Extremely poor experience with Foxtons

Extremely poor experience with Foxtons. We were left without proper cooking facilities for 25 days, which had a major impact on our daily life and forced us to spend extra money on food. A functioning cooker is a basic part of any home, yet this was not handled with the urgency it deserved.

Highly Recommend! I've recently started renting from Foxtons. They are both the letting agent and the managing agent. I have never paid so much for such a bad service. None of the extractor fans work, my heating doesnt work, the curtain rods are bent and now one has fallen off & luckily no one got hurt because they have taken so long to resolve the issues. I'm wondering is this even legal?

As a landlord (don't hate me!) paying for a managed service, they tried to charge me £90 + vat to fix a meter door with two cable ties. This is typical, and I have to chase them repeatedly for everything. My tenants and I deserve better.

Without Alan Groom, it's not an exaggeration to say that we never would have exchanged contracts. Going above and beyond the call of duty was his clear modus operandi and my partner and I could not be more grateful. He was able to explain the jargon associated with purchasing property and his advice was both insightful and indespensible. As first time buyers, it was imperative that we worked alongside somebody that we could trust, and we got just that in Alan and Foxtons by extension. He remained with us from initial viewings, ultimately tailoring property suggestions based on a growing understanding of what we wanted and kept a clear line of communication throughout the process. He recommended both a reliable mortgage broker and an effective law firm from which we found our solicitor. Alan made certain that we were updated on what each stage meant and what the next steps looked like. As a result, we never felt drowed or overwhelmed as we knew we had a potent support in place. As a personal point, both myself and my partner are autistic and so the process of purchasing our first property was a nightmarish prospect with how cumbersome and unclear the process can be. That I can confidently say that I owe both Alan and Foxtons a great deal should be indicative of the quality of support they provided.

I could not be more pleased with the service received from all at Foxtons, from our first meeting, photography, viewings and through to exchange the contact levels and focus on us have been second to none. We originally listed with another agent for 12 weeks and had 4 viewings and no offers in this time. I was extremely impressed with Alan who proactively sought a prospective buyer. I had the pleasure of working with Oscar Pearson and Louis Wingent at Foxtons. I enquired them online and they were extremely helpful and very very supportive. I didn’t even had to visit them. The whole process of putting an offer on a house was seamless, thanks to these two. For someone who is renting for the first time, the process can seem extensive but with people like Louis and especially Oscar, it becomes quite simple. Updated 04 Dec’23 2200 Today I have been told by Foxtons that they have kept 75% of the rent for the first month, and crediting the 25% to my account….this when I clearly told them a month ago that I do not need their Tenant Management services…also no one even cares to give me a call to tell me that’s what they plan to do with my money as if it’s their own money…appalling service….feeling slightly helpless as they get my rent currently…have now decided to involve Solicitor, and also lodge a formal complaint to THE PROPERTY OMBUDSMAN. I am hoping they can help me here, will keep you all posted. @Sophie I don’t think you take complaints seriously, there is an email thread going on from last 5 weeks, and all I do daily is send you a chaser and give you guys a call to get things moving….no one has given me any call this far….this is how you operate I am afraid….still I have fwd’d you the whole email thread. The very fact that you are responding to a 1* review after 8 days explains the level of your service. *************** Updated 30 Nov'23 after a call with Foxtons at 1545: Been 4.5 weeks, still waiting for Foxtons to complete all formalities. I am having to keep calling them everyday, to get things moving, and when you call them the arrogance on display with some of the agents is hard to believe. Without a call, you wouldn't get email responses. Stay away for any tenancy management, that would be my humble advise. ******* First Review 26 Nov’23 Sale of the property was handled by Foxtons, which I would say went alright. But they manage the tenancy too, and this review is specifically on transition from Sales team to Tenancy Management team, and the delays to handover the property to the new owner (me). Been 3.5 weeks after completion, and I have chased them at least 15 times (on phone & email) but it is yet to be handed over to me (new owner). I was very clear from the outset that I don't require the tenancy management services at the cost they were offering, so dont quite understand the reason for such a long delay in handing over the property, especially when they dealt with the sale so should have warmed up the tenancy management team that this is coming and been proactive rather than responding to constant chasers. As it stands today I still don't have any view on when this would be handed over.

I would strongly advise against renting through Foxtons. After moving out, they deducted £800 from our deposit. We had clear evidence to dispute the deductions and were told to raise our concerns via the MyFoxtons portal, which the landlord would review. We did exactly that and followed up multiple times, only to be ignored by the Landlord for over six months. Eventually, the landlord rejected our claim, not because of the evidence, but on the grounds that we hadn’t raised a formal dispute within 90 days. At no point did Foxtons inform us that this extra step was necessary. It's especially hypocritical considering the landlord took more than double that time to respond at all. Foxtons failed to provide clear guidance, did not advocate for us as tenants, and showed little regard for fairness or transparency. This experience has been extremely frustrating and costly.
