My experience with Martin & Co Falmouth was extremely concerning and deeply frustrating. The way my deposit was handled felt deliberately misleading and completely lacking in transparency. I was presented with questionable claims and justifications that did not appear fair or properly supported, giving the clear impression that they were attempting to retain money without valid grounds. Communication was inconsistent, and explanations frequently changed, which only reinforced the lack of trust. This is not what anyone should expect from a professional letting agency. Based on my experience, I would strongly advise others to be extremely cautious and to document everything carefully when dealing with them - especially when it comes to deposits.

Forum Fighter, we appreciate and actively encourage all feedback and while it is difficult to respond to an anonymous review, there are a few points I would like to clarify. If you rented a property that was managed by us your deposit would have been protected by the deposit protection scheme, you would have been aware of this and the process to take should you have disagreed with any reccomended deductions from the deposit. You would have also been made aware of how the property should have be returned at the end of the tenancy. You mentioned that communication was inconsistent. This surprises me as we pride ourselves on providing excellent communication (as many of the other reviews will testify). If you are able to provide me your contact details I will certainly look in to this in accordance with our Complaints Policy which you will be aware of. should you not be satified with my findings you can refer to The Property Ombudsman scheme of which we are proud members of. Please feel free to email me (jon.sampson@martinco.com) with any questions.

Praise for Peter at the Worcester branch

My husband and I would like to give our deepest thanks for the efforts of Peter Newitt. He did an amazing job of matching us with the perfect rental property. He is very perceptive at matching landlords with tenants. Through Peter keeping who we are and what we were hoping for in mind he found us our dream place after just one previous viewing. By this point we'd had viewings with various other local estate agents and we can state categorically that Peter is of a calibre that you'd hope to find but rarely do. Professional, genuine and delivers.

The process of searching for and…

The process of searching for and acquiring a rental property can be extremely challenging and stressful, but when you are assigned an agent who’s willing to work with you to find that property, then work with your interests in mind, that makes the process that little bit easier, my agent Ryan McKenzie was that person.thank you Ryan,

Views of a customer

From start to finish this has been the most efficient, respectful and informative process I could have asked for from Martin and co. The professionalism of the team at egham especially Jasmine Gahunia has been of the highest standard and I’ve so much gratitude for the way it’s been handled. All stress and worry was taken care of and left me convinced my best interests were at heart. Even with it being at Christmas the speed at which it was all done shows exceptional standards. Would recommend this company and team to anyone looking to rent, buy or sell.

I have dealt with Janet from Hinckley branch for my house sale. She has been absolutely amazing always contactable, poilte kind and helpful. She went out of her way to help us and settle my mind when issues occurred with the property sale, she also helped us to get the sale completed and contacted buyers solictors countless times when they where being really unhelpful. We are really grateful for all her work.

From my very first enquiry, Liam was incredibly kind and considerate of my situation. In his own words, “let’s take the stress away from you” and that’s exactly what he did. The level of service has been second to none. I was able to view the property within 24 hours of making my initial enquiry, and throughout the process I felt completely reassured thanks to Liam’s empathy and professionalism. Nothing was ever too much trouble. Even during the viewing, Liam gave myself and my daughter plenty of time to look around after showing us the property, which made the experience relaxed and pressure-free. Everything moved along quickly afterwards, which was such a relief at a time when I was feeling overwhelmed. I can’t thank Liam enough for his support throughout this process, and I’m so grateful for his help in hopefully securing a lovely property we can call home as a family. Thank you, Liam

Professional, friendly & supportive

My review is in relation to the Westbury office. I used the two years ago to sell my late Mum’s house and again now to agree a sale on my own home. They have all been wonderful. Kerri had dealt with the lion’s share of viewings. Unfortunately we had two buyers who lost their buyers. Kerri has been so helpful. Tanya, Kieran and Kim have also all been amazing in providing support during what has been an interesting journey.

The only good experience is when you aren't interacting with them

Sent harassing emails to entire flat building during tenancy; expecting tenants to maintain the building in a way that is clearly the landlords responsibility. Would also try and sell us 3rd party insurance coverage to cover "damage" that falls under wear-and-tear, so the cost would not fall onto them. When we first moved in there was a clear fire hazard (exposed wires hanging from the ceiling with running electric), that after requesting maintenance for, was told it was a known issue for months. Oven upon move in was essentially broken, with the top heating elements bent at a 90 degree angle into the oven, and it produced a bad smell. Hob on top was rusting off. Was told that because it was "technically working" they didnt have to replace it. They finally replaced it after 6 months, but only when we emailed them saying they were infringing on our rights as tenants. Bad at communication for viewings when we were moving out. Also, the woman I turned my keys into on the last day was EXTREMELY rude, mocking me, and overall completely condescending and snarky for no reason when there was a small issue of keys not matching their inventory. The keys issue was resolved quickly as it was my housemate who had misplaced a key, but Martin and co were absolutely no help in resolving it and were horrible to deal with. Landlords are evil.

