Lisa was excellent

I enquired about purchasing a property in the Jordanhill development. Lisa was the sales consultant who I dealt with and I cannot fault her service. I had 2 appointments with her, the first to see the show flat, then the second was to go onto the building site and see the property I was interested in reserving. Lisa was extremely competent and answered all my questions, making sure to double check anything she wasn't 100% certain about. Nothing was an inconvenience and I really felt like she had my best interests in mind at all times. Ultimately I decided not to go with reserving a property with Cala but that's for other reasons. Would I buy a Cala home again? Not if it was the last house standing.

We purchased a Cala home completing in July 2023. During the sales process the sales team at Shopwyke Lakes initially went above and beyond. We found a house with a great floor plan, ample space, with off street parking and a garage. We managed to secure a good deal with multiple incentives, we just had to complete on our two properties to proceed. Unfortunately due to unavoidable delays with a previous help to buy loan on one of our properties this was delayed by several months after our new home was deemed completed. Several times during this delay we were told by the Cala sales team that there was the possibility of them pulling out off the sale if we delayed any further. This was extremely stressful as we tried to co-ordinate 3 solicitors and navigate the unavoidable delays from the help to buy loan. To note, we were unable to complete until 3 months after the house was finished, and yet the sale proceeded. Nevertheless we completed in July 2023 and moved into our 'dream home'. On a previous site visit we noted that the painting touch ups had been done in a sightly different colour following a formula change by the paint company, resulting in multiple streaked paint areas in all rooms. We were assured that this would be resolved prior to moving in. It was not. Having been left with no option but to move all our furniture in we then had to accommodate the painters returning to repaint the walls. Credit to Cala at this point, they provided us with a £500 John Lewis voucher as a way of apology; unfortunately we still had to clean furniture and floors after no dust sheets were used during the repaint resulting in fine paint spatter. Following this we used the services of a home snagging company to ensure that we were not missing any major snagging issues. This highlighted generic internal snagging issues that the site team were very prompt in fixing. Tom was extremely helpful and kept in contact to ensure that all our internal snagging was fixed in a timely manner. During this snagging report it was noted by the surveyor that there were multiple areas of washed our mortar across all elevations of the house. It was at this point that we highlighted this concerning finding to Cala. They were adamant that there were no concerns with the mortar on the Shopwyke Lakes development (despite previous houses needing a full repoint following seriously flawed mortar results) and they advised us that if we were concerned we should pay for our own surveyor and conduct out own mortar test, which we did. In excess of £1000 later we were presented with results and a surveyors report saying that the two tests they had taken showed significantly poor cement to sand ratios, falling considerably under the NHBC guidelines with the advice that a full repoint of the house is needed. We had multiple areas of crumbling mortar and exposed wall ties which continue to degrade. Again presenting these results to Cala they maintained that there are no concerns with the mortar and they will address the localised 'workmanship' issues. I am told that mortar tests Cala have taken are all within limits - yet I am not allowed to see these results. The subcontractor that Cala assigned to deal with the 'workmanship' issues attended our house and also agreed that a full repoint was necessary to ensure that further issues with the mortar are prevented. Even without these factors the crumbling, cracked mortar and the fact that it can be brushed away with your finger nail indicates something has gone seriously wrong somewhere. So now we have two independent surveyors, Cala's own subcontracted brickmason and seriously flawed mortar results all advising that there are significant mortar consistency issues, yet Cala are adamant they are not following the advice to repoint and continue to deny the presence of a mortar problem. Instead of now enjoying my new home I am left resenting it, the issues it has caused me and the issues I know I will face in the coming years. Would I buy a Cala home again? Not if it was the last house standing. Which it won't be, because the mortar wouldn't stand the test of time.

Amazing customer service - Marius, Eric, Sandra and Alexandra

It has been two years since I have been with Cala. I bought the property at Arlesey Grange, Bedfordshire in 2021. I have been quite happy with the quality and the customer service provided. At times, it was just a matter with being patient but over some time you build that trust with the developer that the issues raised will be fixed. Marius and Eric visited today to replace my garage door, fix a few cracks, nail pops and other minor issues. Unlike my previous experiences with other developers, Marius and Eric quietly did their job and I did not even had to monitor anything. They even went above and beyond and scanned the entire place for any additional issues and fixed it. That's called customer service. Very poor workmanship throughout. Over 250 issues identified on professional snagging report. A year on and major issues have been dealt with but the finish throughout the property is terrible it looks like a DIY job not the work of an experienced home builder, things such as tiling, dry wall and painting are awful.

