I'm afraid you have misunderstood the auction process. We absolutely do not keep the deposit money ourselves. As a buyer of an auction property you pay a 10% deposit upon exchange of contracts which contributes towards the purchase price and goes directly to the seller's solicitor.
The property you were interested in had a guide price of £165,000 and a reserve price of £180,000. The reserve price was set by our seller as the minimum they would accept and was only disclosed after it didn't sell on auction day. This is common auction practice. The seller gave us additional time to secure a buyer. To purchase this property a buyer would need to pay £18,000 as the deposit (10% of the total purchase price) plus our fees - this is the £19,000 you refer to.
I understand our team have been in regular contact with you regarding this property and the monies involved. I'm sorry you were unsuccessful with your purchase.

Having never sold a property through auction before and having acquired the property via a bereavement, on the whole the experience was somewhat disappointing and frustrating at times. As a total novice, on more than one occasion i had made assumptions only to discover later that these were incorrect. It was only in the last 3 weeks of a 3 month process when Corby Demitriou stepped in, that i finally felt confident that i was dealing with someone who genuinely showed real empathy and really provided the level of personal support and interaction that i feel had been sadly lacking before. A very positive experience generally, the pre sales team, (Matt) was really on the ball and got everything lined up for the auction. Very professional. Post auction Corby did a fantastic job keeping on top of two sets of solicitors who were the worst I have ever dealt with. Without her and Matt this would not be a 5 star review.I recommend the auction process for people like us who were selling a property we didn't live in and wanted to off load. Even if the price is lower the buyer pays the fees and there's more certainly at the fall of the hammer. I will certainly look to buy the next property at auction and selling I can recommend SDL
