Went to views 3 bedroom flat and I seemed to know more about the property than the guy showing us the house! Asked if the property has a HMO liscence and was assured that it does, even got taken through the process of how to add someone to the lease. Over the weekend we were making our mind up and that's where the frustration began. Have had to chase Sean for updates on the property, then found out there's a problem and I've had to chase him for any update which took days to get him to tell me anything! Turns out there's no HMO liscence and I haven't heard anything since Tuesday 11th December and oh the property isn't listed anymore! What the heck? Was hoping for better service that this- highly disappointed with the lack of information and that whatever info I was given was not fully accurate.

They want you to be a working professional, yet can only arrange viewing from Monday to Friday 10am-5pm...We were told to phone up a few days before so not to be disappointed with the flats being taken, we got time off work and phoned 5 days prior only to be told no appointments were available for any property for almost two weeks...I can't get past looking at their properties on a website, I'd have more chance of winning the lottery and buying a house than managing to view a property with them!

Dear Dave. We’re incredibly sorry to hear of your understandable frustration. We absolutely recognise how hard it is to secure rental properties in Edinburgh, especially in the popular locations and in the common price brackets. We try our utmost to be fair and operate a strict ‘1st come 1st served’ policy with all prospective tenants but we know this inevitably sees numerous people missing out. Sometimes enquiry numbers for popular properties do exceed our ability to field them which is a positive sign for the City of Edinburgh but a huge cause of anxiety for anyone eager to find a nice place to live here. We truly know how upsetting it is when we have to inform people that they have missed out or that there is a huge long queue ahead of them. It’s an almost daily task and our staff find it most difficult too. I had experienced major issues with the company used for providing references. It took days of phone calls, emails and broken promises to fix. However, I had the joy of having Laura Mctaggart from DJ Alexander's side who helped to push the application through and assure me that it would all be sorted eventually. 10/10 experience provided from her.

"I have been trying to get in contact regarding arranging a few viewings for flats that I am interested in but I have had no response. I have emailed multiple times as well as phoned on numerous occasions and it just rings out. I completely understand that they will be short staffed during this time and that things will be taking longer than usual but is there any other way I can get in contact?

Avoid this letting agent. Terrible experience renting a property through them. They only seem to care about taking commission from the landlord and their own fees, rather than being a company that will respond to queries. Their flat inventory was a joke, full of inaccuracies and untruths. The standard of cleaning in the flat was not acceptable when we moved in and then they had the audacity to say the flat was not clean enough when we moved out. Please avoid this letting agent. I will never go near them again for either letting or buying a property! Shambolic company with little disregard for anyone, except to line their own pockets!!!

TrustpilotWorst letting agent ever - AVOID
DJ Alexander have been wildly incompetent throughout our tenancy. Upon check out the dispute re our deposit has been laughable. They were looking to charge us for cleaning despite the fact that the property was disgusting when we moved in and we notified them at the time that unless they got it cleaned, we wouldn’t be cleaning it to a professional standard upon leaving. We evidenced this in our dispute but no one paid attention and I had to send the evidence three times. They also tried to charge us for shampooing a carpet that was rated the lowest rating on the inventory when we moved in and was very badly stained before we were even tenants (these charges magically disappeared upon challenging. They even tried to charge us £5 for a lightbulb that we evidenced the previous agent advising us that it could not be changed due to its location! They are absolute rip off merchants. Weeks between responses, never following up etc. We moved out on 26th October and on 13th December we are still no further forward. Honestly if you can avoid them then seriously do!