Before I begin my review, I aim to ensure fairness by providing evidence. While opinions may vary, images unambiguously illustrate the workmanship quality I have highlighted at calahomesexposed (dot) com.Over the past two years, I've encountered an unprecedented level of unprofessionalism, incompetence, and poor workmanship. This issue is systemic, affecting every layer of the Cala ecosystem, from onsite teams and management to contractors and even director/senior levels, a clear signal that significant changes are necessary.Despite the expected minor issues with new builds, our challenges over these years stem from Cala's unacceptable and unethical business practices. The company advertises "exceptional homes and 5-star service come as standard" on their website. Unfortunately, our experience, along with that of the 17% of customers who have left reviews, contradicts this claim.We have faced a multitude of problems, including ceiling leaks; widespread property damage; poor finishes; building practices out of tolerance; warped walls; missing drains; incorrect door frames; a poorly laid, sinking driveway; and issues with flooring, windows, fencing, doors, and kitchens, plus roof and gutter complications, heating, alarm, and floorboard/structural defects. Added to this are missed appointments, discontinued items, and unprofessional contractors.Dealing with Cala's management team has been particularly frustrating. Even with undeniable issues, we often hear, "Management has decided not to proceed with their responsibility to fix the issue."Regrettably, sharing our negative experience is necessary to offer a truthful and fair reflection of our situation. Like most negative reviews, it is the accumulation of unresolved issues that leads to ill feelings. Disgraceful aftersales customer service

Having now raised my complaints about sunken driveway, roofing issues, poor drainage, disgraceful common land areas and several other issues to CEO level, via recorded delivery letter dated 29 January 2024, still waiting for reply. Disgusting! Promise the earth in their sales literature and sales office but as soon as they have your money, they don't care. Don't believe a word they say!!Update 8 March 2024Further to above, have now received email from cala customer service director to say that they are still refusing to sort my sunken driveway, even though I have proven it was faulty workmanship by them in the first place. They have used the non independent NHBC visit to back up their decision. Who pays NHBC...oh the building companies of course....so certainly not a independent source for the homeowner. Cala, you are not a 5 star customer service company. I hold by my 1 star given the various major issues since moving including flooding up to my foundations due to non existent drainage, roof trusses coming through bedroom ceiling, garage door not fitted properly, leak from downstairs loo due to bad plumbing, doors and windows not draught proof, roof slates not correctly installed, kitchen units not fixed to walls properly, faulty electrics, squint internal walls, blown plaster, not to mention the wasteland of common areas which are a disgrace.Oh, and if you dare to complain too much and not just keep quiet and suck it up, they then blacklist you and use every dirty trick to refuse to sort things eg my driveway, though they know perfectly well that your neighbour's drive has also sunk in exactly the same place but they have been deemed to not have complained too much or gone to the NHBC so got their one fixed, without hassle ( not my lovely neighbours fault)And don't get me started on the lies that are blatantly told by sales team, site management etc. My house type dropped in price 7 weeks after moving in by £15k. Was told basically "tough", told by site manager that the 2 inch gap at my garage door was needed for ventilation and that the drain with my rear garden was connected properly when it was actually completely unconnected.Worst experience ever!!

From day 1 on seeing our desired new home, David & Dianne at Cala Finchampstead have gone above and beyond with their customer service. We never ever felt pressure to buy, but there was no need the houses speak for themselves. Excellent quality homes with lovely touches that others do not include. We had a card and gifts waiting on the day we moved in, with a towel in the downstairs toilet and milk in the fridge along with a selection of tea bsgs and coffees with 2 nice Cala mugs. We often used to pop by and sit outside the house , one day we got out and peered into the lounge, we noticed some mould in the walls, probably due to being shut up and the rain. We wrote to David and had a swift reply saying not to worry the team will be instructed to look in and treat the areas. This they did without any hesitation. David then took it on himself to check regularly and give us mould updates on a weekly basis even naming himself Mould specialist 😂 This was so reassuring. After we moved in we were asked to report any snagging which has been attended too almost immediately and to be honest there were very few. Matt the site manager was tasked with getting the snags attended to and always got them chopped off the list with various professionals. We were lucky not to have many at all but a truly lovely guy that never made you feel a snag was un important. So over all Cala @ Finchampstead, Wokingham have been outstanding and with a new team member Sam, she has made a great addition to a wonderful sales team, all so professional and also lovely people. So David, Dianne, Matt and Sam thank you so much for making our move the best experience ever. 🙏
