Elusive, Lamentable, Arrogant, Non-existent customer services.

I am not considering buying a home from Elan and after my current experience of trying to engage with them, I’m highly unlikely to in the future. My property borders their building site to the rear and to their land, a designated wildlife area, to the side. I won’t bore anyone with the details but after months of emails, they sent landscaping contractors to remove conifers that are blocking light in my house. They were about to start work today when they received a call telling them that Elan had changed their mind. Their head office number is an 0845 number, so expensive to call. Their customer service number has a recorded message telling people to email instead. The end of the message says that they will reply within 10 working days. When I email, a reply comes from a no reply account confirming 10 working day response. They also provide an emergency number. When you ring this number, there is a recorded message telling the caller to email and they will reply in 10 working days. When I rang the only number I could find, the temp sales person told me that she had been told to tell me that I have to deal with customer services, which I would, if I could actually speak to a human being. She gave me the number for the site manager who knew nothing. The only number for head office is the 0845 number. The quantity surveyor who stopped the work refused point blank to speak to me. So, if you are going to buy a home from this company, you might want to consider how likely it is that you are going to be able to get faults etc. acknowledged, let alone corrected because this is the only method of communication that will be available to you, so good luck!28/2/23 - My jaw has just hit the floor after reading Elan’s response! I was happy with the trees being removed and have never expressed otherwise. There was absolutely NO ‘mutual agreement’ to either stop work or to reduce the height to 2 metres, which is still above my window. When the landscapers arrived this morning, I was advised that Joe Teall, Elan’s quantity surveyor has said that they had to cut to 2 metres. I would love to discuss the matter further with you.

I have had a very good experience…

I have had a very good experience dealing with Johnathan in greenside view. He has really gone extra miles helping me from the begin I reserved the property to the point I am now ready to complete. Few issue with my sale and Jonathan was there to reassure me that my plot will be reserved for me until I get it sorted. He kept me updated with all progress. And I am grateful. I hope the after sale experience will be as good as this. I will be moving in my new home in few days. I am keeping 1 star to see how the experience is like once I move in. Thank you

We looked at a property at Redwood Gardens. Although we did not proceed to a purchase the level of service we received for the sales executive named Shirley was exceptional. Nothing was too much trouble for her, she answered every question from 4 members of the family and we ended up talking after the official close of business for the day. If you are going to visit the development, make sure you ask to speak to Shirley - she is exceptional.

Thankyou Ken, you are a credit to Elan Homes...

I first enquired back in January 2022 when I put what I thought would be my forever home on the market & was going through a breakup after 7years. I met with Ken from Elan Homes, Balmoral Gardens who has been with me every step of the way. Ken has been amazing throughout the whole process from enquiring to reserving the plot to making the purchase. He has been so helpful and reassuring. Ken made what was a sad and very stressful situation, the easiest and I will be forever grateful. Ken was always updating me and was always available at the end of the phone/email. I reserved the plot I wanted not long after I enquired and then had a nightmare with having to change Solicitors right before exchange (this was through no fault of Elans!) but Ken came to the rescue and recommended a Solicitor, and everything was just brilliant. I finally completed this week and picked up my keys to my new build! I will be in before Christmas and I cannot wait for a fresh start! None of this would have been possible without the brilliant team at Elan Homes, Balmoral Gardens, especially Ken - who even took the time to help me pick out my bathroom tiles and kitchen! The worst housebuilder on the market - avoid

The worst housebuilder - I wonder how many reviews on here are genuine. Since buying the show home at Culcheth Green, I have experienced:• All three showers leaking, cascading water, into my kitchen and lounge, dangerously close to electrics • En-suite shower flooding into my bedroom, lifting my bedroom carpet in places, a site manager who asked if I could avoid using it, instead of fixing it; cracked toilet and sink • Multiple kitchen and hall tiles cracking • A boiler that didn’t work for throughout winter • Loose roof tiles which they are refusing to fix • A kitchen that I had to have adjusted as the doors weren’t aligned and again, Elan refused to fix this • A driveway with holes in from the sales office fencing, despite all neighbours having driveways re-laid at the end of the build, Elan left my home out of this, until I complained• A green space that was a paddock before Elan used it to dump their rubble on, and then proceeded to try to grow grass and meadow flowers through this; a pond that has never been built properly, yet we are all being charged for maintenance• Green space to the front of the development that one resident has decided to take-over and put whatever he wants on there, again we are being charged for maintenance of this space, despite complaints • Window casings that come off in the slightest breeze and I need to put back almost weekly Buy with Elan at your peril.To respond to Elan Homes' comments below, the majority of the issues listed occurred within weeks of moving in, therefore, were under Elan's 2-year warranty agreement Anyone buying a former showhome, paying the same or more for their property, should expect the same standard as any other home. When things go wrong after moving in, such as showers leaking, there is no excuse not to fix these, regardless of it being a show home. Interesting also that you say that the POS is being handed over to the management company, as we've all received a management company bill for the past 3 years. I've called your so-called customer care line multiple times and am still awaiting a response.
