Think of letting in Scotland, thing of DJ Alexander!

If you are looking for a befitting apartment to rent in Scotland, you need to cross mental hurdle of searching on the web for months, psychological trauma of viewing/applying and getting rejections, and financial stress of high cost of renting and making a huge statutory/cautionary deposit. BUT DJ Alexander Letting Agent in Edinburgh is completely opposite. These guys are highly professionals. Their feedback system is robust and timely too. The staff of DJ Alexander in Edinburgh (like Caitlin Butler, Kaiya, Leno, Calumn, etc.) are awesomely dedicated and supportive. Your enquiriesteam is phenomenal. I have been with DJ Alexander since I moved to Edinburgh and my last apartment offer is simply WOW. Keep it up!

Guilia Ceccarelli - What an agent!

What an agent! The renting market in Edinburgh has been bananas over the past few months my housemate and I have been looking until we came across Giulia Ceccarelli. I was unsuccessful on an application to a property but instead of just forgetting about me, she did everything afterwards to help us secure a property and did it with genuine compassion. Needless to say, she helped us find a property that ticked all our boxes and without her help I'm sure we would still be without a home - so thank you!

A Criminally Unprofessional Letting Agent

I had an abysmal experience with DJ Alexander. I rented a property via them for three years as a student. During this time there were countless issues at the property, absolutely none of which were attended to in good time, or by the timeframe given on our contract. As an example, our kitchen flooded due to a DJA-contracted plumber improperly installing a dishwasher. We notified them of the issue immediately, and it was not attended to for over a week. This was an issue that has likely caused structural damage to the house, yet DJA did nothing about it. As another, even more extreme example, a suspended kitchen cupboard collapsed due to improper fitment (proven by an independent joiner's review), and caused thousands of pounds worth of damage to my personal property, and harmed me. DJA are responsible for upkeep of the property, and yet refused to take any responsibility. I ended up successfully suing the landlord, and DJA were continually opaque about facilitating communication between myself and this landlord.There were genuinely countless more examples of this over our three year tenancy.My experience with DJ Alexander was, in short, criminally unprofessional. Do not use this letting agent.

Shoutout to Paul

We had arranged to move into a flat with DJ Alexander but due to an unforeseen issue with the bathroom the flat was no longer available to move into when we needed it. Paul Hyett-Czompo was incredibly helpful in trying to resolve the situation and was able to find us a suitable alternative flat for which I was able to view on the same day. He helped us progress our application very quickly and within two days we had agree everything with the landlord and signed the lease.

+ Staff at DJ Alexander such as Laura Mctaggart were very accommodating of the unique circumstances of my viewings eand questions.+ Holding deposit to contract was very rapid.- Tenancy referencing was using a external company called goodlord. It was quite laggy so I suspect it made an api call to a server then waited for a response for every possible user input instead of handling logic via a headless form like most people would.

Bravo Giulia and Chloe

House hunting and Moving can be very stressful especially when you’re juggling work storage facilities and transport. Both Giulia and Chloe went out their way and operated way above and beyond what any other agents would normally be willing to do, to ensure my move in went perfectly. I found them both very helpful especially when they contacted the apartment owner to secure me an earlier move in date so it coincided with my days off work and also saved me a very lot of money which I would have had to pay the storage company as they insisted that any extra day storage would only be allowed if I paid for a month ( nearly 250 ).When viewing properties I found other agents were more robotic and very quick to tell me what they can’t do, Chloe and Giulia were the opposite, no robot answers to questions such as “ computer says no” and more human “ let’s see how we can make this work”. Thank you both very much.

Absolutely awful company. By far the worst letting agency on the market. The owner must be clueless or downright greedy as they steal people's deposits. So many others say the same thing, and they are literally the reason letting agencies get a bad rep. We left our apartment in immaculate condition, better than when we received it, which we have photo and video evidence of, yet they still deduct money from the deposit, so there is literally no point in cleaning your apartment when you leave as they will still deduct money from your deposit. Louis was also terrible to deal with, taking ages to reply and not helping whatsoever. AVOID.

