This agency prioritises their landlords over their tenants. The only good thing they give their tenants is the report maintenance system. Apart from that, the staff will not see its tenants as actual people, discriminate against students with condescending attitudes, always take the side of landlords. I would advise any future students or young professionals to avoid letting from this company. After we were told to leave the property due to the landlords (the landlords on the other hand were the most lovely people) wanting to sell the property, the agents gave us very little information as to why this decision occurred and used the opportunity to promote their other letting properties instead of supporting the tenants. We were “promised” priority in rent applications and viewings which essentially meant nothing due to their poor communication between their own management team. And of course, like many letting companies - will make the most use of your deposit. If you are to pursue a property with high deposit, I advise not - they will rinse 90% of it and claim it as damages or cleaning despite it being their own obligation. Love the landlords, very much dislike the agents and company.

Yasser and all the team were absolutely amazing in selling my dads flat for me. They all worked very hard and kept me up to date with everything that was happening. Reference check admin fee outrage

I asked openrent to reference check one of DJ Alexander’s tenants at the Edinburgh branch. They ignored this request, and when I asked the tenant to makes enquiries with his letting agent about what was holding things up, they informed him that he would have to pay a £30 admin fee to DJ Alexander before they would release any information about the tenant. Compete ignorance and taking advantage of a tenant in a comprisable situation!!

I wouldn't use DJ Alexander as a tenant or a Landlord unless there were no other options. Some examples: they tried to raise our rent claiming our landlord asked them to...guess what the landlord was my flatmates Grandma and she knew NOTHING about them trying to raise the rent, think we all know where that money was going. Their own pockets. I have submitted them as a reference (big mistake, should have just put the owner of the flat) They have just emailed to tell me that there is a £30 charge for them to give me a reference, which is just crazy. They respond with a claim that there is nothing illegal about the fee, I think this is for themselves to try to justify charging people for a few words. Guess that's what you get for being a good tenant and customer for 2 years with DJ Alexander. I also offered a solution for the "admin" fee for the reference but they weren't willing to allow me to forward the email they received to our landlord which I have contact with through my ex-flatmate. All in all, in the time it took for our back and forth via email, they could have just done the reference. EDIT- no I wouldn't like to look into any queries, I've queried enough...

As someone who lets properties through this agency, I feel greatly assured to have consistent presences whom I can trust and deal with directly. Caroline Connelly has held her Property Manager position for years with aplomb! The transition from Fineholm to DJ Alexander was rather fraught at first (especially with the Edinburgh maintenance department), but now the fast staff turnover has settled, things are working out well and I am happy to stay with them, so long as we continue along these lines.

Wonderful service from the Edinburgh…

Wonderful service from the Edinburgh Lettings team. However, when it come to offer stage, everything was slightly mismatched and somewhat confusing for me as the person enquiring and wanting to live in the property. My offer was put forward despite being told we should wait for a document from my solicitor, being told my offer was fine and it was being sent over. I was then told it was looking like no to that property as the landlord had a lot of questions? I was not told what these questions were and absolutely no correspondence since. I can’t say my experience with the DJ Alexander Edinburgh Lettings team has been pleasant at all.
