Having had more Edinburgh flat viewings than most, I wanted to share that I found James a real breath of fresh air as an agent - usually I prefer seller viewings, they're more relaxed and you get a more realistic insight. But from the off James treats you like a human, listening and taking on board your feedback, along with your priorities. This means he can advise accordingly and give you extra helpful info, rather than a robotic salespitch. He's genuine and also more transparent re offer expectations. For someone who finds Scottish closing dates off-putting this is really appreciated. James' kind and cheerful courtesy also stands out and much improves the whole viewing experience. It also means the property sticks in your mind more 😊 Thank you James!

I would not touch this company if my life depended on it. Due to our home been flooded we rented a flat in Buchlyvie Gardens Bishopbriggs for 6 months. Paid a £1380 deposit. The flat was in reasonable and clean condition but very dated. We had issues we fixed ourselves after being told by agent to try options. We thoroughly steam cleaned property before vacating on 25 July. We replaced doormats, cleaned drains with solution and left the flat in better condition than received. DJ Alexander branch Edinburgh inspected it and said very light cleaning was required e.g. some dust on a bedroom blind and cooker hood. The cooker hood was so old we were frightened it would break on taking it apart. After being assured by DJ Alexander Edinburgh that my deposit would be returned in full as the landlord could not be located within the 30 day timeframe. I received an email on 6 September to say they have now retained 145 pounds, despite new tenants moving in as soon as we moved out. We have only just received the remainder of our deposit 9 weeks after leaving flat and now going through a process for the disputed amount. They should be ashamed of themselves treating tenants they way they do, they don't even have the decency to phone you, all done by email.

We couldn't have asked for a better experience with DJ Alexander assisting us to find and secure our new flat.Natalia Piekarska was a great help in our flat search, assisting us very well despite challenging circumstances surrounding finding a 3 person HMO flat during the busy summer months. The viewing was arranged very efficiently and I found Natalia to be extremely knowledgeable and personable. Any queries were responded to quickly and extra help was always on hand when we needed it.Laura Mctaggart in the applications team was fantastic in letting us know exactly what steps were needed to enable us to sign the lease for the property and get this turned around in a short space of time. I recently had the pleasure of dealing with DJ Alexander Letting Agents, and I must say, the experience was nothing short of exceptional. In particular, I would like to extend my heartfelt thanks to Lynsey Burr and Giulia Ceccarelli, who went above and beyond to help me out of a tight spot.On the day of my move, I accidentally left my keys in a bag, which was loaded onto the moving van headed for Edinburgh. To make matters worse, my train was scheduled to reach Edinburgh late at night, which meant I would be stranded outside my new home without a way to get in.In my panic, I reached out to DJ Alexander and was fortunate enough to speak to Lynsey and Giulia. Our Property Manager Asif went above and beyond with our request to keep a dog in our flat. When we originally asked back in September of 2022, the landlord refused our request. However, deciding to be cheeky, we thought we would ask again a year later in August 2023. To our surprise, Asif went beyond what we ever had expected. He corresponded back and forth with the landlord over a period of a week and managed to convince them to allow us to keep a dog in our flat. I really would recommend Asif to anybody thinking of renting from DJ Alexander. Asif has given my partner and I the opportunity to welcome a dog into our lives - which we never thought would be possible as tenants. I have had a few viewings in Edinburgh with the excellent Property Manager Paul Hyett-Czompo and he has been extremely polite, professional and very knowledgeable. Although I have not found the right property for me, Paul has been really helpful in proposing other properties and booking me in for viewings. Extremely disappointed with our experience at DJ Alexander. My wife and I are in a very difficult position due to our landlord planning to sell. Since this news we’ve had notice to leave/section 11 and we’ve just found out we’re expecting our first baby. I reached out multiple times explaining our circumstances and asking for help, but there’s been no empathy or real support. We applied for a property on Tollbrae Road weeks ago, chased it up several times and eventually got offered a viewing, only for it to be cancelled because it had already been rented. It would have been fair to at least let those already booked view it. On top of that, we had another viewing where the agent turned up 15 minutes late. We understand the market is busy, but the lack of communication, fairness and respect has been really disappointing. We had high hopes DJ Alexander could help us but instead we’ve been left feeling ignored at a time we needed support most.

Illegal Rent Increases

1st interaction with this company was them threatening me to pay for damage done by someone else to a shared front door. 2nd interaction was them telling me work will be getting done on my apartment. Starting date they gave me was wrong, the finishing date was wrong and even the work being done turned out to be wrong. Didn't want to take any responsibility when this impacted me. 3rd interaction with this company was them illegally increasing my rent twice inside 12 months. They denied this was illegal and then ignored my emails until I phoned their head office and demanded a response. Conveniently it was only after I had moved out and they had increased the price again for the next tenant they then admitted they had acted illegally and that it shouldn't of happened. They'll mess you around, ignore you and even break the law. Avoid.

Top class service from Leandra in the Edinburgh office

I called up to ask a request - to find out if someone could help me with finding various legal documents for a flat I bought through Grants Property Management 7 years ago. Grants changed their name to Sandstone before beingvtaken over by DJ Alexander in 2024. I thought I was probably asking for the impossible request however Leandra Brown from the Edinburgh office went the extra mile for me. I was so impressed by her attitude. Nothing was too much or too difficult. She was super efficient on the phone and told me that she would love to help track down the info I needed. She said it might take a while but she would get onto it straight away. Anyway, much to my surprise she emailed me back within the hour to tell me she had found everything I asked her for. I was so grateful to Leandra. I hope she gets to read this because I had wanted to write to the boss of D J Alexander to let them know how good the service I had received was. Infamously the worst renting agency in Edinburgh, especially when it comes to maintenance. I was in a flat for 3 years and when I first moved in it was quickly established that the radiators didn’t work due to faulty valves. It took them 6 months (which included the whole of winter) and god knows how many reminder emails on my part for them to fix the valves. They also took more than a year (I could not make this up if I tried to) to replace one broken chair, although the second time one of my chairs broke it only took them three months so I guess they have a good learning curve.
