TrustpilotAVOID AVOID AVOID
Myself and my partner had the displeasure of renting from Bridgfords for a year. Needless to say it was one of the WORST years of my life. We’d never rented before and had no idea what we were doing, they knew that and took advantage. We were shown a shoe cupboard of an apartment, the rent was around £350-£400 a month for one bedroom apartment with the kitchen and living room being one big open space. At first it seemed great. Finally living alone (we later found out we were paying the same rent as the rest of the building who’s apartments were 3x the size of ours and had someone who came to check the place out from Bridgfords even POINT OUR HOW SMALL OUR APARTMENT WAS COMPARED TO OUR NEIGHBORS!!!). No pets allowed was annoying as we had two small cats but we knew the couple who lived across from us (they moved out not long after we did because of similar issues) and they had a cat... along with half the building... so we didn’t worry or care. Everything was fine until the first inspection of the apartment, I’d stayed awake all night before the viewing to clean (as we’d never done that before so I wanted to make sure it was clean) I fell asleep on the couch at around 8/9am to be woken up by a small blond woman in my apartment (the door was locked..) so I was obviously surprised and confused, the woman gave me attitude claiming she knocked and rang the buzzer. The buzzer is so loud you’d hear it during a hurricane, I immediately knew that was a lie and The walls were paper thin so if she knocked I’d have heard as would the entire building, once done she went to other apartments and knocked.. when no one answered she walked away, didn’t let herself in like she did with us... That was bad enough. Then she took MY KEYS with her and when I ran downstairs and across the car park to ask her if she had my keys she said “no” as I saw them sat on her passenger seat.. I had to go out so I was panicking in a rush because those were the only set of keys we had. I started walking back to the building angry to have her call me back and say “I’ve got them” yes. I know. That was bad enough and already gave me anxiety about anyone and everyone letting themselves into my apartment without my permission or me even being there! Then we asked to move into the apartment downstairs as the previous tenant had just moved. We were given the ok. Great right? Would have been if they didn’t tell us we could move in at the end of the month to them ring/email and asked “can we move now” and have them ignore us until mid way through the month and say “end of this month” this went on for 2 months. 2 months of packing and unpacking all of our belongings in a tiny apartment just so we had clothes to wear. Then Joel began harassing me over the phone/emails, demanding we let people come into our apartment to look around (the apartment we wanted was empty for 3 months but they refused to let us move) so I said no as the apartment was a tip and I would be home alone when they came, I suffer from severe depression and anxiety so you can imagine the amount of stress and worry I felt not only when I would see an email from him or his number ringing my phone. At first he took the no as a no and said okay but the amount of times he’d email/ring about viewings increased as they continued to ignore our requests to move into the bigger apartment. Then one day I got a phone call from Joel, I answer and had him yell at me down the phone for 5 minutes (it felt like an eternity) for not letting people view the apartment, ignoring that they refuse to let us move downstairs and THEN they can show whoever the hell they want. I felt like a child being scolded for drawing on the walls.. I’m 22.. so when he hung up I informed my mum and dad (they worked across the road from Bridgfords) so my mum for obvious reasons was not happy, they both almost ran across the road to see him and when they called him out for how he treat me he went bright red and fumbled over his words.. he has the nerve to act big and tough over the phone but if you confront him in person? Coward. Absolute coward. Fast forward to moving into Apartment 1 (when we moved the landlord put the rent up for the entire building to £450 and added an extra £100 on to the deposit.. it’s too convenient to be a coincidence) and almost immediately we were getting complains about covering out windows... we got complaints because nosey people didn’t like that we covered the windows...(some of the people in that building were just as pathetic and childish as Bridgfords) then when we sorted that complaint we got a letter telling us to leave because we have cats and you’re not allowed pets. They sent us an email with a PICTURE OF OUR CATS IN THE PREVIOUS APARTMENTS WINDOW. So they KNEW we had the cats from the start and still let us move in downstairs... that’s extremely snakey behaviour, any excuse for more money. So skip ahead to moving day and our previous apartment had been rented out to a young woman who smoked WEED IN THE APARTMENT WITH THE WINDOWS OPEN WITH HER FRIENDS ON A FRIDAY NIGHT. You’re not allowed to smoke in there.. never mind doing ILLEGAL DRUGS. So that told us plenty. Then skip ahead again to today (November) we’ve been away from those soul eaters for a few months and I got an email asking for the deposit because of “unpaid rent” we’d had this back and forth about rent for months now, me sending them bank statements of rent being sent on the right days to them ignoring us and coming back a month or so later to try again, I was sent an email today with an attachment of “evidence” as to why they want over £1000 from us... it’s a word document. SOMEONE HAD OPENED A NEW WORD DOCUMENT AND TYPED UP “date-date: unpaid” etc. This is not evidence. This is not proof. Anyone can write a word document, I’ve sent verified bank statements with the date/time sent, amount sent, who it’s sent to and the reference number. They won’t take that as proof but expect me to take a word document as solid evidence that they are entitled to over £1000 from us... they are truly pathetic. Joel is a bully, Alex is manipulative and they condone harassment and targeting. DO NOT TRUST THEM. DO NOT RENT FROM THEM. DO NOT BUY FROM THEM. THEY WILL OVER CHARGE YOU. We now live in a 2 bedroom house for the same rent as a 1 bedroom apartment where you’ll get people complaining that they can’t be nosey. Since we have been here we haven’t been harassed, haven’t had people starring at us through the window, no one has just let themselves into our home. We have never been happier. I 10000% recommend Dawson Estate, when I told Matt how we’d been treated by Bridgfords he was disgusting and confused at there unprofessional behaviour and went out of his way to insure we are fully aware of what’s going on and replies to any questions I have almost immediately. Avoid Bridgfords!!! Get in touch with Dawson Estate!!! They’ll treat you right and respect you not harass and target you!!!The Bridgfords I had the displeasure of dealing with was in Halifax but after looking through over reviews it looks like it’s not just the Halifax branch that needs a reality check and a customer service training course...

