The kitchen is a mismatch of cupboards doors etc missing work surface holes in the walls mismatched tiles and water damaged shelves, the electric sockets switches have gaps that water condensation can get into. Anchor is very slowly repairing these. The bathroom has a broken extractor fan that can't be repaired so I'm waiting to see how they can work around that. The toilet flush system was so slow to fill up again, but they have now fixed that. The shower temperature bar was either very hot or cold, again they have now fixed that. . I wonder why these jobs could not have been fixed prior to me moving in. Shout out to the Local management who have been very helpful in organising the repairs for me.

TrustpilotThank You, Anchor
Anchor has been very helpful to me. I had an urgent housing situation and applied to a few housing organizations with the supporting medical documents I had. Anchor gave my application urgent attention and sought to find a place for me at different schemes under its umbrella. The officials I spoke to were very understanding and helpful. Though I had to wait for a while, at last I have been provided with a home in one of their schemes. Thank you very much Anchor !

Trustpilot5 star reviews are misleading
All these 5 star reviews are from people who have just moved in, they are not a true reflection of Anchor. Anyone looking to lodge with Anchor should disregard them and look at the less glowing reviews. I'm not saying they're terrible but I think my 3 star is generous enough. Also, the reviewer complaining about costs rising is correct, it's becoming very expensive to live in an Anchor property.

we have been in here since 27th AUGUST and have yet to be able to use our shower without paddling in water that will not go down as the pump does not work properly even though it has supposedly been fixed.... this is not good enough as we are paying full rent and we need a wet room for our poor health and cannot manage a bath...very angry indeed.

TrustpilotMy experience with an Anchor Hannover managed home.
I thought i would share my thoughts on Anchor Hannover. I bought a retirement flat for my dad in 2011 in Worthing. I have no complaints at all about the site and staff on site. They were always very helpful and friendly. The site was generally well looked after and a nice environment however I have to say the monthly charges which work out at now just under 20 pound a day are very high and in my opinion are the main reason the flats can languish on the property market waiting to be sold for a long time. The high cost of the monthly service charge was somewhat exasperated by the meals subsidy. Over the time dad was there the quality of meals was very up and down but whether you ate at the restaurant or not you still had to contribute every month and it wasn`t a small amount. My main complaint are the hidden costs when selling the property. Extra Anchor Hannover administration fees amounted to 500 pound along with over 300 pound for a surveyors report which they insisted on. The office staff were obviously not bothered how long they took when dealing with the sale and several times my solicitor had to chase them up because of the time they were taking to respond to queries and actions. They once advised me that they had responded already to my solicitors questions but when I contacted my solicitor she advised me that they still hadn`t responded and she was still chasing them. Someone wasn`t telling the truth. At 20 pound a day it soon added up and my backdated service charges soon racked up. Add on top of that a 1% sinking fund and my debt to Anchor was 4000 pound. I believe they market themselves as a "not for profit" organisation which I presume means those at the top of the company are being paid very well.In balance when my time comes I will not chose to buy an anchor Hannover managed flat again as the hidden costs at exit make it an extremely expensive sale.

TrustpilotCarpet removed but left protruding nails and holes in floors which are dangerous
Upon moving into my new flat, I discovered the flooring was in an appalling condition, riddled with holes and protruding nails, posing a safety hazard. Upon discussing the issue with my building manager, I was told that retaining the previous tenants' carpets could have prevented this problem. Unfortunately, I lack the funds to hire professionals to address the damaged skirting.I have dust allergies and use an inhaler for breathing problems I requested the carpet be removed because of my health issues, and it was more than 15 years old. It has been a disappointment regarding Anchor, and I am unwell and stressed with this outcome.Regards,Susan Rodgers

TrustpilotTake no responsibility Passed from pillar to post all over…
Passed from pillar to post all over Anchor....from Management....customer service etc. If you complain they group up have a script of how Anchor is right. They don't take responsibility for their residents behaviour there are no criminal checks on tennants so you don't know who your living next door to. The company is run like an institution & you feel like your living in one or a prison. The Management pass the book....talk nonsense & then make a scapegoat of the person complaining. The only way to get an outcome as far as I'm concerned is take it to the media & through the civil court system. Never known such nonsense from a company who are non profit. Apart from the fact the main management salaries are top heavy & the tennants foot the bill on average of £800 a month rent per tennant. Do the maths. This is not social supported housing...most other housing associations supported will charge approximately £430 a month.

