Our house was on the market for two months with another estate agent, with only five viewings in that time. I’d been impressed by the team at Brown & Merry - in particular Marcus - who proactively knocked on our door when he saw the For Sale sign to find out our requirements and to recommend some properties. He was the only agent we had met during our house search who actively “sold” the houses to us when he took us around properties rather than just telling us to have a look. It was this that made us choose to swap to Brown & Merry. Onboarding was smooth, marketing was excellent. Charlotte took on our property and secured four viewings in just six days. After less than a week, she found the right buyer and secured us the asking price. Charlotte is organised, communicative, professional and even recommended the home we’re going to moving into. My thoughts on selling a house was always well if its on rightmove it will sell itself, how wrong could i be! I had my house up with another estate agent who not only took poor photos but whos team were less than enthusiastic or knowledgeable about my house on viewings, i only got 2 viewings in 3 months. I went to view a house to buy with brown and merry and was shown around by Charlotte, as soon as i met her i wanted that company to sell my house, she was knowledgeable and engaging! I decided to change to them, we took it off the web for 3 weeks, took new photos, the write up was hundred times better, Tom (manager) came to see it and discuss our options and was equally enthusiastic and engaging. Charlotte and Marcus both came round to view the property they were selling before it went back on the web ( the other company didn't even see it only the man who didn't even do the viewings) One back online Marcus booked in 3 viewings on the first day and i heard him talking to the potential buyers it was like he was selling his own house and sold it in 2 days! Moral of this story is Estate Agents do make a difference so choose right, id sell my house through Brown and Merry Tring again and ill be telling my friends the same! Our experience with Brown and Merry has been great. As with most property sales and purchases there were the inevitable hiccups. Absolute mess of a company

Absolute mess of a company ! Tried to view a house - they said they didn’t have the keys and would phone back when they had them . Never phoned back and although we repeatedly asked for an update was told nothing . House was then sold without any communication with us . When I eventually spoke to the branch manager he was very rude and abrupt and continually talked over me . Think twice about selling your house with them as this seller could have possibly had a higher offer !!

Brazen & Uncooth

I just received call from them regarding my property that is on the market, the "young adult" that called me told me my photos are terrible and the marketing is really bad. when asked why, there of course, wasn't much of an answer. I just find this totally brazen and un-cooth to put down small independent agencies with no substance behind your claims that "your marketing is better" when it quite frankly, is definitely not.

Unethical / possibly illegal practice

Awful from start to finish. I was interested in a property they had listed. They were not actually selling it, it was being sold by an auction house instead. I decided to go with Brown & Merry after being told that that the seller would consider taking it off the market before the sale. The auction house later told me that they would not do this.After the property was sold it was hard to find out if the property was sold or not. I had to find out from the auction house (who were actually really helpful and honest). To this date (nearly 2 months later) B&M still have the house listed for sale (clickbait). Unethical maybe illegal?

Very poor experience in trying to arrange a valuation. The Berkhamstead office didn’t take my contact details and then didn’t show, even though I phoned the day before travelling and also called into their high street office ahead of the supposedly arranged viewing. Also, the lady I spoke to in person in Berkhamsted was dismissive and rude. This agent can’t get the basics right! Such as shame as I had a fantastic rental experience a few years previous with the same agency! I think there are better, more proactive online and high street agents to choose from.

Brown and Merry Watford have been amazing from our first contact with them. Hanan from valuations was professional, responsive and very insightful, she got our house up and online very quick. Jake from sales managed to sell the house without any official viewings for asking value which was incredible! Jamie has been superb throughout the process. 6 months of negotiations (no fault of B+M) and countless set backs did not discourage Jamie and he was always keeping us in the loop as well as providing useful updates. Without him and B+M I am confident the sale would not have gone through and I cannot thank the team enough for all the work they have put into our case. Couldn't recommend highly enough!
