Terrible experience- do not touch

Just purchased a house where the seller used Gilson Gray. Terrible experience with unnecessary delays that ended costing us over £1,000 in extra costs. Not to mention the added stress and anxiety due to the uncertainty that they created. I would not recommend and would actively advise anyone to avoid this company if they can. We will be writing to the Law Society of Scotland to complain as feel their levels of competence and professionalism fell well short of minimum expectations.

Professional and helpful all the way

It was a very long 50 weeks from agreed sale to completion but Sarah and her team continued to be professional and helpful from start to finish. It was great to be able to deal directly with Sarah or Danielle rather than always online and one of her team always got back to me if I was unable to speak to them at the time and had to leave a message. I would definitely recommend them or use them again myself in the future.

DO NOT USE GILSON GRAY!They are absolutely awful and I would not recommend them to anyone!!We were recommended them through Sequence and we naively decided to use them as they were cheap and it was the worst mistake we ever made!!They were absolutely awful at communicating throughout the entire process, they are online based so you cannot visit them! They never answer the phone and hardly responded to emails. We had an offer accepted to sell our property at the end of January and we put in an offer on a house at the start of May and we only just moved this week. The whole process took 9 months!They dragged their feet with everything, they hardly responded to emails and whenever I tried to ring my conveyancers direct dial or the main line, they never picked up.My conveyancer used to take days and sometimes weeks to reply and a lot of the time, she shifted the blame onto ourselves when we always provided our documents in good time!We ended up having to go through our estate agents to complain about the service that Gilson Grey were providing to hurry them along after over six months of waiting!We ended up getting more information through our estate agents in the last few months than we did from Gilson Grey for the entire process.We ended up getting emails for a few weeks from the Operations Manager after a few weeks then she went radio silent again.They started communicating and ringing us the last week before completion but I really wish that they did that from the very start, as it caused us both a massive amount of stress from the whole process.It has completely put me off going through this again anytime soon so I would stay well clear of using their services!

Trustworthy, Prompt and Reliable

Blown away by Caitlin Houliston and Nuria Seron. Whilst buying my new-build there were plenty of ups and downs and a lot of stresses. Caitlin was utterly wonderful, no issue seemed too stressful or too troublesome for her and even when I finally received my date of entry, she handed me over to colleague Nuria as she was going on annual leave. Nuria was phenomenal and incredibly prompt with all correspondence even when there were last-minute mistakes made by the builder’s solicitor. I would 100% recommend Gilson Gray and can definitely say I’m sticking with them for life, we all need a trustworthy solicitor and these folks are definitely it.

Don’t go near Gilson Gray if you want customer service and professional help. They seem committed to make your house purchase/sale as stressful as possible. It is almost like they enjoy bringing sales and purchases to the point of collapse.

Absolutely awful

Absolutely awful. We were recommended Gilson Gray by our mortgage broker and as first time buyers we naively thought that we would not be recommended them if they were no good.... biggest mistake. From the moment we began proceedings with them it was like drawing blood from a stone when trying to get information from our allocated solicitor. We had to do a lot of the chasing from various places on behalf of our solicitor as we were fed up of waiting for her and our seller was threatening to pull out. We were advised that due to us not being in a chain it should have taken only 3 months to complete, it took a little over 5 months. A few days before we were due to complete our solicitor contacted us via email to say we had not signed the deeds and could complete after all. As first time buyers we signed everything we were asked to sign and sent of via recorded delivery months before. We checked our emails three times just to make sure we hadn't made a mistake, the deeds had definitely never been emailed to us. This made even more of a delay. It wasn't until our solicitor had gone on annual leave for a week and our case passed to someone else to cover that everything seemed to be pushed through and we completed within that week. Even then they tried to overcharge us. I am aware that buying a house is stressful anyway, but having Gilson Gray handle our house purchase has been the most stressful experience and biggest mistake we could have made. We most definitely will not be recommending them or using them ever again.

Very pleased with the service. They were very professional and helpful, they were patient with me as I kept chasing them up and asking them to chase the buyers solicitors due to delays from them. They did what they could to help and speed things up. Good communication from them and happy to answer any questions and explain things. Fees were not overpriced. These solicitors are appalling do not go anywhere near them. They don't know what a phone is as they don't answer them! I couldn't believe how many times I asked about completion date despite the rest of the chain being ready. Its like banging your head against a brick wall. Don't put yourself through the stress!!