TrustpilotThe only advice I would give potential…Buying Advice
The only advice I would give potential residents is 'Buyer Beware'. My mother lived in Cherrytrees in Redcar for 17yrs. In that time she paid her monthly fee to Anchor, which every year was raised. I know Anchor had to raise fees to cover their costs, but now and again they would come and ask for other amounts to cover their costs,ie to rplace doulble glazed windows etc. I thought her monthly fee would cover that.

I moved in a year ago and feel it’s the best move I ever made. The managers are very helpful, friendly and approachable. Nothing is too much trouble. Marie does a good job of keeping the communal areas clean and tidy. I have made new friends and enjoy going to play Hoy twice a week in phase 2 when I can. Whenever someone asks if I like it here, they only have to see the smile on my face which says it all.

I cannot say more than a huge thank you for the level of care I experienced given to my 91 year old friend who has none of her own family. I have , in the past helped her to remain independent but recently her health has deteriated and I am now finding she needs more care than previously. In short I wish to give my huge thanks to the Warden and her assistant who have gone above and beyond in their care for my friendThey have done domestic tasks that simply arent in their job description and importantly sourced resources to help her remain at home.I am 76 and live in another town and I know that without their help and understanding I simply don't know how I would have managed her care. Generally the flats enjoy a lovely social life which my friend loved. Hopefully she will soon return to that. So, wonderful care. Safe environment and a lovely social atmosphere which, to be honest I would be more than pleased to experience should I ever need too.Thank you to the Staff who showed such care.

TrustpilotMove to another property
Where should I start? The list is to long to know where to begin!!!We signed the lease on the 19th February 2024 and as today the 22th March 2024 we are nowhere near a moving date? The flat in question as been neglected for 20+years both by Anchor and the previous tenants with a multitude amounts of repairs work to be carried out!Needless to say that we have to chase all the work ourselves on a daily basis. And also extend our moving date to the maximum time allowed at considerable cost to us (two months rent for both properties to be precise)We came very close to change our mind and stay put in our old property! But we couldn’t because so far this as cost us £3.000 in decorating new carpet etc…We are frustrated angry and upset on to why this is taking so long for Anchor to get their act together???(And this is an understatement)All Anchor seem to be interested in is revenue and get as much money as they can get away with from you!!!We spent two solid weeks cleaning and disposing of rubbish left behind by the previous tenants And as we are both in our mid sixties we have reached a breaking point and can’t do much more !!!We have been resident at Hanover association that then became Anchor for a number of years and we are sorry to say that things have got a lot worse since Anchor as taken over Anchor doesn’t seem to care about loyal and long term residents! So beware if you even thinking of moving to one of their properties!!!

This company must be the worst retirement housing company ever. They don't care about there residents at all. They have neglected our properties, so badly, pensioners are struggling to keep warm. All pensioners are suffering whilst they charge us more money per month and we get nothing for it. They ignore your complaints. They also employ the cheapest most unprofessional people you could think of. They should be a shamed of them selves. I hope that one day, they suffer like they make us suffer.

TrustpilotFive Simple Questions For Anchor
Five simple questions for Anchor:1. When you have a managed owner-occupied estate comprising over 50 properties and almost 70% of the property owners vote to go to the national press to ask them to investigate how Anchor operates, don’t you think you are doing something wrong?2. We know that your normal response to an individual customer complaint is to brush it aside or to ignore it completely, but when a representative group, voted for by the residents of a site, asks to meet the Regional Head of Home Ownership to discuss the residents’ collective grievances, don’t you think they deserve the common courtesy of a response, or even better to actually engage with that group?3. You have a lease in place that outlines your obligations to maintain certain aspects of our properties, with windows and doors being the main areas of concern. After YEARS of utterly neglecting this obligation and refusing to implement requested replacements, do you think it is fair that elderly residents (the ones that could afford it) have been forced to pay out thousands of pounds to replace rotten doors it is your responsibility to maintain, whilst those who can’t afford it have to “put up and shut up”, whilst Anchor hold almost £250,000 in the site sink fund?4. Can you explain why the Anchor Management Administration Fee for Band L Projects (over £75K) was changed from a cap of £4,800 to 10% of the project value immediately prior to implementing the recent Band L project at our site?5. With all the obvious, and widespread, customer dissatisfaction, can Anchor please justify the massive salaries they are paying themselves at higher management and executive level? Panorama to investigate Anchor? You have our full support.

TrustpilotSecure tenancy
I've been an Anchor tenant for 6 years and have been very happy. My flat is in good repair and any issues are dealt with in a timely manner.Having a secure tenancy is very important to me. I think older people are often not an attractive prospect for private landlords and I feel fortunate to live among people of similar age to myself. A good social life if you want it and peace and quiet if you don't.Affordable rents too, especially compared to the private rental sector.
