Too many exclusions in policies..beware

We took out home insurance via RAC (a name we trusted over the years) who we later discovered use Covea insurance for this cover. We had a leak from the shower that caused dry rot damage to our house and c.£10k of damage. Covea refused to payout due to the shower “not being sealed properly”, and when challenged they also don’t cover any claims that may be as a result of faulty workmanship (when installed over 7 years ago). The biggest learn from this is to please check the cover when taking out home insurance as the plan we “regrettably” took out via RAC/Covea had that many exclusions it makes making a valid claim really difficult. In our hour of need we were hugely let down by this company, albeit this was probably our own fault for not checking the numerous exclusions included in the policy itself. Would definitely not recommend and will learn from our very expensive mistake.

Hi Paul, I'm sorry to hear that you were disappointed with our service and you felt let down. Similarly to other insurers, there are certain exclusions within our policies and I'm sorry that we could not assist on this occasion. However if there is anything you would like us to look into further for you, please email your details to home.customerrelations@coveainsurance.co.uk. Many thanks, Melissa

Beyond frustrating.

If only not using Covea for your own insurance was enough to avoid this company entirely. Unfortunately if you are unlucky enough to get hit by another driver insured with them you are entering a world of pain. The policy of this company seems to be to completely ignore calls & emails from 3rd parties no doubt in an attempt to minimise their costs and probably in the hope you'll eventually give up and go away entirely. It is 10 weeks since my car was damaged by a Covea insured driver and my hire car company have now, after endless unanswered calls & emails, informed me they have given up chasing Covea for approval of my hire car, which is probably exactly what Covea was hoping for to avoid paying for it.A lot of replies from Covea on Trustpilot asking others to email customer.relations@... for an urgent response, but I was ignored via this avenue as well. Looking more closely I suspect their Trustpilot responses may be automated, but if not the promptness with which they reply on Trustpilot only goes to further show their stalling is intentional. The best thing you can do is choose a different insurance company (avoiding any underwritten by Covea) and make sure you have legal protection for dealing with cowboys like this should the worst happen.

Remarkable and Quick.

On 2 January a car rolled into our house causing significant damage both inside and out. Today, 2 Feb, the new carpet will be laid and all the repairs are complete. Another company used the phrase “don’t make a drama out of a crisis” well from the moment the loss adjuster walked into our home that was the case. He was so reassuring and arranged everything. The builders used were excellent and the project managed well and quickly.

Covea are duplicitous to say the least

Covea are duplicitous to say the least. BE WARNED: their House insurance policy does not offer the cover you would expect, certainly not worth the paper it's written on. I recently made a claim because escaped water from a neighbouring property has caused substantial damage to ours, amazingly, they will not honour it because the terms say they won't cover damage from caused by escaped water from gulleys and gutters. I read those terms and understood that (like any other householder) this referred to your own, for which you have a reasonable duty of care. After a prolonged review period, they decided this included gulleys and gutters beyond your boundary as well, which we cannot maintain. There's no clarity on this in the terms (Why would there be? Nobody would buy the policy!) and their refusal to deal with this peril trumps any reasonable expectation that they might sue the neighbour's insurer for public liability. A fine excuse for sitting on their hands and an absolutely unblinking disregard for the distress they're causing. Have started the FSA ombudsman process and having talked to various insurance experts, in their opinion this is unprecedented. Charlatans, don't go near them.

insured my iveco truck it got stolen and recovered with minimla damage. Covea insisted on picking up the truck and taking it to karl vella bodyshop. Vella's called me a few days later saying claim had been thrown out. They said they would charge me storage on the truck each day. I called covea they said claim had been put on hold. when you use go compare or any other online price comparison site the data for the reg number comes from the dvla. This truck had a beavertail and not a flatbed so the bits of kids that work for covea thought it was a recovery truck even though its not heavy enough to carry a car. Having to use the ombudsman and the courts to get resolution. The staff i spoke to at covea no one is older than eighteen the right hand has not got a clue what the left is doing. Most of the staff will be ex burger king or mcdonalds if you ever watched the film forrest gump insuring with them is the sequel. Unprofessional not a clue what they are doing reg number yf66ojv so dont bother saying get in touch you get in touch you have my reg number and details for the claim They will have responded to the review below the only thing they are sorry about is that your reading it and might not fall foul of their services

Poor Claims Handling and Very Pet UnFriendly

My car insurance was sold to me by Halifax - little did I know that Covea were the Underwriter - bad mistake!Submitted a claim after a recent accident, Halifax took all of the details by phone (actually Enterprise RentaCar as Halifax have outsourced the claims management to, yes, Enterprise RentaCar!) Halifax then passed me onto Covea, who had NONE of the information I'd just spent 15 minutes giving Halifax / RentaCar and no access apparently to my policy... so had to spend a further 15 minutes repeating everything again - hugely incompetent and a waste of my time. To add insult to injury they then recorded several of the details wrongly - these then had to be corrected in subsequent calls....Mad.Covea eventually passed me on to one of their repairers and I tried to arrange to get the replacement car due under my contract - however they have a no pets in cars policy, so if I needed to take the dog to the vet in an emergency while my car is being repaired - not possible (the excuse is to keep the car safe for future hirers who may be allergic to dogs, in reality of course they just see dogs as messy and want to keep the vehicles cleaner to extend life and value!). So while I'm underwritten by Covea they've made it impossible for my claim to be met due to their pet unfriendly policies! Literally clean car more important than your pets' life. Won't use ever again and the matter is going to the Financial Ombudsman. Avoid Halifax, Covea and Enterprise RentaCar.

