TrustpilotThe appointment felt dodgy
The appointment felt dodgy! Firstly, we messaged someone on spare room who looked like he was a private landlord. We were told to come to an address which we thought was the property only to find that this was a very large agency. The agent that was dealing with us was super late, during the appointment I don't really feel that our needs were listened to. We were told to pay a fee upfront to be able to view a property, which I felt uncomfortable with (considering the poor customer service up until this point and the fact the agent had the interpersonal skills of a fish) I just felt pressured into making a decision. Overall, the interaction was terrible and the whole vibe and message of the appointment came across as we don't really care as long as you give us your money and cram yourself into this room. The appointment would have felt a lot different if it was set up differently, and that I wasn't being given the hard sell. Ultimately, some ideas of the flexibility of moving within your contract sounds good if you didn't like your original choice in residence. But ultimately, it feels like I would be herded into a place that I was not overly keen on and something that other reviews have highlighted doesn't really think about what makes for a good living arrangement i.e. communal living space and a bedroom that is big enough for your needs. Overall, I wouldn't want to sign with them.

I would first like to commend Anu, for her outstanding services. She is the first point of call at City Rooms, and she is always polite and helpful on the phone. She is the perfect go between, for connecting you with the agents, aswell as providing the necessary information required whilst they are unavailable.

TrustpilotDo you want some good service for once?
I've been in London for about 4 months now, with 2 different agencies, the first one horrible (London accomodation4u), and the second (City Rooms), excellent. It's fast, cheap and most importantly; it can be trusted. Everything on the contract is at it has to be, very clear and if you respect the contract, they respect you. If you need something, they are constantly exchanging mails with you so you never be left in a difficult situation.I personally have been very lucky meeting Jonas, one of their agents, very friendly, and always willing to help!Hope I've helped you, I have to say that the first agency was very, very, very bad, so that's why I appreciate so much having a good service!I would recommend City Rooms to anyone who is done with vulgar agencies and are searching for a more professional approach.

Adrian came in our flat in order to take care of one of the rooms that was empty. After telling him, that I was cold in my room as it was not working properly, he gave me a hand with the radiator in my room and fixed it right away. After cleaning very well the spaces where he worked, he took some photos of the kitchen and bathroom and very friendly gave me some other advices about London and how to find jobs. I'm really glad CityRooms have such employees who do more than their job and that are very friendly.Excellent treatment and I made a new friend.Thank you for your service and professionalism City Rooms and Adrian.

This review is to be thankful to Jafar for everything that he has made for us. At the beginning, we had several problems with the agency and with the previous agent, but once we met Jafar, everything changed. He was answering every question in every time of the day. He is an agent who really take care about every problem of his customers. He was taking care before, during and after the problems were sort it.City room is not the cheapest way to find a place to live in London, but if you are lucky finding one agent as Jafar, really worth it.

