GoogleA disappointing experience with DJ Alexander. It appears that their attitude is to squeeze every penny possible out of tenants for the smallest of imperfections in a property. It appears that there is no room for anything other than perfection (a standard unachievable in dated Edinburgh tenements), and punitive charges will follow if you do not meet this standard. I will not be using them again and definitely would not recommend them to anyone else. This is a prime example why property agents have a bad reputation in this area.

GoogleSummary: Shockers! Scary. Danger left unfixed. I've reviewed many companies and DJ Alexander were certainly lacking.
Detail: From a tenents point of view they were terrible.
They gave keys to a tradesman without telling us who then entered the property without warning and scared the heck out of my wife with a man walking in!
We had a basement flat on Heriot Row. The steps down were slimy and green and slippery. My wife and I both fell down in the first week. We complained and sent photos. Lucky no one was seriously injured. We were there 6 months and the steps were finally pressure hosed clean 4 days before we left.
The kitchen tap was broken. A tradesman greased up the spindle twice (to temporarily fix it) and both recommended the tap be replaced. Still not replaced.
Poor show Alexander.
Pretty unimpressive.

GoogleTerrible treatment for student tenants. We had faulty windows and they told us that we could either remove the reinforced glazing and suffer colder temperatures and more noise from the busy main road OR we could keep the reinforced glazing but could not open the windows. We opted to keep the windows to maintain heat (already an unfair compromise) and then at the end of our tenancy they charged us for window cleaning and refused to even discuss the charges - demanding that we clean windows that did not even function. Because of that we had to go through a lengthy dispute case. Not worth the time or the energy, terrible service.

GoogleHorrible experience with DJ Alexander. They went down the hill in the last year. Customer service is poor and everytime you have an issue you have to go through so many different agents who doesn't know what they are doing. Flats not clean to perfection when you move in but then you moving out they are expecting cleaning done to professional standard. All they want is charge you extra so you will lose your deposit. I wouldn't recommend their service to an enemy. Stay away from DJ Alexander.

GoogleAvoid at all costs.
I was with DJ Alexander for two years, dealt with endless different members of staff. Complete nightmare chasing problems. We moved into a flat which was dirty and in poor condition. Very few of the repairs needed over our tenancy were undertaken (those that were, were undertaken to a very low standard), and no cleaning was offered. Contractors used are of the lowest quality and required cleaning up after.
Agency tried to take our deposit for historic damage and cleaning which wasn't required. Even after providing evidence that the property was left in better condition than when we arrived, we were still charged for cleaning.
It seems the process they have in place is to charge tenants as much as possible to prop up their bank balance. I have no doubt that the previous tenants were charged for cleaning which evidently wasn't undertaken.
Despite government efforts to prevent estate agents holding such a high position of power, this company continues to abuse it's position.
If you *MUST* use this company, photograph EVERYTHING upon arrival and email this to the company as evidence. Never call them as these discussion go unrecorded and ignored. KEEP A PAPER TRAIL, and keep a solicitor on hand!

GoogleOk.Where to start.
Possibly the worst thing that happened to me when I rented from this company was that people were given keys without permission to walk into the flat. Having just moved from Australia this made me feel a bit insecure.
Also, the maintenance that I requested was very slow,the stone cleaning outside was done the day before I left. That took 5 months to do!
When we moved in there was no security or street light to our basement flat.This is pretty bad when you are paying £1450 per month.
This again took over a month to rectify.
Poor show DJ Alexander
You need to value good tenants better😕

GoogleDo not take their clients concerns seriously. The door on our building was broken for months. We and several of our neighbors reported that many times. No problem solved. We even ended up with a situation that a drunk person entered into our building and lied down in front of our flat door. We were forced to call the police. Again no response from them. Thus, we decided to move out. The moving out was a different story - not only will they ignore your emails but they will give their best to rob you. And if you are lucky get their email response, it will be rude and Ill-mannered.
UPDATE: Their response here clearly demonstrates their professional ethics. I had the contract with DJ Alexander and not with anyone else. It was their responsibility to maintain the property or make adequate arrangements. It is clear form their response that they did not think it was their problem to look after the concerns of their tenants. Who cares if we had an incident in the building involving the emergency services due to the problem or that the tenants could not even unlock the entrance door to the building on several occasions. Nor did they think they had any responsibility to take any actions to solve the problem. They just conveniently pass the blame onto someone else. I would let the public make their interpretations just based on their response below. I recommend to avoid them at any cost
