Excellent service from painter.

This is a review directly for the painter, Garry Carlyle, who attended our property in Edinburgh to fix paint work in the bathroom. He was friendly, worked efficiently and finished the job to a high standard. He had to return the following day and did so at the time he had told me. Garry made sure I inspected the work before he left so he knew I was happy. Top class service from Garry.

Connor Campbell - Joiner

I have had Conner visit my home twice to deal with door issues. He fixed my front door and wardrobe doors (which weren’t closing) on the first visit and replaced a damaged hall door on the second. Both times, Connor was extremely courteous, explained exactly what he would have to do and completed all jobs to the highest standard. He even hoovered up after himself! He is the kind of joiner you would want in your home. I wouldn’t hesitate to recommend him to others.

We moved into our new home back in September, and the entire sales journey was just amazing from the day we viewed the plot to the day we moved in. Annie went above and beyond every step of the way and we could not have asked for a better experience. Since moving in Nick and Christina have been looking after us and dealing with any issues, which I have to say have only been such minor things. They have both been absolutely amazing and everything has been sorted quickly with no issues. Christina has also been amazing at just checking in to make sure we are ok.The entire process has been outstanding, we could not have asked for a better experience, worlds apart from the experience we have had with our last new build home and developer.Cannot praise everyone at Cala highly enough.

Zero out of five, would not recommend

We reserved a plot at their Horsham, West Sussex location. Throughout the process they continuously harassed us for up dates. I’m unsure why, when each time they had already spoken to our solicitor so knew the latest status and that we didn’t have any extra info.We were days from exchange but on a Tuesday afternoon they told us the process had taken too long and therefore our plot would be remarketed if we didn’t exchange contracts by Wednesday lunchtime, giving us less than 24 hours notice. Whilst we were devastated about this, we understood their position and the delay was caused by our buyer so there was nothing we could do. By Wednesday lunchtime we had not exchanged contracts, but heard nothing from Cala Homes telling us the property was now up for sale again and the plot remained listed as “reserved” on their site. Wednesday evening, their solicitor sent through the documents to our solicitor ready for exchange & completion. Because of this, we fairly assumed they had been bluffing or had a change of heart. On Friday morning, just hours from exchange, they called me to gleefully tell me the plot had been sold to someone else. There were no options available to us other than to pay them more money to reserve a plot for the next model of house up. This left me 5 months pregnant and without a home. I appreciate they are a business and not a charity and their purpose is to make money. But that doesn’t mean they have to do it in such an unprofessional and unethical way. In the end, we purchased a bigger, beautiful home and happily paid an extra £50K to another developer. Save yourself the heartache and do not do business with these unprofessional, morally-bankrupt clowns.

Received a visit today from Connor Campbell, joiner, on behalf of Cala Homes, Jordanhill Service Team, to repair faulty door closing and handles throughout my apartment. He arrived promptly and carried out all the works as discussed with Cala. In addition, he was able to identify some other issues which he also kindly repaired. He was extremely polite and knowledgeable about how I might prevent any further issues arising and how I can resolve things once the 2 year Warranty is over. I am delighted with everything. I’m only giving 5* for the service I…

I’m only giving 5* for the service I received from the sales staff, sales manager and onsite workers. I’d give less for customer care. My journey started with Lynsey and Fraz at the Erskine development and sometimes sales manager Victoria. They were informative and kept me calm through every process. We had a blip with the missives which Fraz and Lynsey sorted quickly with the site manager by working with my solicitor to get them completed in time. I can’t empathise how polite and great the onsite workers are. Very friendly and good to have a chat with. Especially their painter Pete. He was very informative and you can tell he loves his job. Thank you Lynsey and Fraz for making my experience outweigh some of the bad! They went above and beyond and are an asset to the company. I waited to review until our snags etc were complete. We had a few snags outstanding but we were happy to sort ourselves. Happy with the layout of the property and size:)

Eric and Marius visited today to mend the cracks in our wall and repair our front door. We're impressed by the professional and efficient service they provided. They patiently explained the cause of the cracks, and thoroughly inspected the entire place. They fixed the major cracks first, so they could repair the other issues when the filler was drying. I would like to thank all at Cala Homes, (Farrendon Fields) in particular I would like to thank Caroline in the Sales Office, awesome Customer Service, always so helpful and friendly and has helped me throughout the whole process- moving into my dream home, which was a breeze. I felt Caroline always went above and beyond - thank you Caroline. It really has meant a lot.We absolutely love our home and have had very few issues at all (especially as it is a new build property!) We had a few minor problems, within the first couple of weeks of moving in, Jack and Mario went above and beyond to make sure these issues were resolved as soon as possible, all works were completed to a very high standard, it was a pleasure having them around, both were polite and professional, we can’t thank them both enough for all the help. Lisa was excellent

