Do not choose Mov 8

Absolutely awful experience with this company before the pandemic and after. Communication was non existent throughout. They offered limited advice. I constantly had to chase for updates. I lost count with the amount of different people I had to speak to despite being promised one solicitor. In the end I spoke direct with buyers by email as it seemed to be easier and quicker, so essentially I ended up doing their work. Despite a promise of a fixed fee Mov8 still tried to charge me for 'additional work' they had carried out since the sale of my house didn't go through the first time because the buyer pulled out the next again day! This was soon retracted when I provided them with countless evidence of poor service ! I shouldn't have been charged in the first place. I have already jumped ship to another company to buy a house , suggest anyone considering this company does the same !

A bit disappointed overall

A bit disappointed overall. We approached Mov8 prior to lockdown to market our property. Very slick at this point and were offered 2 packages, a 'pay upfront' for a discount style, or pay more after the sale- we elected for the pay upfront option saving around £400. Lockdown then happened and we were quickly informed by Mov8 that they wouldn't be able to act whilst all this was going on which was very understandable. They made us the offer that if we decided to remove the property and relist at a later date they would come to some kind of deal with us to remarket later on. Fast forward out of lockdown and our circumstances had changed, our mortgage for our new property had been revoked, work scenario had altered so we decided to take up the offer to take the house off the market and remarket later as it wasn't feasible to continue with the sale at this point. Unfortunately Mov8 since changed the goal-posts and withdrew the initial offer and hit us with a further bill, although we had already effectively paid in full for the full estate agency fees for only receiving initial marketing. They were less than understanding and didn't show any empathy for individual circumstances and kept reciting their terns of business that they didn't owe us anything. Eventually after several emails back and forth, they reluctantly goodwilled a discount of 50% for the initial marketing fees but we're very clear in indicating that we were absolutely not due anything from them

Pretty Terrible Experience

Unfortunately I had a pretty terrible experience with mov8 and I would advise against using them. My case was originally given to an NQ who was extremely slow to answer emails and progress the work. Queries took days if not weeks to get answered. A date of entry was not confirmed for a long time and he appeared reluctant to action this. I then found out he had been furloughed in the middle of my transaction with no handover to the next solicitor. In order to try to get things moving I didn't bring up how poor things had been so far and was very polite and acted in good faith with the new solicitor. The lack of work on the transaction meant a highly stressful situation in which we exchanged contracts and completed within a period of 24-hours!! As an FTB this was extremely stressful for me. When we got in the flat, I suspect it due to to the lack of notice the seller was given, the seller had left almost the entire contents of his flat. This included clothes, food, dirty laundry, photo albums, shoes and an old laptop. We were then stuck as we couldn't move our stuff in and on top of that due to the tram works outside there were no bins close by. Emptying flat before moving our stuff in took more than 35 (!) bin bags and two trips to the tip in the car. Bearing in mind the seller had lived there for 30 years there was a lot of drunk to deal with. The flat needed a fair amount of doing up as well so we were very behind schedule before having to start work again. Whenever I spoke to mov8 within the 5 day period I received abrupt replies which I felt demonstrated a lack of understanding and frankly responsibility for their part in things.They also overcharged me by hundreds for stamp duty. I had to chase this 3 times, the first two times I was fobbed off the third I was told that it would be referred to the cashroom. The money was then put into my account around 5 days later without notification or apology. I also had to chase for my standard security, but I did receive an apology for this.I really, really wanted my mov8 experience to be positive but I am sad to say dealing with mov8 was extremely stressful for me and I am still feeling the effects. When you add up all the extra fees etc added on top of the original quote, they aren't much cheaper than most other solicitors. I wouldn't recommend them to anyone especially first time buyers.

Professional Service Especially During COVID-19

I have been impressed with Mov8's service, especially during COVID-19. As soon as the tenant moved out they arranged the survey and photos and put the house up for sale, hoping to get it sold before the shutdown, but 2 days later the shutdown happened. They kept me up-to-date all through COVID-19. As soon as it was possible they put the house back up for sale. They had multiple agents helping with the sale and within a week the house was sold.

I recently sold my property through Mov8 and have been very impressed with them from the outset. Their Estate Agency and Conveyancing fees are very competitive, and the way in which their costs are presented are transparent and clear. Throughout the COVID-19 crisis I have been kept upto date through frequent informative emails. Once the property market opened up again, my property sold within 2 weeks. My Property Sales Negotiator, Jillian, was fantastic and made the whole process stress free. I felt she really understood what I was looking for from the purchaser and had my best interests at heart.

