We’ve had the pleasure of using Michelle’s services on two property sale’s and two property purchases. Michelle is amazing. I can’t talk highly enough of her and the work that she does. I don’t think I’ve met anyone as thorough and on the ball as Michelle and to top it off, she is a lovely person which is an added bonus. We wouldn’t use anyone else.

Sold my mother in laws property and everything went smoothly and the staff dealing with this part were exceptional. However, when it came to getting the funds this was another story. We are still waiting for the money after 2 weeks and being told we would have it for the tax year 2023. WRONG I have sold other properties and had the money in the account the day we exchanged but this is the first time using Thortons. Every bit of paperwork was signed in the office but releasing the funds paperwork was sent in the post and taken 4 days to receive. We then went to the office in person to hand in such paperwork and I now find out that they release the funds 3 days later with £26 interest on 170k. As I'm writing this we still have not got any money.

While we are unable to comment on specific cases, we would note that during the executry process, all proceeds from property sales, insurance or other creditors are sent to the executry account in the first instance, and not directly to any beneficiaries. This is to allow the executry account to be assessed by an independent Law Accountant and for the payment of any bills; such as utility bills, tax or other debtors, before the balance is distributed to beneficiaries. In these cases we aim to provide clients with as realistic a timescale as possible, but third party responses can cause this to change.We understand your Client Partner has attempted to contact you to discuss your specific matter. Highly recommend using Thorntons Solicitors Dundee. Our advisor Alex answered all questions and worries in an easy to understand way. She was very accommodating and understanding about work schedules and will communicate with you the best way for you, be that email, phone or mix of both. Costs were communicated early on and they outlined all costs so there were no hidden surprises when it came to the payment of fees.Alex has been fantastic in keeping us on track, advising on what documentation we need to submit and when, pointing out anything missing quickly and helping us sort them out. Alex and Gillan were always quick to reply to emails, either same day or as soon as they had received the answers/documents they were waiting on. Ontop of being incredibly efficient both Alex and Gillian are extremely personable and reassuring. Both made regular check ins and gave updates every 3-4 days on process in the periods when not much was happening. They also passed on necessary information immediately after they received it. There was never any judgement if you asked for explanations about anything and they made the whole process extremely easy.

Patience is a virtue! Thorton's stuck consistently (nine months) with a long and tortuous process, where the sales in the chain fell through several times, or people pulled out or purchase prices changed, or other legal teams delayed the process, or dates were renegotiated. It was a challenge but thanks to a level headed and professional approach we got there in the end. When one offer, for my old property was withdrawn in favour of a lower one (dodgy tactics frankly), it might have been good to have had up to date advice/coordination between sales/legal team but this is a minor point. In reality the customer isn't always right but it made little difference in the end. From getting the property on the market to eventually finalising the chain was made vastly easier by the calm (and latterly doggedly consistent approach) of the legal team and I can't thank them enough.What a shame though that the Scottish house purchasing process has come to it's present state - it used to be so straight forward. Thornton's is dealing with the changes and it can't be easy.

I contacted Thorntons on a ‘No win, no fee’ basis in August 2021. At first contact and updates were few and far between but I put most of that down to ‘Covid’ delays. They were very helpful when I needed information and when the person I was assigned changed this increase. Laura Minto has been amazing. She’s very knowledgeable and helpful. She listened while I explained everything in my own words and advised accordingly. I now have a settlement figure and am just waiting on that reaching my bank account. It may have taken 1 and a half years but I am totally happy with the result.

I have worked with Thorntons on various property matters including commercial leases and sales, but recently Kenneth Thomson acted for me in a fairly complex portfolio consolidation and refinance. Kenneth's advice was candid, commercial and gratefully received. His response times were excellent, most likely the best I've experienced in the business. He kept me informed all the way and unlike many I have worked with in the past he was proactive in keeping me informed. More importantly, when there was a slight hiccup at the beginning Kenneth ensured everything was dealt with promptly and satisfactorily, often the measure of a company is not when things go right, but when they go wrong. I have pretty high standards with these things and I would without a doubt recommend Kenneth and his team .
