TrustpilotClowns
These clowns are absolutely shocking in every which way imaginable - by FAR the worst conveyancing experience I have had.All the previous comments should be believed, unanswered phone calls, incorrect paperwork, spelling mistakes, no urgency whatsoever - I could go on.I'm not sure they really knew what they were doing and cannot fathom how such a disorganized process can generate any profit. I feel sorry for the employees, must be brutal going into work everyday knowing every customer is completely fed up with the process - steer well clear.

The worst solicitor I have ever dealt with and I have dealt with scores of them. They ignore clients emails for weeks on end. Say they will do things and don't. I am buying in a new build block and every buyer using this solicitor has been delayed completing by months where as the other solicitors acting for buyers all moved in two months ago. Stay away! I am surprised they have not been closed down by the Law Society.

TrustpilotOMG! DO NOT USE GILSON GRAY AT ANY COST!
OMG! Not possible to give below zero so had to reluctantly give 1.DO NOT USE THIS FIRM - STEER WELL CLEAR, BEYOND SHOCKING SERVICE!No words can really describe the extent here but I'll say that I was an estate agent for many years and have experienced numerous 'bad or slow' solicitors in that time, but NONE compare to this firm.I'd agreed (what really should have been) a simple (CASH & NOT DEPENDENT) sale back in March this year (2024). The buyer is an elderly lady and part of the funds were probate, so there was a slight delay to sort that. But at every single turn this firm only give excuses to delay having to actually get on with the work. They don't communicate with solicitors, agent or buyer, and when they do they don't provide any information to actually progress the sale. They simply say they're not in a position to provide dates or move forward - but they should be. We're 6 months on there's still no progress and no useful information from them and so I'm now forced to remarket the property - something I truly didn't want to do to an elderly lady, but this firm has left me no choice. At the rate this firm 'don't' work it could well be 2025 before anything moves forward, so may be quicker to remarket and find another buyer.Hope this review saves you the stress and anguish.

I’ve had the misfortune of being in a small chain which included Gilsonite Gray, selected by our buyer for conveyancing. Similar to lots of reviews here there response times are non existent, we’ve missed 2 exchange and completion dates because of their inability to communicate and provide timely updates. I’d personally avoid using them at all costs and would also avoid any potential future purchase where a chain included Gilson Gray. Still not resolved at the time of writing this and no indication of what exactly is outstanding and potential timelines for resolution.

TrustpilotThe 5 star reviews are made up
Like other’s on here, I have been direly impacted by this Company despite not employing them myself! Currently homeless with a 2 year old at 8 month’s pregnant due to Marika’s negligence. My solicitor answers their enquiries the same day, chases for confirmation of acceptance for weeks, only to get radio silence and then receive the same enquiries weeks later! Why are new enquiries being raised 6 months into the process? They are all enquiries that could have been raised on day 1, they are not codependent on other enquiries. Now close to losing my purchase altogether due to my buyer’s poor choice in solicitor. This solicitor was recommended by my buyer’s Estate Agent, which tells you all you need to know - they have too many cases on at once.Forgot to order key documents required for completion and only realised days before, when everyone had already booked movers. Refused to pay for a fast-track out of pocket, despite it being their error. Now costing the entire chain thousands of pounds. Still no completion date in sight 2 weeks on and everyone’s searches, management packs, mortgage offers etc. are expiring. But still no rush from Gilson Gray! Even tried to blame their client - fantastic service on their part! Was not going to tell their client about their mistake and continued to blame my solicitor for delays until I informed their client of the truth. You should not have to be a solicitor to employ one! Also keeps making up lies about ‘waiting for things from my solicitor’ when this is not the case. Expect contact from the SRA and Legal Ombudsman.UPDATE - 5 weeks on from the agreed completion, still in temporary accommodation. Gilson Gray uncontactable last week and greeted with an email out of office on leave this morning. No one informed of any cover. No exchange date in sight. Diabolical.Switchboard lady is also a horribly rude person and hangs up on your mid sentence!

