Amazing Dedication By Paul and His Team

My partner and I recently moved to the UK and enlisted the assistance of DJ Alexander to find the perfect home for us. We met and had the privilege of working with Paul who's kindness, dedication, and professionalism was a massive support to us in such a turbulent time of change. Paul was extremely knowledgeable about the areas and the properties within his portfolio, always answering every question we could have before we could even ask it. The process was smooth, well explained, and streamlined in regards to the paperwork side of things, and the use of Goodlord was an innovative and intelligent touch to the process. After having done viewings and working with a few other letting agencies around Edinburgh, we are extremely pleased with our decision to continue working with Paul for how above and beyond he and everyone on his team went to find us our new home. I also want to extend a thank you to Lynsey who was instrumental in helping us to organize our property viewings and who's friendly service and prompt communication was greatly appreciated given everything else going on. Thank you very much Paul and Lynsey for all of your tremendous help and support, it will not be forgotten.

Agents go above and beyond

Abby was hugely helpful to me. Answered all questions in a timely manner, set up service appointments, and gave general guidance as needed. We purchased a flat for our son to live in as a student - and we are in California! She even directed us to a solicitor to complete the purchase. This was an entirely new process for us and very different to how it is done here. Yasser was also extremely helpful with a lot of little details and we are extremely appreciative.

After struggling to find a property to rent in Edinburgh, property manager Imran helped us to find an ideal property that suited our budget and location. Imran was very attentive in terms of communication & our move in was as smooth as possible as he met us at the property to ensure we knew how everything worked within the property & that we were completely satisfied. Overall I would definitely recommend DJ Alexander as a letting agency, specifically Imran as a property manager. Thanks to him we are settled in a lovely property & couldn’t be more grateful.

I implore you to take a quick read before wasting your time with DJ Alexander. We applied for a viewing of 19 Cumberland Street on the 4th of August. Travel costs were high but we thought we had to bite the bullet. £97 to come from Hertfordshire. 3 days before our booked viewing, it was cancelled. The landlord had given it to his friend, not quite nepotism but close enough. Money gone and non refundable. We advised that DJ A. should blacklist this fool, for wasting prospective tenants time and money. Time went by. My partner and I see the same flat up again, as the inconsistent landlord couldn't make it work with his friend. Fool me once, shame on you. Fool me a second time and the shame was on me, and DJ Alexander just sat back and watch us take our futile chances on what we thought was a flat that was worth the useless landlord. They should have told us it was back on the market, and we should have been first in line, but nay. Eventually we got a viewing. It was off the books due to a so-called system error. 12.30 Monday the 15th. "It's in Jamie's diary". But alas, Jamie was not to be seen, as my partner's mother waited and waited. I called and was furious at their incompetence. We gave them one last chance. 3.30. Come then. When he arrived 5 mins late, we took the viewing. As I am writing this, I have just found out that the flat was let. This was the worst experience dealing with an agency. DJ Alexander make deals with the masses and could never contain their attention to one prospective client. I was the fool. I was the fool... I implore you. Seek other agencies. DJ Alexander and the Landlord/Ladies they represent will not serve you best. Good luck. It's a jungle out there, and DJ Alexander is merely the parasitic fungi that you see in those freaky documentaries... you know the one where mushrooms grow out of ants' heads? Yeah. Not great.

Tried recently, without success, to contact DJA about viewing a number of properties to rent. Total waste of time. My husband had rented properties from them in the past and towards the end of our dealings with them (Rob Trotter in particular) their attitude became totally unacceptable. I was recently looking for a new flat to rent in Leith for myself. They seem to manage the majority of properties in this area. However despite our earlier problems I was looking for a 1/2 bedroom flat and found a lot of the properties I was interested in were DJA managed and many were exactly what/where I was looking for. I couldn’t count the number of times I called and emailed to register my interest, all to no avail. I’m not sure if it’s my surname that’s the reason (we didn’t exactly end our dealings with DJA on good terms ). There were many issues with our tenant/letting agent relationship, mainly lack of response from them. We rented 3+ properties from them over a period of more than 6 years. Some in joint names others solely in my husbands name. I suspect they still hold our details on file and when either my husband or I contact them a red flag comes up when they see the name Shaw. If that’s the case then their professional conduct comes into question. I would never again use, or recommend DJA, to any of my friends and family as having read many reviews, it seems others have also experienced the DJA treatment lol.