TrustpilotThey Should Be Done For Fraud
How this agency is able to continue its business is beyond me. If you are currently hunting for a place to live, and are considering a property owned by this company, do yourself a favour - CUT ALL CONTACT IMMEDIATELY!!Their M.O is simple - advertise a decent looking property to attract interest, say it has been taken (if it ever existed at all), and invite you in for a "chat" at their office. Said chat consists of sitting with one of their letting agents (if you can even call them that) and going through the list of utter s**t holes they have on their system - something you are perfectly capable of doing at home. Then they will ask you to pay a holding fee - BEFORE YOU HAVE EVEN SEEN THE PROPERTY! I have the wits not to do this, but reading other reviews, it is heartbreaking to see people handed this money over only to either not see it come back, or find out what they have put money down for can only be described as a crack den. How they can get away with that is beyond me.Me and my partner were unfortunate enough to meet one of their so-called agents, and arranged a viewing, only for the guy not to show. We called him, and he explained (lied) that he was in the office and someone was putting an offer on the property, and that we "should have paid the holding fee".No courtesy call to say he wasn't coming? And it was utter bulls**t because the viewing was at 10am - their offices open at 10am. So these made-up people just so happened to be at the office at that EXACT time, putting an offer on that EXACT property? Not to mention he should be on his way to the property to show it to us, not in the office? Then trying to make out WE did something wrong by not paying any money. Okay mate. 10 points for trying...After going through hell with agencies, me and my partner are still on the look out. Hilariously, I got in contact with someone on a property share website who I presumed to be either a landlord or tenant. He replies inviting me in for a "chat" and gave the address to his office - wouldn't you know it, it's these guys.No. Thank. You. It angered me that these people are still in business.TO ALL POTENTIAL TENANTS - Their properties are disgusting, they want you to pay money before viewing the property, will feed you lies, and won't show up to viewings. The "chat" is looking at their computer screen with a dishonest fraudster in a cheap suit.As for the 'agents', I have no idea how you sleep at night, and am more baffled as to how you haven't been shut down by the authorities. Karma always finds a way, and it really won't surprise me if there comes a day that you're in the news either because you are facing a huge lawsuit, or because a disgruntled tenant with nothing to lose decided to pay your office a visit. You should be ashamed.

Hi Tom, It is greatly unfortunate to read your comments. The holding deposit is a fee you pay so that we reserve the room for you. City Rooms has 50+ letting agents, which means rooms are rented FAST. There is no issue with you choosing not to pay the holding deposit, however, this means that another agent is free to rent that room out meanwhile. Please feel free to email us at cs@cityrooms.com if you wish to discuss this further.

GoogleAbsolutely unreliable agency, no assistance service, total lack of collaboration. They gave us a property in an unacceptable state of maintenance and hygiene at an exorbitant price, showing photographs on the website that did not correspond to the places. All our requests for intervention were in vain and nothing was done. The contract ended about a month ago and despite numerous requests we are still waiting for the deposit to be returned to us! GoogleToo bad I can't put a minus one. Profiters to the core, especially with the Italians. The photos show impeccable rooms, but the rooms and apartments are in such conditions that the hygiene office is called! The so-called weekly cleanings included are superficial, I personally found a closet of so-called linen changes covered in what I could only describe as mould, cobwebs and dust. If this wasn't enough, the deposit comes back weeks after we were forced to go in person to their offices to collect the office keys that had changed location, something they hadn't mentioned at all in the emails discussing the modalities of the end of the contract. Real scammers, ready to tell any lie to get customers. Stay away!!!!

Dear Valentina,
We are sorry that your experience was not in line with your expectations.
Based on your statements it would appear that there is a misunderstanding regarding the role of Cityrooms. Cityrooms rents rooms on a long-term basis. By contract we provide the furniture and the bed, but we do not provide sheets. Regarding the keys we ask all tenants to return the keys to the same office where they collected them. We recently moved to another location which is 5 minutes away from the previous one. The new address was clearly represented in the old location, on our website and we forwarded an email to all our customers. The deposit is returned, as required by English law, within 20 working days.

I would highly recommend you do NOT use City Rooms. I was completely mis-sold a room! The photos and description are nothing like the reality. I was persuaded to pay an upfront holding fee of £300 without seeing the room, as he assured me that it would soon go and I would not be able to find another within my price range. I was assured that I could receive this deposit back if I don’t like the room. That obviously wasn’t their case! Upon viewing, the room and rest of the house looked nothing like the photos. The place was filthy! Even though I’d been informed that a weekly cleaner visited. The agent had also lied about how many people were living in the house. Since then, I have been passed from pillar to post in trying to get my money back. We finally agreed on an amount to be returned to me, then they even underpaid me here!! With no word since. Don’t believe a single thing that any of the agents, including management, say!

