"Nightmarish" is the first word I would use to describe my experience with Tay Letting over the last few years. For most of my tenancy the beautiful flat in a great location was enough to keep me calm when faced with the agency's rampant unprofessionalism, disorganisation, and general laissez-faire attitude to their tenants' wellbeing, but their behaviour throughout my tenancy was warning sign after warning sign pointing towards the ordeal of the moving-out process, if it can be called a process at all. Having given two months notice of my departure, every time I phoned the office to enquire about moving out, documentation, and the return of my deposit, I was met with confusion and complete ignorance from a staff who clearly do not communicate with each other nor even keep the most basic of records. Promised phonecalls were never made, emails with move-out documents never sent, and none of my emails gained a response or even an acknowledgement, which nearly cost me my chance of being able to apply for a new flat due to Tay's failure to provide a basic reference. In the weeks leading up to and following my move-out last month, I have been evaded, ignored, and flat-out lied to by several members of Tay Lettings' staff, notably my erstwhile property manager Angus Cameron, who gave me different information about the same procedures every time I called to chase him about one of the many things he had promised to send over or arrange to legally complete the move. After near-daily phonecalls from myself, my flatmate, and several family members who had to be dragged into this mess as if we were ignorant students to sort it out, I was assured my deposit would be returned by a certain date in August. Of course, it never arrived, and when I phoned to ask for an explanation, Mr Cameron accused me of having left the property in disrepair, citing water damage and mould which we had repeatedly reported to Tay during the *eighteen months* since its occurrence, via phone and email and in person during an inspection, all to no avail. Tay are content to let their tenants live in disorderly and even dangerous conditions, with repairs being put off as long as possible, if they are ever carried out at all. Eventually, having proven that the claimed damage had been reported following due process and conversed with several other members of staff, I was promised another date by which to expect my deposit, again with no results. Finally, after yet more emails and calls went unacknowledged, my deposit was released to me several days ago. I have a strong suspicion that the money was not kept in a safe deposit scheme throughout my tenancy, as is legally mandatory in Scotland, though I no longer have the energy to chase further in an attempt to find out. What the staff of Tay Letting do all day in their office is beyond me, as I have encountered not a single competent member of staff during my three year tenancy, nor one who displays the slightest interest in the wellbeing of their tenants. I'm sure the landlords who use Tay's service have a grand time, as the reviews here reflect, but I would warn any prospective tenant against renting from Tay Letting unless you want to be completely disillusioned by the lack of rights and autonomy tenants have, and by the gross negligence, incompetence, laziness, and at points bare-faced deceit Tay Letting seems to believe is appropriate to the running of a letting agency.NegativeResponsiveness, Quality, Professionalism
