TrustpilotExtremely unreliable and unprofessional…
Extremely unreliable and unprofessional when obligations come onboard. They won't comply with their share of the deal and will ignore you over the phone, email and letters for longer than is reasonable acceptable.AVOID if you can, if you can't make sure you have everything that happens on the property documented. They are capable of accusing you of pre-existing damage and trying to rip you off with everytype of fees. Unreliable to carry on with property maintenance and mandatory gas and electrical reviews.

GoogleI can't really say anything good about this company. It all started when I put a rent offer on a flat. As I am self employed, one of the documents they requested was a letter from my accountants OR bank statements of my business account. I provided the later as it was free of charge, however, they insisted they needed the letter, even though I told them i my accountant wouldn't provide the letter for free and it would take up to 10 days for the letter to be produced. I paid £80 to my accountants, but the letter wasn't ready the day before of the beginning of tenancy. Magically, my application was approved without the letter, which means I wasted £80 pounds. We then collected the keys when we figured out none of the repairs AGREED AS ACCEPTANCE CRITERIA have been met. It's been FOUR MONTHS since we moved in and the repairs haven't been done. My baby roasted during all summer in a small bedroom which the window is jammed - he also had breathing issues because of mold all over the place. We have now chill season coming upon us and the heating unit is detached of the wall since the day we visited the flat. After constant chasing to the property management team, I emailed the head office but they simply ignored my email. All I can say is: AVOID THEM AT ALL COSTS. THEY HAVE NO RESPECT FOR YOUR WELL BEING.

TrustpilotHow can I explain my experience is appalling
How can I explain my experience is ALEXNEIL … painful perhaps? Was supposed to be a fun and exciting experience for me and my boyfriend however it was disappointing and heartbreaking and ALEXNEIL did nothing to help. We went for a viewing for a FULLY FURNISHED flat … when we moved in we got a ‘PART FURNISHED’ which was the sofa and dining table only. Imagine our shock and surprise. The agency had no idea when I called them, finally the landlady ordered us a bed that was £40 from amazon with a mattress that was WAY to small. We battled back and forth and the landlady only agreed to buy a dining table and tv stand as essentials to the flat. We pay a lot a month for this flat (being new Canary Wharf) and had another -£960 in buying furniture for our so called ‘FULLY FURNISHED FLAT. We paid stupid amount of a deposit, speaking with ALEXNEIL we was told ‘what more do we want’. They are unprofessional and unable to communicate. To this day (we moved in a few months ago) we are having trouble communicated with ALEXNEIL, they moved us in the a damp, mouldy not so perfect flat and I think I’m in the right to share this with you all. If you choose to go with this company please please do it with your eyes wide open, they’re scammers, they won’t communicate with you after they rob your money. This review was a long time coming.

TrustpilotIt took several weeks of calling and…
It took several weeks of calling and emailing to get a response to a fairly simple admin query. Everyone I spoke to was very polite, it just seemed that the department I was trying to get hold of had no desire to respond to me - leaving their colleagues endlessly calling and emailing on my behalf. I was also encouraged to leave 5 star reviews online in exchange for discounts on certain fees. While there were certain positive things I had to say, I don't think my experience merited five stars (and asking for positive reviews in exchange for discounts strikes me as incredibly morally questionable).

TrustpilotDisastrous service.
It's hard to comprehend the level of anger I feel towards the service we have been provided by this company. After having a serious break in, the company promised a new door to replace the broken one and ensure our safety. This was only installed 7 months later, after endless emails and false promises from Alex Neil. We have now got a damp problem which we have been struggling with for over 4 months. Not only is this a health hazard to us as occupiers, but its leading to deterioration of the flat's state. Despite our proactive approach of trying to get this sorted before the winter, we are still at square one, with the agency refusing to provide us with the landlord's contact number. We are now going to take this to the next step and contact the Environmental Health Council with the hope of our matters being taken seriously. One would think that the agency fee's that we pay would guarantee a satisfactory service, yet I am extremely disappointed to find out that this is not the case.

