Lorraine Robinson at tynemouth branch was amazing from start to finish, I was concerned that we wouldn’t be able to rent the property we wanted, she went above and beyond speaking with the landlord on our behalf and had the tenancy agreed subject to references. Every time I called the office she listened to everything I had to say and offered help where she could. I found her the most helpful member of staff I’ve dealt with at Jan Forster’s and she is a credit to the company. Thanks again Lorraine

I must say that even though I didn’t end up renting through these guys, I still had a really great experience with them. I went go view a flat, the lady who showed me found was lovely and so helpful. I found somewhere a little closer to where I wanted to be and when I let them know I’d be going through someone else, they were so understanding and wished me luck. I also really appreciated how after the viewing, they checked in on me but didn’t bombard me with emails like some other agents do. I still regularly check their website for properties as I’d love to work with them again in the future.

Very poor service

I tried to show up at their offices to arrange a viewing, but they closed the office because there were protestors. I learned from the protestors that Jan Forster has kept one of their existing tenants in disrepaired housing with mould, ivy and dangerous electrics, and served a section 21 on them after they filed a complaint with environmental health. I'm glad I bumped into them, or who knows what my renting situation would have ended up being! Do not rent from this organisation!

Damp, mould, leaks

Have you ever felt like your house doesn’t have enough greenery or water features? If so, I wholeheartedly recommend renting with Jan Forster Estate Agents. JF understand that city life often means you don’t get to spend enough time in nature, so they let nature come to you! JF allow their tenants to live for months on end with mould; ivy growing through cracks in the structure; leaks; and damp. They ignore their tenants requests for these things to be removed, to the extent that four rooms in one family’s house were totally unusable. JF are so dedicated to the idea that we should all be communing with nature and the outdoors that they even served this same family an eviction notice for 10th December, sending them out onto the streets for Christmas.

appaling treatment of tennants

appaling treatment of tenants, property left in disrepair with multiple health hazards such as electrical hazards and damp/mould, when complaining about these issues, was issued with a no fault eviction. absoloutley abhorrent 'service' and treatment of tenants who have always payed rent on time. the landlord lives and works in dubai earning massive amounts. the letting agents have no care or regard for human wellbeing and care only about maximising profits and allowing tenants to either accept living in squalor or be homeless.

STAY CLEAR, EVICTING A FAMILY AT CHRISTMAS

Jan Forster have left a family in a damp, mouldy home for months. Now they are getting ready to evict them for complaining. Could you be more heartless, greedy and cruel than throwing a family, their children and their baby onto the street just before Christmas? Shame on this lot. They have no place in our city and we will not tolerate them leeching off of families to line their own pockets. Avoid them at all costs.

Listed a families home with JF, forced us to take off the market after we accepted an offer based on their assurance they had been vetted, months went by and buyers finally got refused an mortgage, didn't even have a credit score, by which point the market had tanked, then we had to buy ourselves out the contract. Plus charged us for a walk through video that was supposably sent out to clients, when I asked to see it they couldn't produce it and gave a half arsed reason why it didn't exist.

Sellers beware: sign only on the dotted line

I contacted Jan Forster Estates early in 2022 to obtain a quote to sell my home. They promptly sent out a representative to explain the process to me. He looked around my home and then offered me his opinion on value, which I initially accepted, but then increased, after researching other properties of the same style which had sold at a higher price in less attractive positions. JFE did not question the increased price!My opinion of JFE is not related to their sale of my home, as they marketed the property quickly and secured a buyer at my requested price. However, they did not research any comparable properties which had recently sold which was why my home was under-valued. In addition, the manner in which they convince clients to sign contract documents is not only unprofessional but, as the Property Ombudsman pointed out to me, is a legal issue and I was requested to refer to my solicitor, as the complaint did not come under their remit.I was shown a contract on an ipad which I couldn't clearly read, which was not explained to me nor was I advised how many pages the contract contained. I was asked to sign in a white box on the ipad, but could not see the section to which it related. My signature was then, unbeknownst to me, inserted into all of the sections of the contract.Only when I decided not to move and withdrew my property from the market, did I understand the implications of signing on an ipad. My signature was used to agree to conditions of which I had no knowledge and which have implications for me if I wish to resell my home in the next two years.All I can say, in summary, is: seller beware! Ask for a hard copy before you sign anything and undertake your own research on property values before you meet anyone from JFE.
