I rented with Carter Jonas because the location of the flat was perfect for my work. My initial contact with Carter Jonas sales/rentals was very pleasant. Sadly most everything related my experience with Carter Jonas was negative. When I moved in, my mum and I spent hours (around 7 hrs each) cleaning the flat. Black dust was coating the entire living room bookshelf unit, and the shower and other appliances required extensive scrubbing. The carpet had not been vacuumed under the sofa or chairs, and when I rearranged the furniture, there was gross stuff underneath. The upholstery was so dirty that I bought covers for the chair and sofa. I spent a couple of hours completely redoing the move-in inventory because it was very incomplete and didn't make note of any of the problems with the flat. Several appliances/ lights didn't work when I moved in, and I had to deal with getting repairmen into the flat. The toilet lid was broken, and the towel heater didn't work at all. One of the living room light fixtures was noticeably cracked, the stove light didn't work, there were large cracks all over the walls, and I could keep going. That was just move-in. Thankfully I was able to get the contact information of a maintenance person (who I think worked for the landlord, not Carter Jonas), and he was very helpful. The leasing agent was unresponsive when I tried contacting her about the uncleanness/maintenance needs of the flat. I sent pictures of everything along with the completed inventory report to ensure that my deposit wouldn't be affected, but didn't receive a response. The Carter Jonas agent was also rude and ambiguous about residential parking. The common areas of the building were NEVER cleaned. And sometimes rubbish overflowed the bins. Once Carter Jonas sent a rather aggressive email to all residents of the building about this rubbish situation, which was inappropriate for those of us who were using the bins within reason. Move-out was the worst part, with Carter Jonas trying to charge more than the legal guidelines for breaking a lease (especially during a pandemic; I became unemployed, and this was why I had to break my lease). They also hassled me to keep part of my deposit for "cleaning," even though I left the flat very clean (far cleaner than I found it!). This was such a waste of my time, but I appealed on principle, and finally with the help of a third party (the deposit protection scheme) received my full deposit.I could say more, but in short, I don't plan to do business with Carter Jonas again or recommend them to anyone.

My experience with Carter Jonas has been very positive; I was having so much trouble finding a rental, and Naomi was one of the only agents in all of Oxford who offered me anything to see. Since moving in, Maddy has been really helpful with settling in. Sure, renting can be a pain, but I really feel like the folks here are doing everything possible to get you into a good home. My partner and I went to view a rental property with our children. We decided we loved it and put an application straight in and received the acknowledgement email. We didn't hear anything following this so we chased it up... and chased it up .... and chased it up! .... Carter Jonas kept making excuses, 'we've come through to the wrong department', 'the agent dealing with us isn't it' etc etc. They just NEVER responded, awful way to treat a family with young children who were excited to move into their new home. You are dealing with people's lives! Never known anything like this. Presumably we weren't strong candidates for this property but actually telling us would have been appreciated! We went by a little while after and new tenants were already moving in. Appalling services!. Further Notes: Carter Jonas has asked for more information twice now, again without even acknowledging it being sent the first time so I won't be wasting my time sending the information for a second time.