Breamore was bad enough, but when DJ Alexander bought it, the services are even worse. I do not agree that they can cancel a repair/maintenance ticket on their end (without any communication) as they do not have a contractor to carry out any work or inspection resolve a faulty appliance. In any event, the ticket should remain open until the faulty appliance is repaired as the Property Manager/Agent is obliged to fulfil the maintenance services and the date of registering such faulty appliance should be recorded. They are simply manipulating the system to give good statistics. Avoid this, please, landlord and tenants.

I had a horrible experiences with DJ Alexander. Not responsive when attention needed, I waited months and months for induction hob to be repaired (when I was a tenant), and was not able to cook meals. It was an urgent repair but it took about 3 months for DJ Alexander to actually deal with it, despite numerous calls and emails I’ve written to them. Also, after this bad experience I decided to move out and we agreed on a date. The last day DJ Alexander asked me if I can move out a day earlier, and do check-out a day earlier when I had 2 days left, and I had cleaning planned on that day. I could have categorically said no, but I was in the situation where their agents somehow couldn’t come in on originally agreed date and only a day earlier, but not a day later. Before I knew it, Inspector turned up for a check out an hour and half earlier too, and started check out procedure while cleaners were finishing their work. Everything was very forced. They didn’t let me to prepare for check out by coming in a day earlier on a very short notice. They failed to do check out in a day we both agreed and then charged me a massive fee for cleaning as I failed to finish cleaning before the check out. That’s a profiteering if you ask me. It was in 2018, but as soon as I see DJ Alexander - that is the experience I remember. I hate DJ Alexander, they stressed me out and then basically robbed me with enormous cleaning fee, and I will never ever have any business to do with them.

I'm not writing this feedback just because I got a house from DJ Alexander. but overall service experience and courtesy of handling customers, prompt action on customer queries is expressive and worth appreciated. Being one of the larger letting agencies in the city they managed to get end to end process streamline which help customers life easy appling and documentation processing one of the best parts is their staff, they are well experienced and very prompt while helping their customers. I would like to thank you Laura Mctaggart & Derek Rowland for your great service during my tenant application process.

We ended up having to pull out from the tenancy so I can't speak to the rest of the experience with DJ Alexander, but there were a couple of hiccups on their side in the process of getting us approved. However, once we were approved, things went well. We worked with Laura McTaggert, who was extremely helpful (5 stars!). She provided all of the documents and certificates for the property upfront, answered my questions or asked others if she didn't know (they were also helpful), and she was very prompt and kind. Laura continued to be helpful and kind when we had to pull out of the tenancy, which was just as appreciated. Pulling out of the tenancy was simple to do and the partial deposit we'd paid was refunded.

Flat hunting with DJ Alexander was overall very good. Being one of the larger agents in the city, their process is very streamlined. Their contracts and their information gathering process is fair and comprehensive. The best part of dealing with them was definitely their property agents. Looking around properties managed by them was fantastic because they were so incredibly friendly and very knowledgeable. We were in contact with an agent called Natalia who couldn’t have been nicer or more professional. She was excellent at helping us get the flat we wanted. There were a couple of downsides though. They only accept inquiries via RightMove which is a bit odd. I also found their phone lines very difficult to get along with. Twice I had to wait over half an hour on hold to get through to an operative on a weekday which is rough. I’m yet to experience how they handle existing and leaving tenant issues but for now, as a new tenant, they’ve been great.

Excellent service all round

Fantastic experience Giulia was lovely from the get-go incredibly informative and helpful and lovely in person. The whole process was really quick and they kept us updated about our application progress.
