Knaresborough office poor service and a bit slap dash

Booked a viewing to see a house and they told the seller I had cancelled the appointment which I obviously hadn't . I turn up to view after driving from Leeds and the seller looks confused and tells me what she has been told but kindly shows me around the property anyway, not sure I would trust this outfit again.

They managed a multi-sale chain very professionally and dealt with a range of complex issues, in an efficient manner, keeping us informed at every stage of the proceedings. Lois, in the York office, was particularly good at reassuring us and taking the trouble to fully understand the circumstance of each party in the chain, enabling the very difficult transactions to be concluded successfully. Highly recommend avoiding Carter Jonas ( York ) we rented out our property with them and the lack of communication from the start was unbelievable. Not returning calls or answering questions sent by email, Didn’t even inform us of the entry date for the tenant ( we found out by accident ) and then when the tenant broke the conditions of the lease by moving additional people into our property without our permission they refused to support us the owners with serving the tenant an eviction notice. Having to now look into Legal action against Carter Jonas for failing to do the job they signed up for….

Carter Jonas are brilliant, they have gone above and beyond to help us get our first proper rented property. They answered all our questions and were really friendly and accommodating. I recommend Carter Jonas to everyone I speak to about moving house because they really were so very helpful. When we were struggling for ID as my partner had sent his driving license off they were ringing to check up on us to see how far we got and all the way till the day of collecting the keys they were patient and supportive unlike other estate agents we tried to go with. The WORST EXPERIENCE EVER! Please avoid using Carter Jonas if you can. I have been using several letting agencies in York, but this is the worst experience that I have ever encountered. They will hold off your deposit and ask you pay for the irrelevant fee after check out. I was FORCED to pay for the painting and redecoration fee that is totally unacceptable.

poor customer service, very disappointed

Recently saw a house I wanted to purchase and the estate agent dealing with me was also the vendor associated with 3 other vendors. I was told that my offer was accepted and received confirmation of this. I was advised by the estate agent (vendor) that she and her husband who showed us around the house really wanted us to purchase the house although they had received a higher cash offer. In such a short time I built a good relationship with the estate agent and a couple of days ago she advised me to send all my paperwork over including ID and mortgage offer along with proof of the deposit to secure the house, which was done. Only now have I called back to discuss if there was anything else they needed and the estate agent I had been speaking to ( the vendor) advised her colleague was dealing with my case now, only to find out from her colleague ( the branch manager) that they had decided to accept someone else's offer, (although mine was guaranteed to be accepted) who had offered more and in cash? But they didn’t have the decency to tell me, what’s more, disappointing is the fact the state agent I was dealing with ( the vendor) advised me when I just called someone else was dealing with my case , I think honesty goes a long way and as I said to the branch manager had she of told me this information her self they had accepted another offer I would have not taken as bad, especially when she guaranteed that It was me they wanted to buy the house. When trying to explain this to the branch manager I found him very patronising in explaining the process with his shouting tone of voice and that the estate agent didn’t have time to call me as “ she was too busy trying to clean her desk before 5 pm for her holiday” My gosh that is some level of customer service. Very disappointed.

We've just exchanged contracts on a house purchase in Settle, arranged through Dacres local branch. They've been extremely helpful throughout our whole house-hunting and purchasing process, managing to fit in viewings when we were up in Settle, sometimes at quite short notice. We'd particularly like to mention Andrew, who showed us round several houses, Tom , who responded to email messages when the office wasn't open, Mel, who we spoke to at the beginning, and who let us peer over her shoulder to see the details of a property, and Julia who passed on her local knowledge during our second viewing of the house we're buying. A thoroughly professional approach from all.

I have just finished renovating a house and was undecided whether to rent out the house and live in my flat, or vice versa. Needing to discuss the various options and costs with a professional agent, I was referred to David Sinclair at Carter Jonas upon personal recommendation. Turns out it was an excellent recommendation! David immediately viewed both of my properties and took the time to discuss with me in detail both my requirements and my situation. He gave thorough, considered advice and made a very careful effort to tailor Carter Jonas's services accordingly. He quickly booked an excellent photographer for one of the properties and the office posted a beautiful advert. Viewings were immediate and by the Monday immediately following the first weekend's viewings, the property was reserved for incoming tenants. David took care to ensure that references were secured as quickly as possible and my communications with him were consistently excellent. David has done a superb job and I shall be very happy to work with him again in the future.

I found the staff at Carter Jonas - York to all be very knowledgeable, curteous and friendly. It’s a stressful time securing all the paperwork and ensuring everything runs smoothly and Lois was brilliant in keeping us updated on how things were progressing - at times, more so than our own estate agents/solicitors. So much so that next time we move it will be with and through Carter Jonas. Another key selling point for them was how knowledgable Keith, the chap who showed us around the property, was. He answered our questions and if he didn’t know the answer he admitted it and then went away and found out for us - very impressive!! All in all a 5-star service and experience.