TrustpilotGreat service!
I have just completed my house sale through Bridgfords Wakefield and they have been fantastic! It was my third agent and the others had been poor up until then - Richard @ Bridgfords promised me he'd sell and he did. The communication was great right from the start and throughout, and it was worth getting the professional photos done. Sold within a couple of days of being on the market. Thank you Richard and team!

TrustpilotBridgfords- Buxton
My husband and I have bought and sold quite a few properties over the years and this is the first time I have felt impressed enough to write a review. Choosing an estate agent can be tricky and choosing someone you can trust with possibly one of the biggest financial transactions during a lifetime can be quite scary. Thankfully, a recent experience of purchasing a property in the Buxton area has helped change my view of estate agents and their skill sets.I would like to make a special mention of the team that work at the Buxton office of Bridgfords. John Sweeton and Judy Scouler lead a great team and Judy in particular made the recent process of finding and securing a suitable property for my family a really positive experience. Judy was helpful, perpetually positive and demonstrated a superb set of communication skills when delicate negotiations were needed. Her ability to maintain a professional service despite any hurdles she came across was commendable. I like to think that both the seller and I (the buyer) left the purchasing process feeling like we had both gained what we needed to and a bit more. So, well done Judy.I would recommend this particular team as they communicate with you in a timely manner; they keep you updated when necessary and answer all the questions you have as quickly as possible. I would certainly use them again.

Pictures were put up of males ecr I informed ppm management there room number and police but males still live there day and night it's getting bad my misses is scared I have to walk her every were. Were moving soon but this is not on. I should not have to move because police and building people don't do anything. I'm informing you hopefully something can be done soon .he'd been selling drugs and bridgefords refused to help at all. They were not helpful at all they have a duty of care and didn't care at all just about there money .

TrustpilotGreat experience with the Gosforth branch
Great experience with the Gosforth branch. I’d been struggling for almost 6 months with another estate agent to get my flat ready and tenanted. It only took Jennalise and team 2-3 weeks to have the apartment readied and tenanted after taking the keys from the other agent. She was very hands-on, responsive and professional. Thank you so much!