Martin and Co Oxford & Thame

Martin and Co Oxford & Thame: Not that any estate agent cares about a bad review but, what a joke, as a landlord, you try to be nice, you try to treat people with respect but clearly its just about money. I have spent countless hours chasing money due to financial errors on M & C side and I still have yet to get it back. Repairs have been done in my flat without my permission, so I just receive bills for things I wasn't even aware were broken. Emails ignored, calls ignored, communication = zero.Just absolutely rubbish but then, Not my first estate agent that has been like this. I have

I viewed a property at Bestwood Village

I viewed a property (House) at Bestwood Village as i am very eager to move there. The agent showing me the property put me forward for an application right there on the spot after i told her i was desperate to live in this area to be close to relatives. On viewing I mentioned one concern about the bath panel needing repair but there were several other minor concerns i was prepared to deal with myself on moving in. Once i had been put forward for the tenancy everything seemed to run smoothly until it came to being handed the keys. It was only after paying the deposit and getting the keys that i was told there was an inventory attached to the contract with repairs that were pending. I took my own photos and added these to an email and sent them to the agency and the landlord.

These agents are to avoid at all cost! The worst possible service ever. We dealt with James and Felicia back in 2020 and rented our property through them on their premium service as we were abroad, they didn’t manage anything as they should have and put tenants on benefits which they fully knew was the case without making us aware and then there was a water leak in the loft water container which the tenants made them aware off and they took over a mont to act on it which resulted in the ceiling collapsing and the house being completely covered in mould everywhere. They refused to take responsibility for this and we were greeted back to our poor house completely destroyed by mould and damp as well as the tenants dogs which urinated everywhere indoors. Stay well clear of these agents if you don’t want to be messed around while paying them fortunes. Team was extremely rude and just didn’t care whatsoever and tried to lie to cover their mistakes. James shouldn’t have a job in customer relations but clearly only as selling corrupted insurances to poor souls.

Thank you for providing feedback Claire. I have gone through our archives and can see that we did manage a property of yours in 2019. I believe it was me that dealt with your complaint back then and not James. I am afraid that much of your latest review is inaccurate with the exception of the accidental water leak. I wrote to you on the 2nd of August 2019 with a clear timeline of events, highlighting that we were not at fault but assisted as best we could, while being mindful of your tenants right to allowing access. The fact that your tenant was in receipt of benefits had no bearing on the accident and we as an agency will never discriminate against anyone that may need assistance with benefits. In my letter to you I provided the contact details for the Property Ombudsman, who could provide independent, impartial free mediation should you not be happy with my response. You chose not to contact them then, but if you would like another copy of the letter now please just drop me an email (jon.sampson@martinco.com) and I will resend it. Kind regards Jon

Horrible Letting Agent

This letting agent in Coalville is absolutely horrible. Throughout my tenancy, they were always unresponsive, care less about the tenants, and even breached their own contract. They refused to return my deposit and showed zero professionalism. I strongly advise anyone to avoid renting through them.

Worst company ever

If i could give zero stars i would, please please NEVER rent using this company. They do not care about you they only want your money. Got Mould? Has ur boiler exploded ? Or want a nice clean apartment when u move in? Yea nah they do not care im afraid, all this stuff happened to us, when we moved in the house was disgusting, the washer cupboard had like crusty carpet (and im no princess i can make do but bro it was so disgusting) like 10 year old hoovers covered in mould, trash bags with ripped out blinds in, all the bathroom cupboards had mould in and the legs on the bed were like snapped and the light in the bedroom wasn’t attached either it was such a safety hazard and now these guys have the nerve to ask us for money towards a cleaning service for the next people when i know theyre just going to keep the money and leave it. I left that apartment c l e a n too! Oh yea and when we moved in the water wasn’t even attached to the washing machine properly so we had an apartment flood which happened like 4 times while we were there, 2 was the washer just spitting so much water and 1 time the boiler exploded water everywhere to the point half the walls doors and frames all swelled up! and i swear it was the reason i got a lung infection cus there was so much mould and water in the air bro AND THEY STILL ASKED US FOR MONEY!!! I swear im not a dramatic person, i cleaned that apartment so much and im very understanding but it got to a point where it was just ridiculous and you’re paying all this money and nothing but the bare minimum ever got done! And i had to email so much to even get that! For real if you want your sanity, just go with literally anyone else!

Liam at the Falmouth office showed me round the property. He was cheerful and informative. The communication via email right from my first enquiry has been excellent. The agency is very good at getting back to you. The referencing stage was completed within a week and I now look forward to getting my keys. I hope my future experience with Martins and co Falmouth is just as positive.

Rubbish

Well, I know that the staff are leaving the company, but an Estate Agents job is to keep their clients informed of all aspects of their sale and to liaise with the solicitors. There was no communication for 4 weeks and having found out that the perspective buyer had pulled out of the sale after 2 weeks. To say the least I was very disappointed. Moving forward I would not use this company or recommend it. As I am not a vindictive person, I will not be mentioning any staff names that I had dealt with.

We just completed a long-distance move into our new rental property, and I can’t say enough about the amazing team at Martin and Co.! They truly made our transition smooth and stress-free as possible. A special shoutout to Liam Jefferies, who went above and beyond in communicating with our new landlord on our behalf. The entire staff was fantastic, promptly answering all our questions via phone and email. They guided us through every step, making it feel like we were right there, even from afar. Huge thanks to the team for their exceptional support! 😊