I enquired about purchasing a property in the Jordanhill development. Lisa was the sales consultant who I dealt with and I cannot fault her service. I had 2 appointments with her, the first to see the show flat, then the second was to go onto the building site and see the property I was interested in reserving. Lisa was extremely competent and answered all my questions, making sure to double check anything she wasn't 100% certain about. Nothing was an inconvenience and I really felt like she had my best interests in mind at all times. Ultimately I decided not to go with reserving a property with Cala but that's for other reasons. Would I buy a Cala home again? Not if it was the last house standing.

We purchased a Cala home completing in July 2023. During the sales process the sales team at Shopwyke Lakes initially went above and beyond. We found a house with a great floor plan, ample space, with off street parking and a garage. We managed to secure a good deal with multiple incentives, we just had to complete on our two properties to proceed. Unfortunately due to unavoidable delays with a previous help to buy loan on one of our properties this was delayed by several months after our new home was deemed completed. Several times during this delay we were told by the Cala sales team that there was the possibility of them pulling out off the sale if we delayed any further. This was extremely stressful as we tried to co-ordinate 3 solicitors and navigate the unavoidable delays from the help to buy loan. To note, we were unable to complete until 3 months after the house was finished, and yet the sale proceeded. Nevertheless we completed in July 2023 and moved into our 'dream home'. On a previous site visit we noted that the painting touch ups had been done in a sightly different colour following a formula change by the paint company, resulting in multiple streaked paint areas in all rooms. We were assured that this would be resolved prior to moving in. It was not. Having been left with no option but to move all our furniture in we then had to accommodate the painters returning to repaint the walls. Credit to Cala at this point, they provided us with a £500 John Lewis voucher as a way of apology; unfortunately we still had to clean furniture and floors after no dust sheets were used during the repaint resulting in fine paint spatter. Following this we used the services of a home snagging company to ensure that we were not missing any major snagging issues. This highlighted generic internal snagging issues that the site team were very prompt in fixing. Tom was extremely helpful and kept in contact to ensure that all our internal snagging was fixed in a timely manner. During this snagging report it was noted by the surveyor that there were multiple areas of washed our mortar across all elevations of the house. It was at this point that we highlighted this concerning finding to Cala. They were adamant that there were no concerns with the mortar on the Shopwyke Lakes development (despite previous houses needing a full repoint following seriously flawed mortar results) and they advised us that if we were concerned we should pay for our own surveyor and conduct out own mortar test, which we did. In excess of £1000 later we were presented with results and a surveyors report saying that the two tests they had taken showed significantly poor cement to sand ratios, falling considerably under the NHBC guidelines with the advice that a full repoint of the house is needed. We had multiple areas of crumbling mortar and exposed wall ties which continue to degrade. Again presenting these results to Cala they maintained that there are no concerns with the mortar and they will address the localised 'workmanship' issues. I am told that mortar tests Cala have taken are all within limits - yet I am not allowed to see these results. The subcontractor that Cala assigned to deal with the 'workmanship' issues attended our house and also agreed that a full repoint was necessary to ensure that further issues with the mortar are prevented. Even without these factors the crumbling, cracked mortar and the fact that it can be brushed away with your finger nail indicates something has gone seriously wrong somewhere. So now we have two independent surveyors, Cala's own subcontracted brickmason and seriously flawed mortar results all advising that there are significant mortar consistency issues, yet Cala are adamant they are not following the advice to repoint and continue to deny the presence of a mortar problem. Instead of now enjoying my new home I am left resenting it, the issues it has caused me and the issues I know I will face in the coming years. Would I buy a Cala home again? Not if it was the last house standing. Which it won't be, because the mortar wouldn't stand the test of time.

Amazing customer service - Marius, Eric, Sandra and Alexandra

It has been two years since I have been with Cala. I bought the property at Arlesey Grange, Bedfordshire in 2021. I have been quite happy with the quality and the customer service provided. At times, it was just a matter with being patient but over some time you build that trust with the developer that the issues raised will be fixed. Marius and Eric visited today to replace my garage door, fix a few cracks, nail pops and other minor issues. Unlike my previous experiences with other developers, Marius and Eric quietly did their job and I did not even had to monitor anything. They even went above and beyond and scanned the entire place for any additional issues and fixed it. That's called customer service. Highly Recommend!

My partner and I have had a really enjoyable experience with Cala Homes since buying our first home in September 2023. We absolutely love our home and have had very few issues at all (especially as it is a new build property!)