Don't let the cheaper price on the market fool you in thinking you'll receive an inferior service. Definitely not the case. Although there are different departments that handle each stage, the updates and professionalism of the staff rivals any estate agent out there. Sold in less than 48hrs and fantastic service throughout! Our MOV8 experience was fantastic from beginning to end. From the moment we instructed MOV8 to sell our flat the communication excellent, with photos, home report, etc all being booked in at a convenient time. The marketing was ready super fast and looked great, and we were on the market well within the timeframe given at the start of the process. We received our first viewing request in a couple of hours and the property was sold for what we wanted less than 48hrs later!!! The legal side was professional and clear throughout with everything being explained clearly. Overall I'm delighted with MOV8 and I'd highly recommend them when selling a property!

We decided to choose MOV8 to buy & sell, after getting 4 quotes from different estate agents (online & high St) MOV8 were definitely on top. As soon as the sales manager Scott entered out property to give us a valuation and quote for the fees, we knew straight away we would be taken care of. I felt at ease and believed in his valuation and advice. I have a small baby and 2 dogs, so I knew selling my house would be stressful, let alone buying a house too. I did not feel in anyway stressed, I was not pressured into paying more for viewing service or premium advertising such as printed brochures or extra signs (most of the other estate agents were trying to do), which meant I could show my home with my baby around, and dogs in the garden. Once I chose MOV8, I was assigned a purchase negotiator, Ed, for buying, And a property negotiator, Robbie, for Selling. Within a day, Ed had managed to secure an offer on my dream property, and because of his sound advice, I managed to get it under value and saved myself a few thousand. Robbie took over the sale of my property, and because he understood my needs having a small infant, we decided to stay 1-2-1, which helped me massively so I only had to deal with him regarding viewers, offers & interest, he only contacted me via my preferred options, such as emails so it didn't wake my baby etc. My property sold in just over week of viewings and 1 open viewing. I had over 40 couples come and view my property in the space of a week. All well organised and efficient so I could make the most of my time with my family. Mov8 also managed to secure an offer £28k over the value of my home due to the skills that Robbie used to negotiate the buyers offers. I am still in the process of the solicitors, so I can't comment of that side of things, but I would definitely reccomend Mov8, and I would use them again in the future. From selling my property to moving in, a moving date of 8 weeks were given, so fingers crossed I will be enjoying my new property real soon. Thankyou Mov8!

From start to finish Mov8 sales team were amazing but unfortunately the conveyancing team seriously let them down! This is the second property we have sold with Mov8. The first time we couldn’t fault them at all everything went smoothly from start to finish - this time it has not. There have been HUGE communication issues with the conveyancing team with emails not being answered on several occasions and in particular on member of the team couldn’t have cared less about business, so much so I had to put a complaint in and had to phone several times from my holiday abroad turning what should have been a relaxing time into an extremely stressful one!!!! Thankfully I will never need to use them again as will no longer be living in the Edinburgh area. Thanks again to Alan, Ellen, Joanna, Stephanie, Monica, Ed, Louise and all the rest of the sales team but my advice, get someone else to do the conveyancing!!!

Communication was great through frequent emails and all the information was also available through a personalised portal, enabling me to keep up to date every step of the way. We had an amazing experience with this firm from start to finish. They communicate very well throughout the process, we knew what to expect and were guided all throughout. They have an online facility to view the interest in the property and the appoinments we had ahead. They are open late during weekdays and during weekends! They advertise everywhere possible giving maximum exposure for the property we were selling. I am giving the 5 stars out of 5 and an extra one for the human factor for the excitement on our behalf from our principal agent and consistent telephone contact to talk us through of what was going on, as we encountered some bumps along the way from the other side.

This is the 2nd time we have used Mov8 - we used them three years ago to sell our 2 bed flat in Leith, and this time for our 4 bed house in Midlothian. We were really happy with the service before when our flat sold within 10 days, and this time when our house was sold in around 2 weeks. A lot is obviously down to getting the right person, but Mov8 certainly did everything right their end, from valuation, marketing and finally negotiation where we were really happy. The portal you get for viewings / feedback is really good and they are excellent for communications and getting back to you. One of the other main reasons we chose them was their flexible pricing - we only wanted to sell if we could get a particular house we had seen, and if that fell through we would have taken house off market. With Mov8 we were able to pay a much smaller up front cost, compared to rivals. Another firm wanted to charge full price even if we had taken off the market, c£6k!
