Our experience with Foxtons has been Disappointing and Unfair

Our experience with Foxtons has been appalling. We dealt with Oram Ohene-Djen, our letting negotiator, who from the very beginning was unhelpful, dismissive, and often gaslighting us whenever we raised concerns. Instead of supporting us, he downplayed delays, avoided giving clear answers, and left us constantly uncertain.

We recently bought a property through Foxtons. While we proceeded with the purchase because the home fit our specific needs, the experience with the agency itself was far from ideal. The customer management felt transactional and overly pushy, lacking the professional courtesy I expect when making such a significant purchase. The aggressive approach made the process unnecessarily stressful. Although we bought the property, I would not choose to engage with Foxtons again to buy or sell due to the poor quality of service. The added rating of 3 is for a somewhat better experience with another Foxton team in the process.

We recently sold our property after it had been on the market for quite some time. In my view, the UK property-selling process truly needs modernization. While the experience is relatively straightforward for buyers, it can be extremely challenging for sellers, until a deposit is paid, buyers can withdraw at any stage, which feels quite unfair. Despite these challenges, I would like to express my sincere appreciation to Francis and Joe for their outstanding support. Francis, in particular, was consistently positive, patient, and encouraging throughout the entire process. His professionalism and reassuring attitude made a difficult situation much easier to navigate. Now that everything is finally settled, I can genuinely say thank you. I am very grateful for all their help.

Landlords don’t be fooled by the nice offices and friendly staff. They are ruthless. They take 13 percent + VAT for rent collection only and lock you in for 5 years. It’s not the tenants we need protecting from. It’s the ruthless agents.

Terrible experience

Non-existent communication. Viewings done by an unprepared team: didn't know level of service charge, exposure, if the appliances were new or not, size of the flat or rooms. One claimed we had replaced the kitchen (we hadn't), another that the Hue Lights we installed were staying in the flat for the buyer (we never said that).

They were OK during our tenancy, mostly things were sorted when we notified them of issues. However, on ending our tenancy we have struggled to get some of our deposit back and we have been waiting for 6 months. When we moved into the property it had barely been cleaned and there had definitely not been a professional cleaner in the house. When we moved out, there’s a choice to use Foxton’s cleaner or choose one yourself - Foxton’s is nearly double the price and I doubt they actually have a cleaner go in so we chose another cleaner who spent 8 hours at the property and it was spotless. We were then charged a cleaning fee anyway which we contested and were told if we provided evidence a professional cleaner had been there we’d get the money back. We did so in May and as yet have not received the money back. We are told every time they are waiting for the landlord’s response - we have to chase them for information and never proactively get any communication from them. Unfortunately the deposit protection scheme only runs until 3 months after you move out so essentially we are never going to back our money back and Foxton’s have shown no concern about that. We have made a formal complaint which has done absolutely nothing. So if you want a mediocre estate agent during your tenancy who will withhold your deposit when you leave then this is the estate agent for you.

Terrible service. Very disappointed. I found a short let property on their portal myself, the agent (Amir Abbasian) kept suggesting either awful properties, or ones over my budget. They were very quick to call back and close the deal but once the deal was made, I never once was able to speak directly to my agent Olivia Taylor, or anyone from Foxtons again. Repeated messages and email queries went unanswered. Every two weeks a new person would be in touch and all my queries would be ignored. The property was nice and in good condition but i paid Foxtons 350 pounds for the end of tenancy clean, and was slapped with a 600 pound cleaning claim on my deposit. The property was never cleaned and my landlord claimed the charges from my deposit. at least a dozen emails later, I still don't have a protection document number for my deposit. I was told my deposit was protected. I ws told I would be provided an inventory upon moving in. I was told the place would be cleaned at the end of my tenancy, for which i paid. None of the above happened. Still waiting for part of my deposit to be returned, even though they said it was transferred three weeks ago and should take 5 to 7 days to be credited. I've settled the dispute with my landlord now, even though it is extortion, but it seems even he was being cheated by Foxtons.

They said the developer won't pay me back. If you are not professional and you don know which developer you need to work why did you put us in the dirty game? Katie Fairchild is an absolute help. She personally took care of our requirement for getting the right accommodation and has proactively reached out to us everyday with all the permutations and combinations to work out for us in the world of scarcity, it felt like she was serious with her job and understands the feeling of not having a permanent home. This is what I was expecting from Someone to help us since we are new and first timers here and she felt like a friend and family to us. A huge thanks to Jazz, will not be sitting in my first and brand new home to type down this review without her. Jazz has demonstrated excellent customer service and what I learnt from her is to never give up. I went through a really lengthy and painful time to purchase my first home and a deal that broke down at the end (with another agency), during this time Jazz has checked in regularly and always kept me posted to let me know there are other options to consider as a backup plan - which turned out to be the key for me to finally nail this deal in a snap. Would highly recommend to anyone who are looking to buy or sell, great agency with a lot of resources, professional agents, amazing customer service and most importantly, the first hand information of the new properties that come onto the market.

Michael Owen and his team ensured that everything proceeded smoothly. Manu Khanna was absolutely amazing. Very dedicated, knowledgeable and hard working. He oversaw everything and handled everything professionally and calmly. He went above and beyond and worked tirelessly with all involved to resolve any issues that came up. For me what made it different is that they recognised that our property was unique in its design and features and therefore achieving a higher sale price was possible. I feel that the experience was negative

I put my flat up for sale with my Foxtons, I was going to go with another agent but they were very pushy and said how they managed to sell better than anyone so I went with them. I was under the impression my flat would go straight up but after I signed the contract it took them 2 weeks to take photos and put them up, in the meantime they put up a video of the flat from a mid-term inspection where it looked absolutely disgusting. I had never seen this video and I don't see why it would be allowed to be put up without my permission, I asked for it to be removed, they didn't and it took them nearly the 2 weeks to remove it. The photos they took were adequate but not particularly great, I was pretty disappointed. I felt that the price was extremely over inflated (like all their prices) but respected they knew better than me, but when every single person gave feedback that it was way overpriced and no one showed any interest I became quite embarrassed. I found it very hard to contact my sales agent and just gave up most times after leaving numerous messages. I heard from my agent 10 times more before I signed with them than I did during my contract. When I gave notice 28 days before the end after having no interest, I was reminded how they are the number one and warned that going to another agent would not solve the issue. Their commission is so much more than everyone else but I feel my experience with their sales agent was extremely poor and I can't believe I had no interest in my nice flat. I feel I made a mistake going with them and would caution anyone thinking of them. Also I rented my flat with them for nearly 2 decades and my last tenant emailed them notice which they said they did not receive until the next day so they extended the end date to one day beyond the end of the month, they then charged me a management fee of £9 for the one day (and she paid £1 something rent for that one day). I will never rent with them again due to the complete lack of transparency with regards to money. (As for the excuse that the housing market is quiet I put my other property up for sale at the same time and it sold within 2 weeks, but then again the photos were really good and the price was reasonable).

Do not rent through Foxtons

If you are a renter, please do not use Foxtons. They are a scammy horrible company that only serves the interests of the landlord. They rented us an overpriced disgusting dump by using old out-of-date photos in the rental ad, and locked us into an abusively restrictive contract that made it impossible to leave the horrible dump that ruined my mental health. Do yourself a favour and stay away from these money hungry scammers.