TrustpilotLiars
I have been living for a week in a room provided by City Rooms...So far my experience was awful. First I had to pay an admin fee that my flatmates and the ex-tenant whose lease I took over didn't have to pay. Then I waited for an hour just to be attended when I went to pick up the keys and I couldn't afford wasting all that time since I had so many things to do that day regarding the moving. When I got into the room, it was clean but the couch was missing. That couch was there already when the tenant before me got there and it would have been normal for it to remain there since that's what I have seen in the pictures as well and at the viewing. They pointed out to me the couch is missing so that obviously means that they were aware of the existence of the couch but then they went on saying that the room is not provided with a couch and they have no record of a couch - whaaat? They also accused my flatmates for having taken it but when I asked the flatmates if they know anything they confirmed they saw the agency taking it. So they are lying to my face and I can't even get a straight answer...I have been waiting for a week now for a confirmation and nobody is telling me anything. I really hope they can truly rectify this situation and finally have a customer that leaves a trustworthy good review.

TrustpilotA Rip-Off - fraudulent deposit scheme, actual room was stink! Avoid City Rooms!!
Learn from my mistake - DO NOT PAY them NOTHING until you see the actual room in person! THEY WILL take your deposit, and then not refund it if you don't like the room seems to be part their business model. 10/10 times you won't like the room you see because it wont match the pictures. 1) They initially refused to show me the actual room until I paid a 'holding deposit' - I did not want to book the room so that it's actually held for me, I just wanted to just to see it. they will use the line, "rooms go quickly and it will be gone if you don't pay now" - do not fall for that trick. They will say anything to get an insanely high non-refundable (which they don't tell you upfront) £500 out of your hands immediately. The agent will agree with you in words, then give you a holding receipt with a bunch of sneaky clauses that is indirectly geared at insinuating agreement to holding the garbage room even though I payed so I can just see the room, with the possibility of me not liking the room unless it matches the photos it was in good faith i payed them £500, but these people are vultures. They don't tell you upfront the deposit is non-refundable if you don't book the room. The agent I dealt with then LIED about the spoken terms to cover herself when things went south, she was in effect trying to get me to go over my budget by offering more expensive rooms after I rejected the dump they showed me. At that point I lost trust in them and just wanted my deposit back. It has now become a legal matter.2) The photos of the room were 100 times better than the actual room you will see maybe even a different room, you never know. However, the room I saw looked like it was never maintained, it smelled worse than a homeless shelter when I walked in with the agent to see it, the bathroom and kitchen were FILTHY with MOULD, you can tell the property was poorly maintained, and you cant blame that on the student living there. 3) Bills - They advertise "bills included", but that has a limit which can be exploited to get more money out of you - don't fall for it. If you use heat you will go over the limit more than likely.4.) I should have read the bad reviews here before visiting them and I wouldn't have lost a whopping £500 for literally nothing!

TrustpilotThe CityRooms was a terrible experience…
The CityRooms was a terrible experience for the 12 month contract I had foolishly signed with them. My first mistake was paying 845 pounds per month for an abysmally furnished flat without a living room in Mile End.They charge you a non-refundable fee to even view the apartment, they turned our 3 bedroom into a 4 bedroom and had 1 room with 2 people in. The tiny kitchen and 1 shower was not enough for 5 people. My roommates did drugs and played loud music until 2 in the morning on weeknights. They are extremely slow in responding to problems, our bathtub leaked for nearly 3 months before they fixed it. They wouldn't replace lightbulbs (and then charged me for lightbulbs when I left!).They did not provide a table and chair despite my room being advertised as having one. They claim to have the common areas cleaned by a cleaner who comes once a week, this is such a joke that I cannot believe they can say this with a straight face. First of all, what common areas? They made it seem like the balcony and living room were available to everyone but instead they turned the living room into another bedroom. My room, the kitchen, and the bathroom were filthy when I moved in. The previous tenants food was rotting in the fridge and cupboard and every surface was sticky and dirty. It took me 3 days to clean the apartment in full and they had the audacity to deduct 165 pounds from my deposit when I left for cleaning fees.I have never had such a poor experience with a business in my life.