TrustpilotAwful, threatening and useless
Received a letter from them regarding a debt owed to a company I've never heard of. COEO SECURITISATION LTD AS THE ASSIGNEE OF KLARNA TO BE PAID TO AJJB LAW.That's 3 different companies seeking one payment which is nothing to do with me. Having contacted ajjb law they have said the debt was purchased/sold to COEO SECURITISATION LTD and since the email address isn't mine that the debt has been written off as fraudulent and no further action is to be taken. Not to mention your letter is the only communication I have ever recieved about this debt So you can stop threatening court action and get better printing paper. Your logo head on the letter is blurry and I can hardly make out any of your office information in the pale gray writing font at the bottom, most people would assume this a scam or fraudulent letter because it doesn't look professional and you also don't provide contact information for yourselfs.Edit:-See the below reply from them that more than proves my point. They aren't willing to make contact and force you to contact the debt company instead... Clearly unable to read what I have stated in this review

TrustpilotDO NOT USE GILSON GRAY!
DO NOT USE GILSON GRAY!They are absolutely awful and I would not recommend them to anyone!!We were recommended them through Sequence and we naively decided to use them as they were cheap and it was the worst mistake we ever made!!They were absolutely awful at communicating throughout the entire process, they are online based so you cannot visit them! They never answer the phone and hardly responded to emails. We had an offer accepted to sell our property at the end of January and we put in an offer on a house at the start of May and we only just moved this week. The whole process took 9 months! They dragged their feet with everything, they hardly responded to emails and whenever I tried to ring my conveyancers direct dial or the main line, they never picked up.My conveyancer used to take days and sometimes weeks to reply and a lot of the time, she shifted the blame onto ourselves when we always provided our documents in good time!We ended up having to go through our estate agents to complain about the service that Gilson Grey were providing to hurry them along after over six months of waiting! We ended up getting more information through our estate agents in the last few months than we did from Gilson Grey for the entire process. We ended up getting emails for a few weeks from the Operations Manager after a few weeks then she went radio silent again. They started communicating and ringing us the last week before completion but I really wish that they did that from the very start, as it caused us both a massive amount of stress from the whole process. It has completely put me off going through this again anytime soon so I would stay well clear of using their services!

TrustpilotTrustworthy, Prompt and Reliable
Blown away by Caitlin Houliston and Nuria Seron. Whilst buying my new-build there were plenty of ups and downs and a lot of stresses. Caitlin was utterly wonderful, no issue seemed too stressful or too troublesome for her and even when I finally received my date of entry, she handed me over to colleague Nuria as she was going on annual leave. Nuria was phenomenal and incredibly prompt with all correspondence even when there were last-minute mistakes made by the builder’s solicitor. I would 100% recommend Gilson Gray and can definitely say I’m sticking with them for life, we all need a trustworthy solicitor and these folks are definitely it.

TrustpilotExcessively slow and hard to contact.
I choose these solicitors on recommendation from my mortgage provider, but now wish I hadn't. My solicitor is Letaye, and they have been extremely slow with responding to enquiry's and progressing the sale. I am currently 6 months into a sale where there is no chain on either side, with no major issues. Progress only seems to be made after I question why things are happening, and certain enquiries have only been made 4 to 5 months into the sale which should have been made at the start. Both me and the sellers solicitors have had issues in receiving responses from the solicitor. This will likely lead to more fees due to the expiry of my original mortgage offer. In addition to this, there have been multiple times where the solicitor is on holiday for extended periods of time, and instead of being covered for, all progress has stopped, further slowing the sale. I would highly recommend using a different solicitor.

TrustpilotThey are not as good as you may think them to be
I decided to go ahead with this company as they sold quite a few flats in my block . I thought they seem to be doing something right and decided to go ahead with them despite them charging way more than other estate agents. The very first meeting with their agent I was told they have access to pool of investors and hence they are different. When my flat went to market it had a measly 4 or 5 views. Some one decided to put in an offer that I was advised to accept which I did only to find he retracted and withdrew leaving me high n dry. The flat was back in the market again second time and I was forced to sell it to the guy who offered me home report value. The whole process took me 4 month. They promised me in the beginning that I would be likely to get at least 20K more than the home report and hence went ahead but found out that they had no investors or anyone else that they mentioned they have access to. Don't believe them when they present themselves as somehow better than other estate agents. i sold my flat at a home report value and it took them 4 months to complete the sale and they did not waive or reduce their commission by a Pence despite the delay . This company is all smoke and mirrors. Don't fall for them , they are not what they claim to be .

Very pleased with the service. They were very professional and helpful, they were patient with me as I kept chasing them up and asking them to chase the buyers solicitors due to delays from them. They did what they could to help and speed things up. Good communication from them and happy to answer any questions and explain things. Fees were not overpriced. I did feel a bit like I was doing a lot of their work filling in forms and getting information etc.

