Over the past couple of weeks I think I spoke with pretty much all letting agencies in Manchester and my experience with all of them was extremely poor. I dealt with letting agencies before but the ones in Manchester have to be the worst because absolutely no one cares. The demand for properties is so high that they don’t even want to have a conversation with you, they either put the phone down on you or tell you to go for a block viewing and from there on is pretty much down to your lucky star whether you can get a property or not. I have, however, had the pleasure of dealing with Tony at Hills and I honestly can’t recommend them enough. He listened to what I was looking for and my reasons why and he’s made himself available to not only show me around but he also gave me options of other properties that were within my budget and my requirements. Hills are raising the bar for all letting agencies in Manchester and whether you’re looking to rent or buy, I would highly recommend them above anyone else. Thank you!

Hills are all too willing to work with unscrupulous landlords. Examples of the treatment we received: Promising the property will be cleaned only to have to spend our entire moving day cleaning literally everything. Items in the house in my viewing photos later found dumped in long foliage at the end of the garden along with a lot of other garden cr*p. Rotten shed and garden bench collapsed shortly after moving in. Hills refused to ask the landlord to remove all of this and told we will have to pay if we don't move it. Using the term 'fixtures and fittings' to shirk responsibility for repairs. E.g. under Hills' loose definition a hob that is built into the kitchen countertop is not a fixture or fitting and therefore not the landlord's responsibility to repair. Neither apparently is a built in fridge inside the kitchen cupboard. You will be promised the world, but as soon as you've signed the contract all that helpful service goes right out of the window. *Edit* of course I wrote this years later (once no longer under the Hills & Landlord thumb) I couldn't speak freely at the time because of potential consequences. Just goes to show how unpleasant an experience it was that we still feel this way years later.

WORST AGENCY EVER DO NOT RENT A PROPERTY FROM THEM!!! They have no ethics, and do not comply with the law! They ask for your money to be sent before seeing a contract (which is illegal) and don’t protect your deposit (also illegal). When questioned about their improper handling, they deny and take no responsibility. it’s been a year, they still have our deposit because they refuse to accept their wrongdoings. They are rude, unethical and arrogant. Definitely not salfords leading agency, by far the worst agency in the UK. I would not trust them and they need to be shut down. It’s people like this who try to take advantage of vulnerable people and their money, for shame on you. 5 star reviews probably from their employees, shocking Update** In response to you Martin.. 1) the property was unfurnished and left in immaculate condition so that’s a lie.. and 2) as you are already aware, it is still ILLEGAL to not protect a deposit after 30 days of receiving it.. so unfortunately, you still are in the wrong. I look forward to finally meeting you in court soon :)
