Good solicitors with a personal touch.

Thorntons were excellent from beginning to end. We used them for the purchase of a property. It was our first experience of the property market in Scotland and James was superb at keeping us informed and explaining the differences between what we had experienced in England and what to expect here. Everything was completed thoroughly and in a timely manner. Communication was excellent. The price was a bit higher than some of the quotes we received from other firms, but this got us a direct line to the solicitor whenever we needed it - our experience in the past is that it has been very hard to get past secretaries and assistants, even being told by the last firm we used "they don't usually speak directly to clients". The experience with Thorntons was far removed from this. We would definitely recommend and use them again if we needed to.

We used Thorntons Solicitors to help us purchase our property. As first time buyers, we were very confused about the process and this could have been a stressful experience for us had it not been for our solicitor Emma at Thorntons. Emma was brilliant from start to finish & made the entire process very seamless and easy for us to understand. Anytime we needed anything, Emma was only a phone call or an email away and nothing was ever too much bother. She kept us informed every step of the way and the whole transaction was completed in less than three weeks, giving us plenty of time to be settled into our new house before the stressful Christmas period! We would not hesitate to recommend Emma and Thorntons to anyone, they were brilliant!

Experience of selling and purchasing with Thorntons

We recently sold our previous property and bought our new property through Thorntons. The Estate Agency staff were extremely helpful and we couldn’t fault Louise, who saw us through the selling and Lisa, who took care of the purchasing. First time making a claim

First time making a claim. For the first time in my life I made a claim following my car accident injury. I wasn’t sure where to look, and I was quite hesitant to take first steps. After lots of search I had came across Thorntons Solicitors. As soon as I made a phone call I knew this is it. They had been so supportive throughout the whole case. Katie is the Solicitor that took my case, she made sure that I’m always updated with everything that I need to know/ or any new information. She has been very helpful and supportive, and always made sure that I’m aware of everything that is currently happening with my case till the very end. From the start to the end absolutely fantastic, and I wouldn’t have pick any other places apart from Thorntons Solicitors. Absolutely recommend. I have posted here before regarding a saga with Thorntons solicitors which unbelievably still goes on and onMy mother died and left a small will 7 months ago and still no sign of it being paid outI have dealt with Graeme Dickson.He is the most unhelpful, arrogant rude and unprofessional man I have ever had to unfortunately deal with in my entire life.He does not even acknowledge my emails now unless I go through my solicitor at £150 a time which cannot afford to now do as it has dragged on forever.My last email despite asking just for an update politely as before has just been blanked so I am unaware of what is going on and why this continues to drag on foreverThe partner who deals with complaints is as unhelpful and useless and also often blanks emails.You just could not make this up.I have a large legal bill just getting a lawyer to write to Dickson to continually get fobbed off and he ignores any direct emails I send.I unfortunately now had to deal with the arrogant conceited man to do with my fathers will which is about to be dragged through the courts and can see that dragging on for yearsI cannot put into words how totally unhelpful and arrogant this man is.How dare a member of the public who he probably sees as a pleb as he is a partner in a large legal firm question him.He thinks he is untouchable but trust me he is not as I am just about to put in a complaint to the slcc and legal ombudsman as had enough of this complete arrogant manI am just a normal guy in the street but the way the 2 members of this firm have behaved from start to finish has been disgusting and just this high handed attitude that I am better than you as you won’t question me and you will do as you are toldDO NOT TOUCH THIS INDIVIDUAL OR THIS FIRM WITH A BARGE POLE UNLESS YOU WANT ANY IF THE ABOVE TO HAPPEN TO YOU A small will should be dealt with long before now according to my solicitor so I wil let you make your own mind up why this is not.Perhaps a pleb like me complaining means it may just drag on foreverNothing would surprise me with this man but this pleb is about to bite back with 2 further complaints about to be logged with professional bodies about this man so I am at be nobody but it is called karma

Thornton’s were absolutely brilliant in dealing with my daughters claim. It wasn’t a straight forward case and I feel the support they gave me and the result they got her was fair. They went above and beyond. Arranging specialist meetings for my daughter to be properly assessed, helped me organise full GP records to make sure every piece of information was available for the claim. Their communication and updates where always reassuring, detailed and present with the work they did, along side the other parties they needed to also communicate with. I’d recommend Thornton’s to anyone wishing to seek justice on an injury claim. My former case handler Jamie Lyons and present handler Daniel McGinn where fabulous, understanding and very knowledgeable.

I used the Arbroath branch of thorntons. As first time buyers, I definitely felt out of my depth with the process of buying a house. The helpful solicitor David Mathieson explained everything in detail and answered all my questions and concerns even before I had become a client this was a long phone call that I appreciated. I was also given a breakdown of all costs and legal fees so there would be no hidden fees etc. They were also on hand throughout the process and answered any calls or email’s immediately. They checked through everything like the survey and other unforeseen issues and made sure we was protected before purchase. All in all it was stress free and quick and I thank Thorntons and David very much. David is a credit to his profession and I wouldn’t hesitate to recommend them to anybody in the future.

Fast and Efficient

When I contacted Thornton, I already had viewed a house and wanted to put forward an offer, but the previous solicitor I was working with fell through. I have had ongoing issues with Graeme…

I have had ongoing issues with Graeme Dickson and Michelle Adam for months.He has continually acted unprofessionally all through my numerous dealings with him in various respects.He took months to look at a simple hand written note and decide on its legality whereas my lawyer did it in secs.He cost me a fortune in contacting him because of this and his in my opinion poor handling of my mothers will which I still have not received my legal rights from.He used to take weeks to answer a simple email and latterly his reply was bordering on hostile.They have completely disrespected my mothers memory as it is still dragging on and cost me an unnecessary fortune continually having to chase the matter up through my solicitor.My impression of this man is he has a very high opinion of his own self importance and this does not even include the fact I have a lawyer looking into him allowing my father who had a mental health breakdown to change his will.That is ongoing and is going to be thoroughly looked atThen you have the client relationship manager Michelle Adam.Try and even get a response out of her and you are doing well but she defends her colleague and her company blindly in my view.Latterly, she had 3 weeks to confirm 2 matters from above with Mr Dickson and I sent several emails asking her for an update.3 weeks later and none of them were even replied to.I don’t think either of these individuals understand common courteousy and the attitude in all my later dealings with them has been disgusting.Never mind I am grieving losing both parents but their shocking attitude, arrogance and attitude knows no boundaries.I am reporting them both to the slcc but as these individuals appear to have no shame or understanding of the word grieving,it will probably be pointlessSo do not touch this firm or instruct either of these individuals.I have previously lodged reviews on here regarding both these individuals and matter just get worse

Experienced - 2019 to 2022I visited the Forfar branch to conduct my duties, to be told about one of their previous clients, whom was trusting them with legal assistance. They would openly discus charges that this person was facing in the reception area, they would also rant about other clients. 4 years later, they lost me my job by sharing misinformation, my home and left me in a vulnerable situation.For a legal representative, they would rather slander you than help you.Thank you for ruining my life.