This is a terrible agency. Repairs take forever. had ancient furniture. By the end of the tenancy the flat was left in great condition, even better than the state we got it in, and they had the audacity to cut a huge sum from my deposit regarding stuff out of my control, like cleaning windows externally, knowing Glasgow is a rainy city, and purposely delaying the post move out inspection, resulting in the delay of releasing of the deposit(what’s left) knowing that the flat got rented after my move out. Extremely unprofessional. Terrible experience

After waiting over an hour and a half for a letting agent that never showed up I was not happy, I had taken time off my work to view this flat just for it to be wasted, I contacted Dj Alexander that afternoon and asked for an explanation and a new date to view the property, I was told I would get a call first thing the next working day regarding the problem. This did not happen. I called again and spoke to an advisor named Harry, he wasn’t able to help me right away with a new appointment but proceeded to email me and keep me updated he was also extremely apologetic and I felt my complaint was actually getting taken seriously. I got a call a few hours later from Harry with a new appointment that fitted my work schedule meaning I didn’t have to take more time off.My experience wasn’t great with DJ Alexander but I’m thankful Harry was able to rectify the situation with no further stress on me. Our bathroom ceiling fell in on…

Our bathroom ceiling fell in on Saturday 7th May, due to a leak coming from upstairs which is a DJ Alexander owned property. There was no emergency contact in existence, we got a voicemail message telling us to deal with it ourselves and get back in touch when the office opened Monday.On the Tuesday someone came and resealed the bath as a temporary repair and we were told they were quoting for a full renovation of the bathroom. Our letting agent had a temp repair done on our ceiling but were understandably reluctant to do a full repair until upstairs had been fully repaired so it didn't just happen again. We are now on July 4th, almost two months since the incident and DJ Alexander have done nothing. They have ignored multiple calls and emails from our letting agent, as well as from our neighbour renting the above property. So we are now still stuck with a temp repair only, which we've had to have re-secured as the leak is still coming through, and is now visibly spreading to more of our ceiling. The damp from the leak is now also spreading to our kitchen which is next door to the bathroom. Our flat is becoming unsafe, through no fault of our letting agent, and completely on DJ Alexander!

It’s disappointing that to write this review I have had to give them a star at all! DJ Alexander have to be the worst letting agency in Scotland and their checkout team in particular, the most unprofessional and least competent by a country mile. Mine has been a disgraceful and genuinely shocking end of tenancy experience. I am (was) a landlord of a single properly. It has just been vacated and has been left in an appalling state by the tenants. Absolutely filthy with an appallingly neglected, overgrown & rubbish strewn private garden area, and a whole spectrum of damage to the interior fabric of the flat, including through unapproved installations by the tenant (some of which they’ve just left in place presumably to try and disguise the damage to plasterwork and tiling if removed). I can only assume that DJ Alexander’s property inspector didn’t actually attend the flat in person for the check out inspection and / or paid zero heed to the terms of the PRA and the schedule of condition in so doing. This team is quite genuinely dangerously incompetent, such is the level of complete oblivion with which they have approached their obligations at tenancy end. If you are a landlord be aware that this letting agency does nothing to actually earn their fees - they are unconcerned with ensuring that a tenant abides by the PRA terms and as for upholding the value in, and purpose of, forking out for a record of condition at tenancy outset - forget it. I did., but DJ Alexander haven’t actually bothered to measure the checkout condition of my fiat against it. As can be said about every aspect of my relationship with this shower, every penny paid to them has been money for absolutely nothing. Oh, and they’ll pass you all round the houses too when you phone, and refuse to give you access to your own keys too. Heaven forbid they should actually offer meaningful service. I cannot stress this enough - avoid, avoid, avoid this letting agent at all costs. Unhelpful, unprofessional and incompetent, they are nothing but a deeply unpleasant stain on the Scottish property sector.
