Tom Backlog, the branch manager of Hastings, London Bridge did a fantastic job of selling my flat which was not the easiest of sales. He knows the area backwards and was very reassuring all through, gave me very thoughtful advice, and as I was unable to come to the property at all due to shielding from the corona virus he stepped in to go way beyond his brief to help with necessary tasks when I was absent. His colleague Lee McDermott was assiduous in following through the negotiations with huge energy and altogether I thought the process was handled brilliantly on my behalf. Lee McDermott found a buyer for my flat in just over a couple of weeks. Lee was the only agent who could see the potential for a good price. My zone 2, one bedroom flat was a former Council property and Lee saw beyond the common prejudices against local authority stock and made an excellent job of promoting the qualities it had to offer. The buyer needed an unusually long completion period but Lee steered us smoothly and calmly to the finish line. He clearly has a great deal of experience and insight in this field and is a good communicator. Personally, I preferred minimal contact so Lee could just get on with the job and he certainly did get the job done. Consequently, I got £385,000 for my 50m2, ground-floor flat. A very good price in straitened times. Well done, Lee.

Incompetent and unprofessional. Reported Lee McDermott to the The Property Ombudsman after a formal complaint to branch manager Thomas Backlog went no where. Thankfully, as The Property Ombudsman mediated the complaint case, I was able to recuperate the incurred solicitors costs from Hastings International as a result of the botched property purchase. Never again.

Closed on my first buy when dealing with Lee McDermot. Even though Lee was working as agent for the seller, he was very helpful with all queries as well as accomodating my many requests to snag and enter the flat. In doing business you want someone who is reliable and knows that time is money, qualities that Lee has and hence takes the hassle (as much as he can) from the procees. Tons of knowledge and experience he won't disappoint. I would recommend him to anyone.

Vendors beware that any offers this agent presents you are rigorous

re: Hastings Rotherhithe.Hmm. Where to begin.Here are some of the issues we experienced with Hastings as would-be buyers:1. Several offers we made on a property never went through a formal process - at no point did Hastings ask us for a mortgage-agreed-in-principle, nor ask us to complete any other documentation (as is standard) to formalise those offers. If I was a seller, I'd be wary that any offers this agent brings you are rigorous.2. The communication from this office was consistently very poor.Some examples include:- Being 40 mins late to a second viewing (due to one agent not communicating that viewing appointment to another). No apologies given.- Not being able to get us a viewing appointment for a property they currently have listed (that we were interested in) for more than two weekends because they can't 'get permission from current tenants' to access it (still no update on that one)- After putting bids on a property we were interested in, my husband and I consistently had to chase these agents for more than a week to get an update on the latest offer that had been made.This culminated in a property we were interested in being sold on Rightmove while we had an offer on it outstanding that we believed to be the highest on the table (apparently it wasn't, because one of the agents told us the wrong figure to beat over the phone).We noticed that the property was 'under offer' on RM a week after we put our supposed 'highest' offer forward, that the agent had said he would take to to the vendor and respond to us with. There was radio silence after this for a week, until we noticed that the property had been listed as under offer on Rightmove!When I phoned the agent for an update (I didn't tell him I'd seen the under offer notification) he wasn't forthcoming about the status of the sale throughout the call, and pretended he wasn't sure what the latest was as he'd been 'away for the long weekend.' Hmm.As a final note, I'll add that there doesn't seem to be any big-picture thinking with these guys. Both my husband and I are chain-free buyers in a particular buying bracket, who Hastings could have easily converted into sales prospects on future properties. As it stands, we have found dealing with this agent so exasperating that a) we were eventually turned off the property we were very interested in and would have offered higher on, and b) are now actually quite pleased to not have to deal with this agent through the post-sale process.Avoid.
