Awful experience with Gilson Gray, looking for assistance with eviction during the moratorium. With GG we were poorly advised, if given any information at all, invoices were badly managed and costs quickly spiralled. When my tenant attended GG's office, unannounced, (tenant was: damaging property, fighting with neighbours, generating complaints, contravening tenancy agreement, rent arrears £1,000s) GG spent 18 mins providing her comfort & advice, which I was not happy about and, even less so when presented with the bill for time GG chose to spend with the tenant. In my opinion, GG are far more interested in making money, than assisting their clients and I would advise landlords in a similar position to avoid engaging this company. After significant expenditure, much upset and little progress, we decided to go no further with GG. We joined a landlords association and, with their support & guidance, took the eviction process into our own hands. I would recommend investigating this route to any landlord seeking to evict.

TrustpilotThe worst level of communication
We were required to use Gilson Gray due to initially selling a house through Yopa, and you are required to use that firm. We didn’t end up selling through Yopa so we were able to change solicitors thankfully as we had a diabolical service from Gilson Gray. Mostly relating to communication. We could never get hold of them by phone, email, or when we visited the offices. They were either closed when we visited, or the one time there were people there, the person on reception said she didn’t work there and was just covering for a while but had all of our personal documents. This felt like a breach of confidentiality. Any time we had a query or something needing an action, we’d get an automatic email saying they’d reply within 48 hours. Even small requests. When we complained about this because we were attempting to have a dialogue about specific issues, a team manager responded with this; “ We treat emails the same way as we treat post in that they are dealt with in date order to make it fair on all of our clients.” This feels incredibly naive and nonsensical, because what is the purpose of email if it’s treated like post? You set up a dialogue via email as a conversation, so we were actually waiting a week in between replies just about things like what to sign, or when something might happen. It was so frustrating and I’ve never heard anybody say emails are treated like post in terms of time frames and order. We moved on to some great solicitors and even the delays we had with Gilson Gray before getting to a sale really worried us for potential delays they would have caused. From reading other experiences we could see others faced delays and even cancelled exchange and completion dates.

Please seriously consider finding an alternative Solicitor, regardless of your Estate Agent or broker recommendation. They cause constant hold up's, mismanage cases, offload the work to inexperienced paralegals, change the goalposts and are terrible to make contact with/reply to urgent queries (even when the Estate Agent complains to one of their managers). Their delays made me ill and nearly lost me my buyer.

I would not use this company again. I was pushed towards them by my estate agent ( back hander bung probably) They were a lot more expensive than other quotes I'd had for conveyancing but trusted my agent. I was given a full breakdown of fees including vat before they started. This then increased by £132 just before completion. They also got the sale price wrong on the paperwork by £500 which had to be corrected and delayed the process. You will also struggle to speak to anyone as they don't answer the phone.Do yourself a favour and look at all the reviews. I would advise against this company

Before using Gilson Gray, look carefully at the reviews. Half one star, half 5 stars. Odd. This was exactly my experience..... The first part of my (protracted) property sale was abysmal due to many reasons already given in other reviews. The second part was completely different (different personnel) with good communication and expertise from the excellent Joanne - a huge asset to that Company. It seems it could be a lottery.