Their conveyancer team has proven to be inept and certainly inadequate at dealing with the sale of a house which I am purchasing. No chain, but it has still taken 6 months to reach a possible completion, which should be tomorrow but they have not confirmed yet, so we are up in the air! My solicitors have been unable to contact them they refuse to answer her e mails. The problem started right at the start when my solicitor noticed a problem with the Land Registry Plan which was inaccurate. Gilson Gray refused to do anything about it until the fifth month at the last moment. Land Registry saw the problem and redrew the plans, but this took months, with no word to my solicitor from them! The sale of this property which should not have taken more than 3 months (and that's generous) ended up taking nearly 7 months! If I could give lower marks than 1 I would

Alice Baker (solicitor at Gilson Gray) is an absolute Legend! We cannot thank Alice enough. A solicitor that is not only proficient, but also empathetic. It is clear that Alice has a passion for her profession and for the clients she has. Alice was there to help us navigate through what was an absolute mission when purchasing our home. Always available, or quick to respond if she wasn’t immediately available. Which is exactly what you want when purchasing a home. Her ability to empathise with our situation when faced with challenges was absolutely remarkable and second to none; this is understandably challenging when required to present facts in black and white. We thank you Alice, for your professionalism and support. And would highly recommend you to any one. If you are looking for a Solicitor, look no further than Alice Baker from Gilson Gray Solicitors. TrustpilotAVOID AT ALL COSTS
We really wish we had read the reviews before going with the company for the sale of our house and the purchase of a property. They came recommended by Money Supermarket who seriously need to stop recommending them.We have a very straight forward case in that we are moving into an empty house and our buyers are first time buyers, meaning though there is a chain, it is minimal. We enlisted GilsonGray on 18th March. Upon enlisting, we were told we would receive a welcome pack, which has still not materialised. We are a same sex, married couple, both female, who have been referred to as sirs by two conveyancers multiple times, even after informing them this is not the case, prompting us to believe we have been victim of homophobia. As we have not long gotten married, my wife’s surname has changed and we had to send off our only copy of our marriage certificate. We sent this, signed and tracked, and GilsonGray lost it temporarily. We literally begged via email for them to actually bother to look for it and send it back as we needed it for our mortgage application, yet we found ourselves two weeks later pleading again, this time on the phone, for help. The only useful person we’ve communicated with in all of this, who unfortunately is not one of our conveyancers, answered the phone and found our certificate, which he informed me had been ‘sat on a pile waiting for scanning’ for the past fortnight. Little did we know, after two months of so called proceedings, GilsonGray hadn’t even STARTED work on our sale, thus had not produced or sent the contract to our buyer’s solicitors. They attempted to blame this on us, claiming we had not paid the £39 they required to start this work, yet we weren’t aware of this payment until 8th May, when we were emailed by a secretary, and she then took several days until 14th May to let us know how to send the payment/where to send it.Following this, we have been asked to fill out the same forms multiple times, have had to spend a fortune on next day postage as they have been waiting far too long to ask for signed documents. These have also been asked for days apart, meaning more and more money on postage. We are now almost at our 5 month mark, with zero response to emails and calls. They will not respond to me, my wife, either estate agents and none of the other solicitors involved. We have also been lied to on multiple occasions and only found out due to us making calls and visiting estate agents who have made additional calls for us. We are less than 24 hours from the house we’re buying going back on the market as the sellers have had enough, we have emailed and emailed, begged and pleaded, CC’d in the so called partner in conveyancing, Cherie McBean, as advised in lots of replies on other reviews, and still nothing. You’ve ruined our lives the last 4 months. Cheers a bunch. We look forward to making a formal complaint and gaining the support of the financial ombudsman if necessary.

I wonder if this review will get the same copy-and-pasted response as the other 1-stars (NB many from this Summer alone). A new telephone system is not an excuse for months of delays. It has now been two months in delays for completing a conveyance. I am not a direct client but Gilson Gray and their utter failure to respond to their own client, my lawyer or the estate agents are causing sky-rocketing costs.I am considering seeking legal advice (not from them!!) on whether we can seek compensation for the extreme delay.

Avoid at all costs ! We were assigned these solicitors by the agent we were buying through. In 3 weeks they had done nothing, they didn’t even chase up a memo of sale, I had to do it ! Afsha, who is mentioned numerous times in bad reviews, has a disgraceful attitude, extremely rude and even ‘confused’ my partners mother, who passed away during Covid, as my mother. The bosses there just try to cover it up by saying she ‘gets confused’. This company deals with legal documents daily yet can’t get simple things right like names, dates, properties.
