Martin & Co are a fairly typical letting agent in that the service is pretty poor overall. The staff in the Manchester branch are fairly dismissive both by email and in person and I never once felt like I was being treated as anything other than a way for them to make money. The fees they charge (including the £48 checkout fee and £36 fee to get a reference when you move on) are absolutely disgusting and having lived in a property they manage for two years I can say with absolute certainty that if I was a landlord I wouldn't use them. Even though it was beneficial for me as I didn't have to deal with them they didn't do a single on-site inspection in two years so if you are a landlord with them my advice to you is request a report when these are supposed to happen as they likely don't! When I moved out of the property they managed it was cleaned very thoroughly (to the point where it was cleaner than when I moved in) and they still charged me a £70 cleaning fee.

Terrible service. Didn't get a contractor around to my flat to fix a simple issue, the landlord stepped in after 3 months and actually got it sorted for me. They are rude, lazy and just very bad when it comes to getting anything done. Currently calling them now in fact, but the man at the office who he tells me is just there to answer the phones is aweful at his job. Tells me a contractor will call me within the hour, doesn't, so I call back to get the contractor's number and he puts me in hold for 10 minutes before hanging up the phone. Now he simply isn't answering the phone at all. Don't use these people.

I called the branch to enquire about properties that had been advertised on Rightmove. The employee was very rude and abrupt when asking about the date I would be ready to move in. I initially overlooked this and continued with the interaction but following more rudeness I calmly expressed my dissatisfaction. I was told to “piss off”. I then told him that I would be making a complaint and he responded with “I couldn’t give a flying f**k”. I understand that estate agents may get busy at times and have a lot of people who are wasting time but I don’t think this is an acceptable way to deal with a potential client.

This is my first time renting via Martin and co, so far I have been extremely impressed by their speed, contact and efficiency. I have been dealing directly with Jess MIles at the Manchester City Centre, she has been fantastic, patient and supportive. All queries and concerns are answered immediately and she does not get frustrated with the amount of questions we have. I would recommend them as an excellent letting agent - as so many miss the need for good customer service.

he worst letting company I had to deal with. They will promiss you everything what you ask for but things never happend. We have been promissed with change carpets on the day we moved in. We had to contact them for more then 9 months and after that time period they finally changed them. Everytime when we had some query, something damaged or item for replacement, they had excuses in type "lanlord is currently on holiday".Waiting time for answer is also ridiculous and sometimes you don't get answer at all. All service fees are overprice which I don't understand, becouse no one of them do their job. Company based on arogant people with lack of willingness to work. Never again

Poor customer service. My viewing was rearranged due to the request of this company, who were made aware when I made the viewing that I was travelling from 250 miles away. However nobody turned up, after attempting to call over 5 times I finally got through, I was told that somebody would call me back after 10 minutes. This did not happen. After another half an hour I called back, which took a further 8 attempts, I was told the same thing again. Overall I waited for an hour and 15 minutes and I am still waiting on the phone call that was due "in 10 minutes". This company clearly is unprofessional and made no effort to right their wrongs also making no attempt to apologise along the way, absolutely appalled your employees are willing to treat your customers in this manner.

I am compelled to share my experience as prospect buyer. First of all, no one was at the building when I arrived on time. I waited 10 minutes before calling the office, someone then hung up on me before she could find out where the agent was! When the agent eventually showed up 15 minutes late, he said "our office is only around the corner, you should have come there first". He suspected my unhappiness, and checked if I was okay. When I told him someone hung up on me, he insisted it was the silence of call waiting. I heard the end of call beep before the dead tone, he was walking to the property, yet he insisted he was right and I was wrong. I may not be in the mood to check out the property any longer as you can imagine, but I did anyway. Yet he couldn't answer many questions at all, "need to check with landlord", "landlord hasn't got back to us", yet they've been marketing the property for two months! A complete time wasting experience, now I know whom I won't be calling when it comes to buy, sell or let properties!

Absolute worst letting company I have ever dealt with. Nothing but false promises of replies, saying you need to send an email yet they never reply to emails. Somehow James Murphy has made it to management in the past 12 months that I have unfortunately been with Martin and Co, despite being the most useless agent that I have ever worked with! If you're going to try and work with this agency, make sure you hire a solicitor at the same time as you're going to need one. I certainly have.

We've been with Martin & Co for almost 8 years (in the same flat), which is, as we've been told, a national record for this agency. In our experience, they respond to urgent queries very fast and send their contractors to fix stuff on the same day if they believe an issue to be an emergency. (What constitutes an emergency is another matter. There must be a list somewhere.) Their staff is always polite and responsive. Those who write negative reviews should probably understand that there's so much the agency can do if your landlord is reluctant to do his part. Martin & Co have been pretty good at negotiating with ours on our behalf, I think. Overall, this has been a mixed experience - but mostly because of our landlord, not the agency. The agency do their job well.

I have used Martin & Co since 2006 to manage 2 properties in Manchester. They have been helpful, responsive and professional at all times. Any issues are quickly dealt with and the staff are polite and helpful. This has been important to me as I live in Australia and cannot be onsite to check how things are going. In 2014/15 Martin & Co found buyers for my 2 properties for realistic sale prices. I would not hesitate to recommend Martin & co to other landlords.

Do not use this letting agent, they don’t respond to your complaints and mislead you with advertised properties.

Very dissappointed with this company, after being in one of their flats for over a year, and our problems started from the very first day we signed off, crew very nice until then, afterwards the story is different. Promises done verbally were not finally carried out because "is not written on contract", abusive T&Cs that make you to pay for everything. Flat passed over to us dirty, we had to add an extra page to explain condition of accommodation on check-in, which was left very clean on check-out and even though we had to pay a cleaning fare... shameless being working in that place, I wish read comments before sign any contract with them

Again surprised at the negative comments made on here. I am a landlord and Martin&Co - Manchester Central look after all of my flats. They provide an excellent service, providing me with a detailed statement each month. The proof of the excellent service is that in all the years I have had Martin&Co - Manchester Central let out my properties there has not been a day where it hasn't been let out. A very professional run outfit with minimum of fuss. Keep up the good work..

Martin & Co Manchester Central have managed my rental property for over 3 years now. I am extremely satisfied with the level of service I receive and I would not hesitate to recommend them to others. The key things I have been most impressed with are, (a) Martin & Co always respond promptly to my email correspondence, (b) Martin & Co always process payments on schedule whilst providing a detailed statement of account, (c) Martin & Co deal with all maintenance issues in an efficient and transparent manner.

We have had a positive experience renting a property in the Northern Quarter, Manchester, through Martin & Co. The agency fees were cheaper than other agencies and the sign up process was relatively easy. Once in the flat any furniture that needed replacing was replaced within days of moving into the flat and was all brand new and to a good standard. We have had no problems or any hassle from Martin & Co since moving in and have been allowed to enjoy our stay in the flat peacefully. I would certainly recommend Martin & Co to others looking to rent in Manchester.
