Probably a good company to work with if you’re a landlord who doesn’t care about the tenants. We lived in liberty grove in two separate flats that were rented by redkey, both had mould. The first in which all of our furniture was ruined. We were made to feel that this was our fault. we regularly vented the flats and treated the mould on a weekly basis, which was in both of the bedrooms and the living room, particularly the carpet. We were told that this wasn’t an issue in liberty grove.. however having spoken to a number of neighbours, we have come to learn this IS an issue, and redkey are ignoring it by renting the properties out immediately a tenant moves out. And even taking out of their deposits to paint over the mould. Then upon bringing up our issue of being charged for the mould, we were accused of using another tenants photos, instead of having a compassionate response to what we had been dealing with. Also take a lot more money from your deposit than necessary, any opportunity to make money even if it’s taking it from hard working people I can assure you they won’t hesitate to do so. Will never rent with redkey again, and will definitely be advising everyone I know not to.

LONG REVIEW BUT PLEASE READ TO AVOID STRESS After the experience me and my girlfriend have had with Red Key, they are lucky to receive 1 star but this is the only option. After viewing a property at the end of the April, and agreeing to start the process of renting, we were asked to write review for this agency. We agreed as it seemed to be a quick process as Kath said we were able to move in ASAP and to us, as first time renters, seemed like brilliant service. We were told to pay £200 to take the property off the market, and that would mean after referencing etc, we would be able to rent the house. However, this changed drastically over the period of 3/4 weeks. Our first move in date was set to 7th of May, however this was changed due to the current tennants wanting more time to move out, which we understood that this was not the agency's fault. However, the issue here was that we were only given a couple days notice and we were never contacted directly to be informed. Instead, it was us ringing the estate agent about other issues to only be told our move in date had changed to the 16th. A few days before the new move in date, my girlfriend went to measure different areas of the house and this was so we were able to order furniture which the estate agent was well aware, and again, the process still seemed to be going well. My girlfriend and Kath spoke about us coming to the office on the 16th to sign our contracts, she was going to show us how to pay our deposit/bond at the office online and to pick up our keys. However, on the 16th, 2 hours before we were supposed to pick up the keys, we were yet to hear from Red Key and we again rang to see what time we could come to the office to pick up our keys. We were met with the response that our move in day had been delayed until the end of the month although this was the first I heard. We explained that we had driven from Swansea with 2 cars worth of belongings, sofas, bedframe. We advised that we were having wifi and home insurance all being delivered to the new address which all had to be cancelled and we were very fortunate that we had somewhere to stay that evening. We received a phone call one hour later (one hour before we were meant to pick up our keys) to say that the landlord had changed their mind to rent the house out and that she wanted 'time out' to decide what she wanted to do with the house. Obviously, we were very upset about this and not once did Red Key apologise for this. We called them back and asked if we could get our £200 back that we paid to take it off the market and the reply we received was "well it's not our fault" and after the woman on the phone spoke to her manager she said "on this occassion, we will make an exception". A few hours later, my girlfriend's sister called Red Key to view the same property and she was told that was fine but it wouldn't be available to live until the end of May but they said they'd put her name down and ring when she could view! Attempting to get our £200 refunded was very difficult. We were promised on thursday that it would be processed within 2 working days and be in our account by monday which didn't happen. We then rang up again on Monday to be told that we wouldn't be receiving this money, even though i had given my bank details and been assured we would receive it. After being put on hold and various employees speaking to someone else in their office, our money was processed and arrived on the Tuesday. Due to everything that has happened, the lack of communication and the stress Red Key have caused us in renting our first home together, I would never recommend this estate agent to anyone. Our current estate agency have gone above and beyond and shown us how a proper agency should act on behalf of its tennants.

Josh · 31 July 2019 · Red Key Property Services Newport

Agent replied

Hi Josh. We have investigated this thoroughly and spoken with you also. Unfortunately, as we have informed you, no Tenancy Agreement was signed and no references sought in order for you to be able to secure the property and move in. Any move-in dates discussed were simply estimates. As the Landlord decided to take a break from letting out the property, as she is entitled to do, we removed it from the market until a firm decision was made. In the meantime, we record any interested tenants so that we can contact them later if the property were to become available. Your £200 holding deposit was indeed refunded in good time. We are disappointed in this review which does not accurately reflect the circumstances in which you didn't understand the process explained to you. We are sorry you were disappointed not to move in as you hoped, but we feel this review is unfair.

I just wanted to start with the fact that I was a first time tenant and was quite nervous renting for the first time. However, Jess Pritchard at Red Key treated me with upmost respect and guided me through, step by step, every single detail big or small. Jess went above and beyond to make sure that I was happy and felt comfortable with the transition with moving into my flat. I’m now moving into my flat feeling so excited and assured. That’s all down to the work that Jess and the team have put into making this go as smoothly as possible for me. So I can’t thank you enough for everything, Izzy x

Never try. They will take all money from your deposit even for what was broken before you move, even you left the house clean, you painted the walls and you washed carpets . If you choice them be carefull with photos that they make because some of them are not the same like reality.

I called to see if I could view a flat and thankfully I was able to that same afternoon, the flat was amazing and they were super helpful and really worked on doing the references quickly for me and I was able to move into the flat within a week. The staff are just so friendly and I'm really thankful they could be so quick at securing the place for me.

I moved in to my property with red key 2 and a half years ago and within that period had about 3 floods which were due to there maintance issues and were never fixed where I had personal damages. I moved out of my flat last week to be told by Jess that my deposit would be paid into by the end of the day. I kept checking but nothing had been put in. The next day I spoke to Chantelle on the phone who advises she needed to send over some deductions where she tried deducting £150 out of my deposit. I obviously told her this was wrong and I’d left that flat in an amazing state when I left, since then Chantelle has made more deductions trying to deduct £350 out of my deposit even though the damages she is trying to deduct for were there when I moved in and the inventory report dose not reflect the check out report. I have asked for a break down of what she is exactly trying to claim for which once again she has refused to deliver. She’s rude on the phone and always try’s to fob me off. Now I half to go to the TDS with all my evidence to get my deposit back which is very stressful for me as one of the reasons I moved out of the flat was because of my mental health. I would defiantly think twice if you are thinking of renting off red key property. None of there staff seem to know what they are doing and very unprofessional.

Nadia · 29 July 2019 · Red Key Property Services Newport

Agent replied

We are sorry that you feel you have not had a professional service in respect of the end of your tenancy. As with all tenancies an inventory was taken at the start of the tenancy and a check out conducted at the end of the tenancy and a list of differences was provided which would attract proposed deductions for putting the property back to the same state as when it was rented to you. The deposit negotiations are still live and we have offered to release the undisputed sums to you immediately whilst still holding the disputed amount. As is the law all deposits are protected with an independent scheme for your protection and therefore if an agreement cannot be reached the disputed balance will be sent to the TDS for them to independently adjudicate on how to disperse the deposit. We recommend liaising with the branch to finalise the issue in a professional manner.

Just completed our purchase with RedKey. Chantelle and Samantha are great ( others less helpful hence the 4 star rating ) and they are a real asset to the team. Sam updated us on a regular basis which was fantastic and offered help when needed. We decided to stay with RedKey as Landlords so they can manage the property - this is due to the professional service which we received from Sam. Thank you !
