Enquired about a £1,600pcm property today and had a genuinely poor experience with one of the agents. Before I’d even finished stating my income, he’d already decided we “couldn’t afford it” defensive and dismissive from the very start of the call.
When I pointed out we currently rent at £1,800pcm and were approved for that, he looked up an old income figure from about a year ago and used it against me, despite it still being above the property’s £48,000 threshold. Our current income is well above that. I even offered to go back over the call so he could actually hear the numbers properly - he cut the call not long after.
When I said there was no point continuing and ended the conversation, he claimed he was “just giving advice.” That’s not what a defensive, dismissive tone from the first ten seconds of a call looks like.
Poor communication and worse conduct. Wouldn’t recommend if you want a straightforward, professional enquiry.
