Poor communication

The communication during the home-buying process was very poor. When an offer is made ‘subject to survey,’ it is reasonable to expect Sowerbys to clarify their position. They should have the courtesy to explain that, in their view, paying for a survey will not be considered once a first offer has already been accepted on that basis.

We have been very pleased with the way Sowerbys have handled the sale of our property. In particular, Joanna, who took on the progression of our sale once we had accepted an offer, was exceptional.. She was unfailingly efficient, polite, helpful, diplomatic and above all else, calm and reassuring. Over the years I have been involved in the purchase and sale of some 13 properties. The experiences were not always comfortable, however from the first meeting with Sowerbys Sales Manager/Valuer, Charlie, followed by 21 bookings for viewings and acceptance of an offer in less than 2 weeks of marketing I was convinced that Sowerbys is the best Estate Agent I have come across. Their efficiency is like a well-oiled machine and their performance in communicating is outstanding. Laura Bird certainly demonstrated her ability to obtain the best offer. Following this, Joanna Lobb took over to steer me though the solicitors’ queries and the contracts. Jo provided me with frequent updates on how the sale was progressing, being more positively involved in chasing outstanding matters than many solicitors I have known. We chose Sowerbys of Holt largely on the recommendation of an old school friend who had spent most of his career as an estate agent/surveyor in East Anglia. Nobody could have provided more positivity and encouragement than Charlie (Sales Manager/Valuer) when he paid us his first visit; we immediately knew things had got off to a good start. Following a very competent presentation of the property we received two 'best and final offers' within a mere 17 days of his initial visit; one of these offers was from the person to whom we have now sold the property. Sowerbys did all they could to expedite the sale: their communication with our solicitors was exemplary. Throughout the process Laura Bird acted as a patient and judicious intermediary between ourselves and our buyer. We have nothing but the highest praise for the commitment shown by Laura and her colleagues. It used to be customary for Brits working overseas, like myself, to offer to buy a helpful colleague a farm in Bond Street. My old school friend can dream on, but I'll always be grateful for his recommendation.
