The Guildford branch has sourced our tenants for over 11 years, Richard and Christine handling over 7 of those. They have provided an excellent service, finding good tenants and handling any issues that have arisen, promptly and efficiently. It is so much easier working with a local branch that gives a very personalised service.

Totally awful and not honest people. Unprofessional and always repeated mistakes in the paperwork. you should check every word and number carefully many times. After getting your deposit, they do not care with your questions or discussing anything with you. Even I can not reach them by phone or email. Completely very high fees rather than other agents. They asked for increasing in the rent annually after getting the deposit, and that thing was not agreed initially. Not preferred for new people that doe not read too much about tenancy agreement terms or tenant guide.

Townends have been a pain to work with since day one. The biggest issue I’ve had is that I share a house with 5 of my friends and we each were given an individual contract saying we each owe £466.67 a month each. Even though I always pay my share on time I always get emails about owing them money because one or two of my flat mates haven’t paid their share on time. But they should just contact the people who haven’t paid since I’ve met my end of the contract. I asked them why they contacted me and they said that we are all liable even if someone else doesn’t pay their rent which seems crazy if I’ve met my contract requirements. Furthermore, from day one they were constantly pressuring us every single day regarding the referencing forms and guarantor documents. I get that this is urgent but they could have at least given us a few weeks to complete these documents before emailing and ringing us all the time. We’ve also had problems with them saying we have an outstanding balance when in actual fact all of us have paid our rent, which is really disorganised. If you are a student and looking to rent a house, make sure you go for a different company.

Great when we moved in 2 years ago but obviously commission focused, when we terminated our tenancy they were absolute shocking, total disregard for our privacy and wishes, rude on the phone, at first didn't bother saying that a booked viewing was not happening, resulting in wasting our time, obviously the current tenant is not important as no profit involved, would not recommend at all and will ensure we stay away from them in future.

I really don’t know how this company is still going, there is no communication between the staff and definitely no communication between the agency and the tenants. We moved into the property and no proper hand over was completed and we were phoned on the morning of our move in to be told we needed to buy a fridge freezer which we were told was included in the property, no apology was given and no proper information passed on to us about the actual move in process or who would meet us at the property. Was told we couldn’t enter the property until 4pm due to it being cleaned but when arriving at the property found hair in the plugs still and toilets filled with lime scale and the shower covered in mould .. not very clean in my opinion. We were left without heating and hot water for the first week we were in which with 2 kids under 2 is not helpful!! Whilst in the property the agency had awful communication and took forever to sort out any issues we had which resulted in us having to go directly to the landlord to get anything sorted, this included being without an oven for over a month during Christmas. We have now moved out of the property in September and have yet to even received a phone call back after calling them over 30 times in regards to an update on the refund of our deposit. We have emailed the head of property management and has even been escalated to the director , although I don’t know how true this is as we have not received any sort of email or phone call. We sent our confirmation on the 18th October to receive of deposit back and our landlord also emailed on 18th as well. Emails ignored again and the head of property management had gone on holiday and not bothered to change her email to out of office so no emails were redirected, just sat in an inbox until she returned. Not setting a good example as a manager in my personal opinion.. Any time we call them all property managers are conveniently out or in a meeting, probably more interested getting the money of new tenants and getting them in than they are the current ones which are ignored and forgotten about. Here we are 7 weeks later and still no deposit and no communication!! I never post or complain but we really are been taken for mugs by this company!! I rang again today and was told I would have a phone call back even after it being marked as urgent , I didn’t hold my breathe on it as I knew no one would phone back and you guessed it right NO PHONE CALL BACK AGAIN!!! If you want to choose an agency that like to throw you in a property take your money and ignore you then townends/stirling ackroyd are your guys!!!! Absolutely shocking and disgusting!! The WORST estate agents I have ever known!!! I’m hoping by posting this they might actually pull their finger out and respond to me and give me my money back!