TrustpilotCancelled 2 Hours Before - Didn't Tell me!
I had a viewing booked in Leeds with Bridgfords today, I went to the property 5 minutes early and rang them to let them know I had arrived and asked who I was expecting to meet. A rude man answered the phone and told me my viewing was cancelled and they had text me to let me know. I informed the man I hadn't received a text of cancellation and he insisted I had, I asked him to check the number and the number he gave me didn't have enough digits. Clearly Bridgfords is hiring the brightest bulbs, how long have mobile numbers had the same number of digits for now? Not only did I book time off work to come to view this property but no one thought to double check the number when sending a cancellation text (Which was only 2 hours before the viewing was meant to be anyway). Not to mention the agent didn't even have the keys to the property! Imagine advertising a property and taking viewings with no keys!! Worst "Estate Agents" I've ever dealt with, and will be boycotting all properties through these agents in future.#WasteHisTime2019

TrustpilotVery unsatisfactory experience so far!
Put in an offer on an already vacant flat at the beginning of the week as the property I'm currently in has sold so i need to find somewhere urgently and this fitted the bill perfectly.. Rang them back today to find out why I've not heard anything from them to only find out they still had not submitted my offer to the seller and that they would be doing it today and would get back to me later about the outcome of my offer..surprise surprise i have not heard anything back from them im appalled at their lack of enthusiasm I thought they were ment to be selling properties not sitting on them!! I also mistakenly thought they were a reputable estate agents until I read all the negative reviews on here some with the similar experience I'm currently having with them!!

I have recently moved to Huddersfield from London and Bridgfords was incredible. Sarah has been with me through the whole process and has been really helpful with all my enquiries. Also got back to emails quickly which is great as moving can be stressful. There was a welcoming pack of goodies when I got to the property!! Very satisfied with their customer service.

TrustpilotVery bizarre ethos
My wife and I found a property of interest being marketed by the Washington branch. We were in a very strong position regarding our status as we are actually completing on our current property on the 30th and prepared to move into rented to get the right house moving forward. This was pointed out to the representative who took the phone call. We viewed the property and I must say the young lady who came out was very friendly and professional. It was very clear from both the pictures and the live viewing that the property required a lot of work both inside and out to make it liveable. We exercised due diligence and found that the property next door had been on the market in June 2024 for exactly the same price as the one we had interest in but it had been fully modernised, had an extension and fully landscaped garden. We felt a below asking price was in order taking this information into consideration and made contact again with the Washington office. The offer was put forward and we were told as it was 5 minutes to closing they would contact the vendors Monday and be in touch. Monday came and went with no follow up call. Today I rang back in and spoke to the exact person I’d discussed the offer with and he seemed totally un phased he hadn’t made any contact with an update. I explained the rational behind the offer regarding the house next door and he replied ahhh that house is much smaller. When I pointed out we had the original listing in front of us and it was exactly the same he just said oh and moved on. Again we explained the situation and even intimated we may go up a little. He said he would go back to the vendors and call me back. Well would you believe it still no call back. I’m really now not surprised after reading the rest of the reviews on here but I do hope someone of a higher level reads this and maybe educates this chap on the art of selling and negotiating. Right now he’s more sales prevention and a poor representative for front of house sales. We will move on and look elsewhere.

TrustpilotAvoid like the plague!
I recently bought my first house with my Wife, and as they were the vendor, I inevitably had to deal with Bridgfords in MACCLESFIELD; firstly making the offer for the property and secondly, discussing the outcome of a survey we'd had carried out on the property. As with most businesses, the entire place is let down by one person, and in this case, it was James. Unaware that we knew the seller of the property in person, he made continuous unfounded claims and made decisions on behalf of the seller, which we naturally questioned. Of course, the seller knew nothing of what we'd been told and asked that we deal directly with him going forwards, which we did. His attitude during phone calls to both Me and my Wife were condescending to say the least and towards the conclusion of the sale, I simply refused to deal with him again. On completion, even the keys were handed to us by the seller himself. I won't be dealing with this place again as a buyer or a seller and I'd think carefully about allowing them to act on your behalf, especially when it's managed by somebody like him. To say that the entire experience of buying our first house was ruined would be an over exaggeration, but dealing with Bridgfords definitely didn't help. Avoid!

TrustpilotScheming, conniving people
They were nice enough when I wanted to rent a property. Not so nice at the end of my tenancy when they withheld my ENTIRE deposit without providing any breakdown of costs, reasoning and ignored all my requests. I had to make a claim through the My Deposits scheme who eventually recovered most of my deposit back. Company were useless, unhelpful, rude and trying to take advantage of a young girl living by herself. Well you made a bad choice because I got back what was mine, no thanks to you, and will NEVER rent or buy through yourselves again.