Waiting 4 months for a fair settlement

As a third party claimant (a Covea client drove into me) I have been trying to claim a fair value for my vehicle for 4 months. I have challenged them multiple times and they have lied and backtracked, but still not offered me fair compensation. They are taking about 1 month to respond to my emails and I will no longer call because of the shocking way they have spoken to me. I only want to be able to replace my vehicle, like for like, in the local area. I was given examples by Covea of similar cars in Belfast & Scotland. I live in West Cornwall!

AVOID AT ALL COSTS

Shocked to see this company has such a high overall rating. Have found the service to be absolutely abysmal; completely inefficient and incompetent staff. 10 months after my initial claim I am still waiting for my GAP policy to be paid out. They are using every delay tactic to avoid paying out what is owed. Merely a bunch of legal con artists. Would not recommend and definitely would never use again. Have raised a formal complaint with them (which my dealings with them thus far tell me will be incompetently handled and provide no satisfactory outcome). I will be reporting to ombudsman and FSA.

I am a loyal motor trade customer for 3 years now, recently I purchase a Mercedes AMG it's only a 2.0 litres and to my surprise I am apparently not covered on AMG vehicles under my terms and condition, however funny enough I have had an M5 4.4 liters on the same policy added for over 6 months?? And according to their list of prohibited vehicles BMW M Series vehicles should be insured separately??Will definatly not renew my policy and look elsewhere!

They deliberately did not send letters until too late, I got a letter dated the 17th from them saying if they didn't hear from me in 7days then they'd suspend the claim. I got the letter on the 25th, exactly one day too late, far too convenient and I believe on purpose.

Had a septric tank damaged and was told…

Had a septric tank damaged and was told by specialists that probable cause was due to the heavy metal end of the tube that empties the tank was forced into it, this they said has occurred many times with other tanks they have replaced.Insurance companies "engineer" reported that this was not the case and said the cause was probably ground pressure. With 2 splits it the tank approx 200mm apart, it is not likely that ground pressure would cause 2 splits at the same time but more like 1 as the weakest part would split first, that would then relieve the pressure and if anything that split would get bigger and not produce a second split in a different area.Unfortunately the ombudsman agreed with the report offered by the insurance preferred engineer and dismissed the evidence submitted by professional septic tank company. Was told that the individual we initially dealt with had a reputation for dismissing claims.Have now cancelled our policy with this insurer and advise others to the careful when buying insurance off them.

Stay clear absolutely disgusting tactics

We had the misfortune of having a burst pipe in our Bathroom which is directly above our kitchen, rang Covea to ask if we were covered which we were told we were, after getting 3 quotes for the repairs / replacement of our kitchen Covea then decided to send out a so called independent Assesor out who then stated the kitchen units were not damp only the ceiling and the wood under the kitchen tiles, he did not ask to see the kick boards which were swollen up with water, ( ps I am still waiting to see this report after 5 weeks ) at the beginning I asked them to deal with it and only to be told that’s not the way they work stating I had to get two quotes if it was going to be over £1000 so I got 3 quotes and all said the kitchen needed to be replaced, according to Covea Assesor they are just salesman which I found very harsh, he then also stated that we had not declared a claim 4 years previously, which we most certainly had and a fact that Covea confirmed, we were made to feel like we were committing fraud, we have sent numerous pictures and plumbers report from Homeserve stating the work carried out and new part fitted, I actually borrowed a damp metre from my friend who uses this in his job / business and this confirmed readings of damp from 24 upto 38 this is the worst insurance company I have had the misfortune of dealing with and now because I disagree with the INDEPENDENT ASSESOR they are now sending another company out called Chemdry however because both my wife and I have tested positive for Covid they cannot attend until the 23 July at the earliest so in the mean time we are left to live with a bad smell of damp and considering I have asthma is not a good idea absolutely disgusted at this company and the delaying tactics I am in the process of going through a official complaint with Covea and also writing to the insurance ombudsman. According to Covea / Assesor the damage is due to wear and tear on my kitchen, the kitchen was perfectly ok until the flood. From Day one Covea have tried every delaying tactic you can imagine please think twice before using this company.( UPDATE ) still in the same position Chemdry engineer confirmed Kitchen needs to be removed to dry out walls and when the report was sent to Chemdry manager he asked the engineer to update report to just remove wall units which I disagreed with and now Covea want to send a THIRD company out to survey the damp Sedgwick ( check the companies reviews horrendous) I stated I would arrange my own survey at my cost and the Manager at Covea said they would not take this into consideration in the claim process only there company reports says it all really. In the meantime Covea have gave us £10 per day per person allowance to buy takeaway food so we do not have to use our kitchen ( which now has mould growing on it ) they did offer to place us in a hotel however we want to stay in our own home I am suffering badly with my health due to the damp my Doctor has advised us to move out however we have stuff in the house that we would prefer not to leave so 8-9 weeks later and still no further forward please avoid Covea insurance absolutely disgusting do not call you when they agree to and even the manager’s attitude is terrible.
