Not all estate agents are the same. JDW are in a league of their own.

JD Wood are professional, but they go much further than just that. From the first appraisal they gave us confidence, no 'flannel 'or 'blarney. JDW made arrangements professionally and kept us in touch, always gave us feedback, they did everything you should take for granted, but so often get let down on, it's how they work. The staff we met were 'long-termers', they probably stayed for a reason, and their longevity meant they were really experienced. We were looked after by two offices and we didn't notice until Adrian mentioned he was from Parsons Green office, whilst our house was in Fulham and we'd met people from that local office. That seamlessness was important. I'd telephone for an update, whether Fulham or Parsons Green, if the person I needed wasn't there whoever else answered the phone knew our property, knew the current status, and was completely informed. Once more this is not the norm in our experience. Whilst Adrian had the buyer for us and helped this go through smoothly it is important to know that everyone we spoke to was enormously helpful and it was clearly a team effort. Everything was super professional right through exchange of contracts and leading up to completion, we were extremely happy we had gone with JDW. They're not the cheapest, but you get what you pay for and with the biggest transactions most of us do in our lives you can easily be 'penny wise, pound foolish'. We certainly had value for money. Then...... disaster strikes..... and that's where 'going a step further' than normal stunned me. We're moving, the furniture has gone in the van, and a leak springs downstairs, dripping through the ceiling. It's Thursday, we complete on Monday (legally bound to!) I called with the bad news. A calm and collected response; "Our letting team have people who do maintenance, let's see what we can do". Enter Stephen from the Fulham office (who is head of sales, actually, not lettings, but this is clearly a real 'team business'). He told me "Don't worry, I've got a guy who's going to go round, he's good, I know him, we'll sort it out". Frankly I've heard that sort of thing too many times , I was nervous. How wrong was I. The plumber did what was needed, by Saturday everything was fixed, dried out, and someone was round sanding the area of new plaster on the ceiling. I didn't lift a finger, it was all organised by JDWood. Photos of the work were sent to the new owners who were graciously happy. Now, that's going the extra distance. And we still had two days breathing space. You don't choose an estate agent because they can fix a leak. But it just shows what I mean. Up to that point they'd been the most professional folk I'd dealt with, and a really well organised team that played as a team. But then they created a new league and leapt into it. All completed well, the new owners got in and were happy. A nightmare turned into a nothing (but gratitude). JD Wood made it all happen. They went the extra mile or league or whatever it needed. Not just Adrian and Stephen, but everyone there. You will not be disappointed by JD Wood, you will be delighted. All estate agents are not the same, and JDW are the best.

I spent nearly three months searching for the right property in West London, and it turned out to be a far more complicated process than I had expected. With all the recent changes in the rental market and the uncertainty surrounding the Renters’ Rights reforms, I encountered a number of unexpected issues from landlords during the application process. Despite having around 25 years of renting experience, an excellent rental history and never having paid my rent late, I somehow ended up going through three separate reference checks within just five weeks! Three tenancy applications fell through at a very late stage for different reasons, including landlords changing their position on guarantors or not being entirely familiar with their responsibilities in the UK rental market. Unfortunately, in some cases the other letting agents did not communicate the circumstances clearly enough between landlord and tenant, which made an already stressful process even more frustrating. That experience changed completely when we met Thomas Galvin from John D Wood. Tom showed us the property, understood our situation immediately and, most importantly, communicated everything clearly and properly with the landlord from the outset. He managed the process extremely well and ultimately helped us secure a fantastic great sized 3 bed 3 baths property in the Knightsbridge area. I sincerely appreciate everything Tom did for us. He is genuinely friendly, responsive and professional, and he continued helping well beyond simply agreeing the tenancy. Everything from the paperwork to key cutting, furniture deliveries and the practical arrangements before moving in was handled smoothly and efficiently. Having rented through many of the major estate agencies across Prime Central London over the past 25 years, I can confidently say that this has been one of the smoothest and most professionally handled experiences I have had. A huge thank you to Tom and the team at John D Wood. Excellent service from beginning to end, and I would highly recommend Thomas Galvin to anyone looking to rent in Prime London.

I’ve rented in London for the past three years and James Mander is, by far, the best property manager I’ve had. With previous managers, even simple issues took months to resolve despite multiple emails and reminders; nothing seemed to get followed up. Since James took over, everything has changed. He coordinates promptly with the landlord, follows through with contractors, and ensures repairs are completed quickly and properly. I personally visited my friend several times while she was living in a John D Wood-managed property on Courtfield Road, and I personally witnessed mice inside the flat, including in the living areas. This was particularly concerning as she was living there with her young child. I also saw first-hand how difficult it was for her to get these issues addressed. I personally tried calling the South Kensington branch on her behalf over several days, but repeatedly received no answer. When she eventually managed to get through, their response was dismissive, lacking in understanding and far from helpful. The mice were not the only issue. She also had ongoing problems with her boiler, meaning she could not properly use her shower. Responses and solutions took an unreasonable amount of time, and she was repeatedly left chasing them for basic answers and repairs. What I found particularly unacceptable was that, despite all these unresolved issues, they still had the audacity to increase her rent. Having personally witnessed the conditions and the way she was treated, I found the whole situation extremely frustrating and unacceptable. The way a single mother with a young child was treated while dealing with basic living and maintenance issues should, in my opinion, be a major red flag for anyone considering using John D Wood’s services. It certainly would be for me.

Had an absolutely appalling experience with Ben the Head of Lettings and Molly the negotiator. We were misled and coerced towards making a certain offer. Even though an offer mad made there were lies and a complete lack of transparency in the way our offer was handled. The lies continued while trying to justify their position. A subject access request has been raised to prove their lies and a formal complaint is being made with progression to the ombudsman. Unfortunately we’re still left in the detrimental position without the property, with no responsibility or accountability being accepted by the agents. Take extreme care when dealing with lettings in this office.

I enquired about vacant property management and initially received a couple of slow responses from Karen confirming they could provide the service. However, when I tried to move forward, my calls and emails were repeatedly ignored. I was constantly told she was in meetings or on another call and would get back to me, but she never did. I even asked to be directed to someone else if she couldn’t assist, and still received no response. Extremely unprofessional and disappointing.

Within 10 days of the house going on the market with 7 offers in over the asking price, we went to a full and final offer stage, and choosing a private cash buyer were able to complete in 5 weeks of the house launch, with an excellent brochure and thoughtful targeted marketing, thanks to Andrew Topping whose expert advice we were happy to follow. It was an extremely painless process, made even more so by the expertise offered. The fee was very well earned. Maybe the right house at the right time, I don't know, but, like Napoleon I'd choose a lucky realtor over one who wasn't.
