Martin & Co have got to be the worst…

Martin & Co have got to be the worst housing to ever exist. My Daughter moved it into a flat 3 years ago that was freshly painted but noticed the glass panel that was once painted had black dots on the door which clearly showed there was mould in that property. They allowed my daughter to move there with a 19 month old baby. The property within a month was smothered with mould, it was on the walls, clothes. Mattresses etc. my daughter tried everything painted with the mould paint, they put extractor fans & dehumidifier which hasn’t helped one bit. My grandson has constantly ended up in hospital lifeless from where he’s so ill he’s not eating or drinking. Doors are hanging off hinges due to how bad the mould is, bath has been blocked from day 1. Council made me go private and this is what I’m having to live with, I can’t even move out as I don’t have money. How these people can sleep at night is beyond me. My grandson is now registered as asthmatic and they’re trying to say that mould doesn’t effect your health.

My Mum had died and her house had to be sold. Rowan was extremely sensitive and kind. She kept me informed along the way. When my Brother and I decided to take it off the market, a guy who had viewed it so wanted it that he pursuaded Rowan to make a call to us. To cut a very long story short, he now owns it! Had Rowan not followed her gut instinct the house would probably still be empty and unloved.

New Milton, Awful estate agents, left us homeless with no help

Disgusting estate agents didnt bother with us at all, I called and called to view a property as ours was only a short term let, they never bothered to tell us when the viewings were despite me calling several times and let the property go to someone else. There was nothing else available and because of this we ended up homeless while I was pregnant and with a 3 year old. Never use them!!

Do not rent with Martin & Co, especially if you are a student. I rented a flat in Falmouth for almost two years with them (we only stayed for the second year for lack of other options) and the way they treated us was insanely unfair and unreasonable. For the majority of 2022 we had no boiler, and although they discounted our rent it was clear there was absolutely no urgency on their end to provide us with hot water or heating. The boiler in general constantly stopped working throughout the tenancies which was very frustrating, however arguably the worst part of renting with them was the way they handled the deposits. Even though we were continuing on with our tenancy, we were told to move out for 2 weeks over the summer- we cleaned the flat before we left despite knowing we would be back in a couple of weeks- however we were then charged hundreds of pounds in cleaning and damage charges for no good reason. There were also a series of weird unexplained things that happened while we were moved out (a time where none of us were allowed keys and had no access), for example the lock on my bedroom door had been damaged, and completely new, packaged makeup (that didn’t belong to any of us) was put in my bin, a couple of items were missing from the living room and , most disturbingly, a large ‘blood stain’(quote by the estate agents) was left on our living room carpet, accompanied by a pigs ear (dried meat dog chew) left on the table. This was so confusing to us and even though it happened over a year ago we still have no clue what happened or why the estate agents were not more concerned by this- we spoke to Sarah countless times about our issues and she brushed them all off very unprofessionally. Their answer to these things was that we must have given our keys to someone (we had proof that they had our keys) and that if we challenged the DPS charges it would take another 2 months to get any money back, which we couldn’t afford being students. The same deposit issue happened at the end of our 2023 tenancy also, with them charging us over £700 for general wear and tear. It’s easy to assume that we left the flat dirty and damaged, but we kept the flat clean and left it in a much better condition than we recieved it. I should also mention that the maintenance they provided was so poor that one of my flatmates had to sleep on the downstairs sofa for months due to a severe mould problem caused by a hole in the wall of her bedroom. The mould was so severe that there were full grown mushrooms underneath her bed, which we reported and contacted the estate agents about multiple times, however they never fixed it. They did however charge us for cleaning the mouldy carpet. There are so many more issues I could go into, such as the man hired by Martin & Co to powerwash our garden shouting at and repeatedly harrassing our neighbours and claiming he lived in our flat (we raised the issue with our estate agent who said she would look into it however ultimately decided to do nothing (a running theme) and sent him back a few months later to do more work). There is a lot more I could write about but I feel as though this should be enough to hopefully deter some people from making the same mistake as us and renting with this company.

So grateful with the letting team most especially Ruby. I was so devastated and keen in getting a property. Ruby kept me posted when I asked the property. At first she explained that the viewing appointment slot is already full and if I want to put my name just in case somebody will cancel their appointment. Luckily, she called and discussed about the property and if I am interested. Then the rest is history. But yeah, can't thank enough Ruby if that time she did not phoned me perhaps until now I will be hopeless in finding one. Cheers and more power to all of you!

Anti social tenants welcome at Martin an co.

Martin and Co are responsible for the nightmare tenants next door. I have called them 9 times to report anti social behaviour as I cannot sleep until around 2 -3 am. This has ruined my mental health and ability to function at work. They care not about duty and responsibility. I wouldn't use them in any shape of form. No standards.

As a landlady for over 20 years this is comfortably my worst experience. The letting agent at the Leicester office was rude and patronising at times. Incorrect AML checks for which there was an expectation the landlord would cover the costs. Slow replies to email and requests often not actioned. Questionable GDPR compliance with attempted validation through loose loopholes. Overall a stressful experience which is concerning when you pay for a service to take away the stress!

Good estate agents but viewings are quite jam packed so bear that in mind. I did not like one particular person's telephone manners much from the brief conversation I had with him. I felt like he was quite abrupt and lacked tact, but I'll leave it at that. I had the pleasure of dealing with an estate agent named Ruby whom was very helpful from the get go. The landlord was also great and very accommodating with move in dates. Plus marks on staying behind an hour after closing so that I could pick up my keys that was nice of them. Stay clear of Martin and co!

I had an extremely disappointing experience with Simran at Martin & Co Birmingham City. Communication was virtually non-existent, she took 3-4 days to respond to emails, if she replied at all, and was unreachable by phone, insisting on email-only contact. As a landlord, I found her uninformative and unsupportive, particularly when dealing with tenant vacating processes. She provided minimal effort in securing damage deposits, even when damages clearly exceeded the deposit amount. Overall, her service was inadequate, and I strongly advise landlords to avoid working with her to save time and frustration.

We have been dealing with Martin & Co over the last 4 months whilst looking to rent a new home after going through homelessness. I cannot express how friendly and helpful they have been during this time. We have seen upwards of 10 properties with them during this time and been shown the properties by Liam on most occasions. He does a great job of showing the property, giving all the information needed and, answer any questions we have had. We have now been accepted for a home through Martin & Co and have dealt with Ruby during the referencing process, etc. She has been incredibly prompt during this process, given all the information we have needed and, made it such a smooth process. All we can say is a huge thank you to the team during this time as the kindness they have shown, has been a difficult time worthwhile in the long run.