TrustpilotDisaster !
My experience with cityrooms was a nightmare from beggining till the end.Firstly when i came to them office, i got interessted about a room, but i don’t know why they couldnt arrange a viewing of it , and i had to choose to move in as all them other rooms were looking really bad. Once i moved in i got really dissapointed as the pictures were not reflecting the reality, the room was alright but the bathroom, toilet and kitchen were in the limit of liveable, everything was so dirty, and left without refurbishment since i think over 10 years. Then we had a lot of issue, radiator out of service after 3 month of our stay, we never been able to get them to repair it, toilet blocked many time and had to wait days to get the issue resolved, water leaking from bathroom down the kitchen, and many other issue until we got kicked out the room apparently because the landlord wanted to get the room back. And please check the gaz and electricty allowance you get as its ridiculous, as after less than a year in there as i had to pay over charge of more than 300£. Please don’t read other 5 stars review who are probably made from them own staff, everybody i know who is using them service including my previous flat mates are all dissapointed ! This agency deserve less than a star ! Please run away from them !

GoogleWorst agency ever, they do not care about anything! Since I arrived the washing machine wasn't working they last 3 months until they fixed it, and they didn't even fix it properly that it got broken again, and already another month. The agency ignores all the emails, they never answer. Also, to my other friend that lives in another house and in the same agency they didn't fix the WiFi he has been without WiFi already 4 months.DO NOT COME TO THIS AGENCY! TO NIGHTMARE
I recommend that if you want to sleep peacefully, DO NOT TAKE CITY ROOMS!!! I have lived in various places in the world, both Switzerland, Mexico, Marbella, USA and now London, and I tell you, it is the worst agency in the world, the worst! The service is terrible, they never answer you, they only write to you if you are late with the payment. From the moment I arrived home the washing machine did not work, I was without a washing machine for 3 months!!! 3 MONTHS!!! No one answered our complaints, we had to stand behind them and after 3 months they fixed it, then I don't know how they fixed it, it broke again and I have been waiting for a month for them to come and fix the washing machine. And the worst of all is that they don't care about anything, they don't answer your emails or messages.
I also have another friend who lives in another house and has the same problem but with WIFI and he has been without Wi-Fi for months and no one pays attention to him.
We'll see about the deposit, because if they don't give it back to me I'll have to go to the extent of hiring a lawyer.

Who does that?? That's what I call best service money can buy, also they have cleaning service, comes in handy if you are living in a shared flat. TrustpilotDreadful company who put tenants in danger
I used this company previously and complained to the council because of the squalid conditions and overcrowding. As a result, on 14 May 2015, Cityrooms.com appeared before Highbury Magistrates’ Court and plead guilty to failing to comply with the Overcrowding Notice. The company director pled guilty and was fined £850 on that charge and a further £400 for failing to reply to a Section 16 Notice which required them to confirm the ownership structure of the property. It was also ordered to pay costs of £910 and a victim surcharge of £85. In addition, was fined £850 in relation to the Overcrowding Notice and ordered to pay £455.50 costs and a victim surcharge of £85. Cllr James Murray, Islington Council's executive member for housing and development, said: “The council will firmly hold to account those landlords who put tenants at risk.”Avoid! Look at the sidebar, of all 174 letting agencies they are rated third from the bottom for a reason!

I used cityrooms for about a year. I moved in last summer. the wifi was not working, the dish washer was not working. Then I got told from my agent that I could buy a wifi, send the receipt to the service team and then they will pay me back. So I did. my email with proof of receipt was ignored. but it was only about £17. I didn't complain. After that, everything was okay. they emailed me back really quick when I asked for something. They were willing to relocate me if I was not happy with my room. (I didn't cause I couldn't find any better rooms than mine.) Brigitta (my agent) is always nice. our washing machine was broken last month. technician guy came to our flat 3-4 times to fix it. it is fixed now. also they came and fixed out dish washer as well. (fixing things normally takes 72 hours if it is not urgent.) I saw some bad reviews here while I was reading my contract in their office last year but after a year with them, they are okay :)
