never open your banking app or share financial details in this way. Proper referencing should be done securely using documents through recognised channels, not through live access to your personal accounts.

We must clarify that we DO NOT require income checks prior to arranging viewings. Our team member was intending to explain the income requirements should you wish to proceed with a property, and that our tenant referencing process, carried out by an independent third party, includes income verification using Open Banking, which is a regulated and secure way to share financial information.
While our colleague was aiming to be transparent about the next steps, we appreciate that this may not have been communicated as clearly as it should have been.
Your feedback is genuinely appreciated and will help us provide training to our team, so we can ensure clearer communication and avoid such misunderstandings in the future.

This difference in treatment is extremely concerning and raises serious questions about discrimination and possible racism based on background or accent. Everyone should be treated fairly and equally when enquiring about a property.
I am aware of my legal rights and will consider reporting this behaviour to the relevant authorities and the local council. Practices like this should be properly investigated to ensure tenants are protected from discrimination and unsafe requests for personal financial information.
