From the off there was understanding and support. I find it difficult to speak on the telephone after suffering a stroke 18 months ago and I now rely heavily on my partner to speak on my behalf which in the situation I faced was rather difficult . Stephanie Watson was assigned my case and although on instances could only speak to me , she accommodated calls where my partner could be on “speaker “ with me present and would also respond to her emails asking for certain aspects and procedure to be broken down to help me understand more easily. This was to give me reassurance and keep my stress level down, anxieties manageable . I could not have continued at times if it wasn't for the constant support and belief Ms Watson continued to show these past 12-13 months. For this we are truely grateful . Thank you.

Sharon C was happy to meet in person and assure me that she was there to support me through the process, not just "get the paperwork done". It was my first time buying a property in Scotland. My partner got in touch by recommendation from his friend as we were buying our first home. We dealt with Teresa through the whole process and she has kept us on the right track and helped us buy our first home! Even with the hurdle of the chain breaking one week before completion to us sitting in our lovely new first home. Teresa always answered our questions and has forwaded our details to her colleauge to help us write a will. Such an easy company / people to deal with. Excellent prompt service for move from England to Scotland. Our solicitor Alex was very competent in both English and Scottish property law. She gave us all the information we needed, happy to discuss options including face to face and phone calls when needed. Was prompt and had cover if she was on holiday. The process went very smoothly.

Stewart, Arlene and Rona all helped us buy our first house in Scotland and were brilliant throughout. Timings were tight and had to tie-in with our English sale and they were calm, thorough, professional and, amazingly, it all went to plan and we are now moved in. We will be using Thorntons again in the future for new Wills and other property-related matters and will definitely recommend them. Be very careful if you are trying to claim for medical negligence. They start off by telling you the referral company that sent you to them was wrong. They then ask you to pay £480 for medical records which is actually a fee for a medical company to do a report on you to see if the claim can proceed. Apparently Thorntons are not the medical negligence specialists they claim to be as your paying for the specialist to do a report and decide. So after saying they will take on your case they may well not if the report isn't what they want and they leave you with nearly £500 in debt. Shady at best.

Beware of being stung by this company should you be in the unfortunate position, as I was, of being called to police interview. I employed Baktosch Gillan, Litigation Solicitor at Thorntons in Dundee, at short notice back in mid July, when I was unexpectedly required to attend Dundee police station following a completely spurious allegation. I paid £1200 to Thorntons upfront for Baktosch to attend. He met with me for five minutes before the police interview, and gave me one piece of advice, to say 'no comment' to every question (I didn't know at the time that this is standard practice in Scotland). Following the interview, he sent me a further invoice for £600 for 'all advice, meetingss, telephone calls and correspondence with you' up until the end of the month. This had amounted to a single email asking if he could be of any further assistance, to which I had replied in the negative. So I paid £1800 all together for a one-line piece of advice (to say 'no comment') which required Baktosch to have absolutely no knowledge of the case. Please don't employ Thorntons and get caught out, if you find yourself in a similar position to me. It is stressful enough to be accused of something you haven't done without being fed upon by such an unprincipled solicitor at the same time. Please make use of the solicitor provided free of charge by the police, or simply remember that any solicitor will give you the same advice for a police interview, to remain silent. It seems a strange system that the accused are allowed or even expected to remain silent but that's just the way it is in Scotland (unlike England). And above all, good luck

All of the team were very professional from The estate agents admin staff to paralegal and solicitor. They continued to update me on everything that was going on from appointments made to those that were cancelled to all notes of interest and offers made. It was a very seamless process from start to finish. And the new buyers of my home were under a tight timeline to get the offer through and accepted the team performed under this pressure and delivered.

We received fantastic service from Thornton's conveyancing team who helped us move from Yorkshire to our new home in Scotland. We would like to say thank you to Sophie, Beth and Lucy who were all involved in our purchase. We were unfamiliar with the Scottish conveyancing system and they did a great job explaining everything. Our purchase went through very quickly and smoothly and they did a great job liaising with our solicitor in England. Sophie started our file before moving on to a different department, Beth handled most of the process and Lucy did extremely well in keeping us sane during the final stages when money transfers didn't go entirely to plan - keys were picked up 10 minutes before the estate agent closed! We recommend them very highly.
