Living in Australia and selling a UK property

Living in Australia and selling a property in the UK is no easy fete but Heidi from Simon Blyth in Linley Huddersfield went above and beyond in negotiating the sale of our property. She would always get back to us and keep us updated and with the time difference it is not so easy. Nothing was too much trouble for her including dealing with two challenging solicitor firms on our behalf. We can’t recommend Heidi enough and would definitely deal with her and her team again. She really deserves this 5* review. Thank you again for all your help.

I found Simon Blyth very easy to buy a property from. They were easy to contact and whenever I needed something from the sellers, or needed to pass something on to them (whether it be making an offer or helping speed up the conveyancing process) they were very quick in contacting them and providing me with an update. I mostly spoke and worked with Grace who was very friendly and helpful. She quickly sorted everything needed, provided clarification at the beginning on things I wasn't sure of and made the nail biting moments of purchasing my first home a lot easier and less stressful!

To be brutally honest the one star I have given this poor excuse for an estate agent is one star too many. My brother and I put my mums house on the market at the beginning of the year. Everything was going great with plenty of viewings. However my mum lives in a very desirable area in Holmfirth, so this wasn’t a surprise. Once a buyer had been found that was as far as it went!! Zero communication and false promises all the way to the end….. “Emma is in a meeting, I’ll get her to phone you back once she’s finished her meeting” This was a standard response when I phoned for updates on the sale of my mums house. Two/three weeks later and I never got that call back. This wasn’t a one off either, this happened every time I phoned! Emmas meeting must be very long indeed!! A couple of months ago when I phoned for an update, I was told that the chain had broken further down the line and had happened a couple of weeks ago! Why myself, my brother or my mum weren’t informed of this situation I’ll never know! We have now got to the point (end of August!) where we have taken the house off the market and my elderly mum, (who was moving to Cornwall to live closer to me, so we could look after her in her final years) is now staying in her house because her health is very poor due to the stress of all this. On another note, Blyths recommended Holden Smith Law as good solicitors to use. These were equally incompetent in every respect. I can only recommend that you don’t use either company if you want to sell your house.

We couldn't be happier with the service we received from the SB team! We would highly recommend them as they got us 12 viewings in one day, 6 offers, and it sold for over asking price! We got to know the Holmfirth office quite well whilst selling our property as we always popped in to say hi and check progress. We were always greeted with smiles. Joe did a great job of valuing our house and asking questions to make sure the evaluation was accurate. Grace and Samantha were always checking in with a happy and positive attitude and there was always someone to answer the phone and deal with our questions quickly and efficiently. Emma maintained great communication with us and our buyers throughout the entire process and made sure the solicitors moved quickly. We will certainly be going back to them next time we move!

Let’s be honest, more than a little corrupt but also inept. Organised a viewing of a property and took time of work to travel over an hour to it and the appointment had not been put in. Then had someone come over and was rushed to view because of their poor time management. Also when bidding on a property be aware the process isn’t as fair, open and as transparent as it’s portrayed to be.

Not to be trusted No winners !

Shambolic experience from the staff at the Holmfirth office. After Several attempts to arrange a viewing on a property, staff promised to get back to us with a suitable date and time to view, but never did! We decided after waiting to introduce ourselves to the vendor at his property. He kindly agreed for us to view it. He confirmed that the office hadn’t contacted him about our requests to view? We immediately knew this was the property we wanted to buy. It ticked all the boxes in our buying wish list. We were really excited and proceeded to make an offer. On ringing the office we were told that the property had an offer that was going through. (But the vendor confirmed he had not accepted any offers and it wasn’t too late to submit an offer) This followed a number of lies by staff who were very resistant to us and unhelpful. They did not allow us to progress with our offer. The vendor encouraged us to submit Our offer, but officially, through the office. We put our offer in writing in an email to the office. The whole experience was stressful and emotional, resulting in the vendor taking his property off the market. The agents are now claiming that they introduced us to the vendor, which they didn’t! There is a clear need, in our opinion for estate agents like Simon Blyth’s to be accountable for their actions and regulated by an independent authority. There were No winners In this dreadful experience. Not to be trusted.

72% one star - is that a record!? Absolutely agree with the other reviews - awful firm, hugely regret not reading these first. Extremely poor contact, rushed around to get me to reduce the price before a suspicious offer (that I was serially misinformed about the nature of), I felt that they were working for the buyer rather than me? Absolute waste of time and then they refused to remove a knowingly false advert on Rightmove (Rightmove are removing it). 'Avoid' doesn't even begin to describe it.Repeatedly asked them to engage - they repeatedly ignored! weird!
