The whole sale and purchase process of my properties were carried out very professionally from start to finish. Lauren is an asset to Simon Blythe not only with her friendliness, professionalism and went the extra mile. She kept me in the loop with everything, when they arranged a viewing it was fully qualified and no tyre kickers. Would highly recommend Simon Bylthe estate agents. Great service all round.

Phoned the Barnsley Branch to make an appointment for my property to be valued. Explained that I work and would it be possible to value at some point. Heard nothing back at all!!! I find it RUDE and it’s only CURTIOUS to phone back to say yes or no. Clearly Simon Blythe doesn’t want business so I’ll spend my money elsewhere !!!!

Rang them to make an appointment for a property viewing, staff wasn't even aware that it was their property so transferred me to Huddersfield branch saying that its their property and then after speaking to Huddersfield branch I got transferred back to Holmfirth back where staff just hung up on me instead of helping me. AVOID!!!!!

I rang this agent at just after 11am to ask if it might be possible to view a property the same day, since I was going away the next day. I told agent I could get there within an hour if a viewing were possible over the day. I was told they would contact vendor and get back within 10 mins. 3 hours later following no call back I rang to ask what had happened, and was given some convoluted narrative of offers and counter-offers on the property, though no explanation as to why no one had called me back and told me what was going on, even though I'd made clear the viewing could only be that day. If it wasn't possible, a simple 'No' was needed. I spoke to manager about how potential buyers - a cash one in this case - were dealt with by the agency, and was given an entirely different and inconsistent narrative of there having to be 24 hours notice for a viewing, then 3 hours notice; but for some reason I couldn't make any sense of, the agent I'd spoken to at 11am wasn't able to tell me either of these things at the time, nor get back to me over the following 3 hours since everyone at the agency had apparently been far too busy for the whole time on calls - presumably all with people deemed more important than I. An offer had apparently been received an hour earlier (so 2 hours after my initial phone call, and an hour after I could have arrived at the property for a viewing myself - I couldn't make sense of the response to my query about timeline either) and there was a need to wait for the offer outcome, known by the end of the day. She would contact me not before the next day (knowing I could only do a viewing on that day and not the next) if a viewing might be possible. She didn't feel the agency had anything to apologise to me for. Meanwhile, she didn't like my 'tone', though failed to explain what was meant by that. I found the manager's tone; and indeed my perceptions of her rudeness, irrelevant to the actual points, but her comments about what had happened extremely dubious - it sounded to me as if my viewing request may have fallen by the wayside for whatever reason, and I wondered if the vendors even knew a cash buyer was being pushed out of the picture perhaps because some incompetence needed covering up. Part of the reason I'd asked about a viewing, however, was that I needed to make a trip elsewhere that day and would be passing close by the property I was interested in. So having set off 3 hours later than needed due to waiting around for the agent to get back, I called in at the property on the way, and spoke to the vendors. They had received and accepted an offer in the morning, 2 hours before I had first rung and asked about a viewing. In fact they did say the agents had contacted them about myself after I had rung at 11am, but having accepted the offer wanted to go with that and not have any more viewings. That was fine with me - I just needed to know what the situation was in regard to the property, which the estate agents' mass obfuscation had entirely prevented. The manager called me about 20 minutes after I continued on my trip, claiming the vendors had contacted them 15 minutes earlier to let them know for the first time about the accepted offer - she was calling me then rather than the following day 'out of courtesy'. I informed her I was sure she knew as well as I did that I had just visited the vendors to find out what was going on. If someone from Simon Blyth reads this, feel free to offer thoughts on how this whole episode could possibly have been allowed to happen. Potential buyers ringing with a viewing request must be one of the most common things any estate agent deals with; and I am baffled as to how my simple request was dealt with so utterly incompetently; and with such complete disrespect for myself. If you make a mistake and forget to get back to someone, why not just own it and apologise? Must be much better than digging a 6 feet hole and ending up with buyers who wouldn't normally give you a 2nd thought questioning your integrity.

Agent replied · 15 June 2024

Dear Miss Ashworth, I am sorry to hear of your dissatisfaction on this occasion. We have received your review and have taken the time to look through it thoroughly. To clarify, you requested a viewing at this property to view the same day if possible. We provided our vendors with all the information and made them fully aware of your cash position and they still decided to put a hold on viewings until the offer had been negotiated and this was to be informed to you in a timely manner once the instruction was received however you contacted us before we were able to do so. We acted in full transparency with the information we had and took instruction from our vendor on how they wished to proceed. I can only apologise if any timescales were given on coming back to you, this has been noted as I do highly appreciate no timescales should have been given by our staff members with how long it will take to come back to yourself as this usually depends on the speed of which the vendors come back to us to confirm availability, discuss a viewing request and in this occasion, to inform us regarding their decision to suspend appointments. Once again, we apologise if we did not meet your expectations on this opportunity but we assure you our actions were all professional and in line with our clients wishes. We wish you well with your ongoing property search. Kind Regards, Emily Kenny Branch Manager

I am very impressed with the service given by Emily Kenny at the Sheffield office. She gave me so much advice when it came to the house buying process and how it all works and although I did end up buying a house through another estate agent I still thought she deserved some recognition.

I let a shop through Simon Blyths in January 2024. They never asked the tenant for a deposit, I am still awaiting a physical and fully signedcopy of a lease over two months after the tenant got the key from Simon Blyth lettingsservice. I paid for their legal drawing up of a lease and neither myself nor my tenant have a copy despite asking several times. They also never carried out an identity check on the tenant, never asked for references and didn't even bother asking for their home address. A shoddy, shoddy and expensive experience. I will never use Simon Blyth lettings service again and hope to warn others of their lazy, rude and unpleasant services.

Lovely team at Simon Blyth - Katie was polite and helpful on our first viewing of the property and with dealing with our offer. Emily was also polite and helpful when our offer was accepted and when we completed the initial paperwork for the AML and ID checks, Emily and Katie were both happy to witness and sign some of our documents for the solicitor and Lauren helped us with some questions we had from our home buyers report, before the solicitor raised initial enquiries.