GoogleMy experience with Alex Neil has been average. They do the required amount of work as per any tenancy agency, and fix things as needed. Their fees however are complete extortion - they made us pay £500 to switch a tenant on the contract, and even charge £60 just to give a reference to another agency! I have lived in numerous residencies across London using different agents and I've never seen such high fees (the fact that there are fees for tenants at all is bad enough, but they have completely taken advantage of this). Given the extremity of the fees I would avoid going with them again and would suggest any future tenants to look at the fine print before signing anything (and make sure you have the fine print, as they only supplied this to me when I requested to see it). Overall leaving feeling completely ripped off.
Kailey · 14 January 2018
Agent replied
Dear Kailey Fuller-Jackson,
We understand that our "tenancy amendment" fees were incurred due to a clear change of the original Tenancy Agreement terms. Should this had not be required the £500 would not have been due. We are sorry you have felt the need to express your service fee matters however please be advised that all fees are clearly outlined within our Tenancy Agreements (with all contents at the same font size and colour!), on our website and clearly within our high street offices, fully in accordance with industry standards.

GooglePros:
- Solved most issues efficiently (washing machine broken, door handles loose, boiler trouble, etc.)
- Available and responded quickly to queries or requests.
- Pragmatic and flexible approach, showed willingness to consider us as people rather than just an anonymous customer.
- Unintrusive - always provided notice of visits, never bothered us about unnecessary aspects.
Cons:
- Large fees which were not made clear at the start.
- Mixed messages from different members of staff led to confusion.
- Did not always effectively follow up with third party contractors, required prompting or for us to fix the issues ourselves.

GoogleI have been letting a flat for the past year and a half with Alex Neil and just wanted to leave a review. They have been very helpful, always responding to emails and calls efficiently and liaising in a timely manner with contractors to help us get the best out of our flat. TrustpilotALEX NEIL IS THE WORST COMPANY …
I regret ever using alex Neil as an estate agent to getting my first property. They don't provide urgent management including safety issue like the front is not closing for mantainace issues. Issues dealt with 31 days after the initial request date. Making the the time in the propert within the 31 days unbearable and inheritable and even very unsafe (risk of burglars). Of which I recently had two Intruders, police was contacted as a result. Some urgent issues still not rectified even after 31 days of initial request. These issues where even escalated to the director of alex Neil and still not rectified, the director also failed to provide any acknowledgement nor any form of apology for the delay. I would not recommend alex Neil estate agent Surrey quays.

GoogleWe received incredible service from Tom and Calli. A very tricky flat sale situation, including the pulling out of several buyers - no fault of Alex Neil's - meant that we worked with them for a prolonged period over the course of 2022 and 2023. Throughout this time both were incredibly professional, organised, and efficient. From booking regular viewings to liaising with various parties and overseeing the final sale, they were both excellent at keeping us up-to-date and moving things along. Without their involvement the process would have been far more complex, frustrating, and drawn out, and I cannot thank them enough for their help!

GoogleWe could not have asked for a better service from Alex Neil. They were faultless from valuation to completion. The marketing of our flat was wonderful, they are knowledgeable and realistic about the property market. We got above asking price on our first viewing from safe buyers and proceeded straight to sale.
Calli at the Bow branch was amazing. From our first dealing with her at our viewing she was friendly and professional. Throughout the process of selling the flat she approached everything calmly and purposefully. She juggled queries and concerns between us, our buyers and solicitors perfectly. Her responses were always quick and helpful. The experience would have been a lot more stressful without her.

May I take this opportunity to say that you "Rebecca" (if I am not mistaken you managed to rent my flat in 2013 with a 3 years contract) really did a great job in finding the perfect tennats for my situation. And Mr. Setter, from the management department, has been doing and still is an impressive job regarding the management of my flat. I had dealings with Gilbert many years ago when I was first looking for a property to rent. Now as a homeowner and looking to add to my portfolio, I am please to say that using Gilbert again is a welcome relief. Very rare to see an Estate Agent still with the same company, and Alex Neil is definately the best there is.

The Trusted Agent TenantAdequate
The people I have dealt with at Alex Neil were all very nice. However, as an organisation, it is not there to represent the interests of tenants. It took about five months to get an external sliding door fixed. They tried to show buyers round the flat four months before the end of the tenancy when the landlord decided to sell, and I had to remind them of my legal right to quiet enjoyment. And now I am being forced to pay Alex Neil for a landlord reference for my next flat. I have never been charged for a landlord reference before, and I think to charge for this is somewhat cheeky given the other fees we have paid Alex Neil.

Dear Anon Y,
I was very sad to read your comments as I believe at all times my staff members have dealt with your matters as promptly as they could. I understand that the door handle was replaced after several months, due to the matter being referred to the block Managing Agents (as it was a warrantee matter relating to the block, for which you were fully aware). In regards to a Landlord reference, I understand this has now been done Free Of Charge. I hope this confirms all matters and I thank you for being a previous tenant.