TrustpilotNot even worth one star
Not even worth one star. I am the landlord and I received the worst service I've ever experiences. If you want to be ignored for weeks and lose money, use their service. I was holding off at giving this review hoping that things will improve, but after weeks of chasing my emails were falling on the deaf ears. First of all, accounts either too busy or too incompetent to deal with basic request, not willing to investigate any repair issues charges, the companies they are using to fix the property are doing botched jobs, resulting in hundreds of pounds loses. Sheer irresponsibility and lack of professionalism, unwillingness to help or resolve any problems leaves you humiliated as a customer, I would go quietly if I wasn't paying any money, but since I'm being charged EACH MONTH for the service which I COULD DO MYSELF, I think I deserve to say something! I really hope I can close my account as soon as possible because I'm really done with being neglected. Can I just ask, how hard is it to reply to an email? Be prepared to wait a week, of FOUR in my case. Horrible, caused huge distress and I really hope your management take note of all the negative response EVERYWHERE and do something about it. Lettings agency on the other hand in Swinton on the other hand is lovely and Hannah Smith was particularly help full, than her for that.

TrustpilotThis company is a disgrace and I can’t…
This company is a disgrace and I can’t warn people enough to steer clear of them and never give them your business! I paid 6 months rent upfront for a property in Buckshaw Village, Chorley. After 5 months at the propert I was told by the branch manager AMY WARD that I will need to move out due to the landlady needing to move back in, she clearly told me over the phone that the landlady was happy for me too move out early, my girlfriend at the time was heavily pregnant and due to give birth so I was not in a position to wait around I contacted Bridgfords Preston and clearly stated I would be exiting the property early and informed them of the exact date the property would be empty. I managed to find another property, paid another 6 months upfront, completed all the necessary paperwork and move myself and my girlfriend in before our baby girl arrived, once I was moved in and our baby girl was settled I contacted AMY WARD to ask about the overpaid rent and was told that the landlady was not prepared to allow me to exit the lease early, and I will not be getting my months rent back, £550 a considerable amount for a new family to just give away allong with the 6 months rent and fees that come with moving into another property, despite AMY WARD telling me over the phone (a call that despite being told was recorded, actually was not) she had already agreed. I now find myself £550 down, given to a landlady straight out of the pocket of my new family, and when I said I would contact the landlady myself I was told by AMY WARD that she will contact her leagal team…Bridgfords Preston is the worst, most disgusting, heartless, unethical company I have ever hand the displeasure of dealing with and AMY WARD has lied on numerous occasions about what the landlady said and wether the calls between myself and Bridgfords Preston are recorded. Myself and my new family and now £550 out of pocket while AMY WARD continues to defend and protect the landlady from returning my money after.

TrustpilotI was tenant for 8 years
I was tenant for 8 years, problems with communication, leaking roof repaired after 6 months, need it to call every 2 weeks to have an answer that "we will contact landlord, team or anyone else in the next 1 hour". Yeah 6 months water was leaking on my head. The best part is that something like that is with everything. Now I'm waiting for my deposit after when I moved out. There is barely any communication, no confirmation and very bad service even at the end of my tenancy. If you like problems and bad service you can do the business with Bridgfords. If you like good service and nice people you need to look anywhere else.

TrustpilotMortgage adviser at Halifax branch
Lee the mortgage adviser at the Halifax West Yorkshire branch is amazing. I was trying to get my property re-mortgaged and as this was the first time I’d gone through it I was a bit nervous to say the least. The property in question was my dads who had passed away. Lee was brilliant, I did really know what I was doing and I had spoken to many different mortgage advisers. After speaking with them I just through the others just wanted my money but Lee was different. He spent time explaining everything to me and was always there if I needed him. Was hard to get him on the phone but he would email back as soon as he could. He did everything right for me and I highly recommend him. I will be going back to him once my term has come to an end, every time.

good at getting you to sign the dotted line to sell your property, started off viewings turning up with no bookings, dealing with different staff members, delay in reply’s and emails sometimes ignoring them all together. we sold after 3 days to a buyer who was known to them (previous employee). only to find out that she been informed of a new property viewed it and offer accepted less than 24hrs of going on Rightmove. Went on Rightmove on the 16th we received an email midday on 17th to inform us she pulled out. now going with a different agent hopefully a trusted one
