I had a very good experience with Cheffins, our property sold very quickly and the staff were helpful and courteous. Richard, who dealt with us was very friendly and his advice was professional and well considered, he even came back on a sunny day to take an external photo for the details as it was dull and overcast when the rest of the photos were taken. They seem to be in touch with the local area and the marketplace in general, their services were very professional and based on my experience, I would recommend them.

When you're relocating to another country, the most important thing is to find a nice place to live and someone you can confide in helping you achieve that goal. I had the dubious honour of buying the house that cheffins had on their books for the longest time, which it has to be said is something two other estate agents failed sell before it ended up with Cheffins. Aside from a slight hiccup half-way through the buying process (which to be fair took 18 months) when the person we were dealing with left the company, they were a pleasure to deal with and kept in contact throughout. They were always willing to send someone over to let us view the house, which we did many times over that year and a half. This was a difficult purchase for many reasons entirely unrelated to the estate agent, and they dealt with it efficiently and with good humour throughout the buying process.

As a letting agent, I have had a terrible experience that I hope no one else has to go through. The last 3.5 years have been awful for me and my children. I was left with no heating or hot water in December 2021 for 3 weeks until it was finally fixed. I then told the agent I had rodents in the property, which took six weeks to finally sort out, having found a dead rat under the kitchen cupboard at this point. I have raised issue after issue which on average are left for 5 months until fixed. My property is not maintained at all, everything is falling apart and I am sure it doesn't even meet regulations (currently getting legal advice on this). The gas pipes were undersized for the property so it failed the gas safety check but oddly another plumber had come in every year prior and passed the gas safety check until one time a genuine plumber came over and said he had reported this issue 3 years ago when doing work in the property and told the letting agent this issue needs to be sorted asap before it can pass the gas safety check, but the work was never done and it passed by the another plumber. The fuse box was also changed following concerns from an electrician it was not up to standards and could have been dangerous if left. The ceiling fell down in two places, which again was something I told them would happen weeks prior as it was dipping down more each day... luckily it missed my son the morning it all fell down right next to him. The only thing they seem to stick to is completing their property inspection visits every 6 months for the landlord, but as a tenant you are treated poorly. Every contractor leaves the house in a mess, I have come home to mud over my floors, dirt in my sink, paint split on my home decorative items, holes made in the wall. I think the contractors they employ view rental properties as a tick box exercise rather than having respect that it is someone's family home. The letting agent doesn't enforce these standards either. I have privately rented properties in this area with other letting agents and this is by far the worst experience I have ever had. With rental prices so high in the area at the current time, I cant afford to move, but I will be at the first opportunity. Make sure you keep everything, as I have done, all emails and messages, make sure you speak with citizens advice and take legal action where necessary or just save yourself constant stress by not renting via Cheffins. I am currently being invoiced for a call out charge where the contractor left my shower not working but somehow him coming back to fix what he broke is my issue. Fun times ahead.
