Birmingham Martin & Co
Rented for 3 years with Martin & Co Birmingham, got left without a washing machine for 4 weeks because Debbie Kempson ordered the wrong washing machine! No compensation for there wrongdoing broken floorboards caused by contractors as the washing machine didn’t fit, no hot water for nearly a week! The worst company in the world. On departure they said I would receive my deposit back within 10 days I left on the 25th of April and it’s been nearly a month! I’ve now had to get a solicitor involved to give them a statutory declaration form to get my deposit back as they have stopped responding to my emails! I’ve been made to feel nobody caresAvoid renting with these guys!

Gary at Martin & co has been a fantastic agent to work with. He is knowledgeable, reassuring and very capable at navigating the inevitable challenges of buying and selling in Cornwall. His communication skills are excellent and I have greatly appreciated his regular updates. He has gone above and beyond in our sale and I greatly appreciate his work. I would certainly return to Martin and Co and will be recommending the agency to friends and family locally based on my experiences this year.

Martin & Co Stirling - Outstanding stress free service.
Excellent, stress free service. Flat was sold and concluded in less than four weeks. Allan and his staff took care of all viewings and negotiations in a very efficient and professional manner. Many thanks for the refreshingly good service.

Martin & Co we’re a delight to work with both as a letting agent for us and more recently selling our property. Many thanks to Kirsty and the rest of the team.

I rented my flat privately for 8 years. After years of battling to get any maintenance done I reported my landlady to the council. 3 months later Martin & Co took over the management of my flat. I cannot say it's been a positive experience. Within a week I had a rent increase of £100 a month after they inspected the property. Within a month myself and another couple were issued with a Section 21 (we clearly were problem tenants and no other tenant was evicted). I have since heard that a new tenant was told that the landlady is looking for long term tenants and she's had to sign a 12 month fixed term tenancy and she has a bowl catching water from a leaking toilet! Although another rumour is that the owner plans to sell the flats of those who have been evicted. Take whatever you hear at viewings with a pinch of salt! Since September 2023 I have been grieving the loss of my Mother, my beloved elderly cat and I've been unwell with a gallstone and the stress of being evicted. In a town that has a huge housing crisis and extremely high rents it's been horrendous stressful to find alternative accommodation, but I managed it by some miracle. When I told them I was leaving they wanted proof in the form of a copy of my new tenancy agreement so I could avoid being taken to court as I'd stayed after my section 21 expiry date (Easter Sunday!) I was advised by Cornwall Council not to make myself intentionally homeless and I could exercise my right to stay if I hadn't found somewhere to live. They have now inspected the property after I left and implied I have left a pane of glass broken and just left a plastic film over it along with damage to a door that I had no choice in damaging after the catch dropped and I was unable to open it and it was a potential fire risk. They have formed an opinion of me and majority of the staff haven't even been to the property. And not one member of staff even offered any understanding for the horrendous 6 months I'd had. How can they comment on the state of a property 8 years ago when they have only been managing it for 5 months, nor know of the full history or battles myself and other tenants have had to adure? I feel like I've been branded as a bad tenant and a criminal for simply exercising my rights to have a property that I pay rent on properly maintained. I'm now trying to get my deposit back. Although I have heard my previous landlady is paying my former next door neighbour to decorate the property. Something she actually refused to do for me and told me it was my responsibility once I'd moved in. If you rent do your research because you will be told things that aren't necessarily correct. And if any of the maintenance team or management of this company read this they should read their own blog about locks and my email about the broken lock!

Beware Blackpool, Lancaster and St Annes Branches
Dodgy plumbers left me with no water heating all winter. They lied and harassed me into leaving for trying to get it fixed.I spent over a month trying to get somebody decent to fix the water but they kept sending the same ones. Then I asked the council for help. Next day they started a no fault eviction (it's illegal to evict over repairs). They said the landlord was selling which was a lie. After 2 months they came and said I should have left which is a lie. They got a guy they said was the landlord (who had a different name) to lie and threaten me about the eviction.I'd been dealing with lying scumbags in a flat with no hot water for 5 months by this point so I gave up and left. They put the property up for let (for more money, when it didn't have hot water) before I moved out.I asked for a manager but nobody helped. (There are no managers, but everybody has the word manager in their job title). The council wrote to the "operations manager" for help but he ignored them. The "property manager" lied to them. The "assistant manager" hid out of view when the "property manager" came to harass me into leaving. It's an independent agent with offices in Blackpool, Lancaster and St Annes. Martin & Co is just a branding thing for the independent agents to hide behind, so "Martin & Co" won't help either.I wouldn't recommend anybody go near anything connected with this company or these people. I can't put into words the hell they will subject you to if you have an problem. As soon as you have a problem, speak to citizens advice and try to get legal help. Record everything in case you need it in court.

Having used Martin & Co, Falmouth, to manage the letting of our property, I had no hesitation to use them for selling as well. What is described as one of the most stressful things to do, selling our house with Martin & Co was an absolute breeze, from start to finish. The whole team were professional, honest and helpful throughout the entire process. Thank you Felicia, Jon and Tom

Verity and Tom were extremely helpful and patient throughout the buying process. Verity in particular worked incredibly hard to make the process as smooth as possible (even when it was bumpy). The rest of the team was also very helpful, if Verity or Tom were unavailable - all of this, throughout lockdowns and the pandemic - thank you so much - 5*.

Excellent service
We recently enquired about a rental property, our call was handled courteously and efficiently, our viewing was arranged timeously and Nasreen from Martin & Co was helpful, knowledgable and very respectful throughout the entire process. Documentation was delivered as promised, fully explained and processed expeditiously. At the time of writing, we have no experience of lease end or matters arising, return of deposit etc.

Not competent advisers
I am self-employed. My husband employed and we have a guarantor. But a very "nice" lady on the phone said that since I have been working for less than 1 year, my income will not be taken into account and the presence the guarantor does not change the situation in any way! So we could rent from them (or anyone from Rightmove) only on husband's salary which is enough only for properties not more then £900!!!Obviously that adviser is not competent and left me with no hope when it was a lie!

Rude Agent
The agent was rude over the phone. Wouldn't give us a chance to talk straightaway telling us we can't rent the property. My husband called separately and they made him hold 3 times asking unnessary question like about our kids especially what gender they both are, like what's that got to do with renting a property? Not a trusted house agent at all. Would never recommend.

WOW! What more could we possibly say about Emily and the rest of the team at Martin and Co in Falmouth. They made the whole process incredibly easy and stress free and were always happy and on hand to answer any questions we had. We’ve been in contact with a number of estate agents in Cornwall and the service from Martin and Co has outshone the rest. Highly recommend if you’re looking for a home. Thanks again 🌟

Avoid renting with them.
Avoid renting with them.Immersion in the water tank broke down and Martin & Co send a technician that after couple of visits did not fix it. I warned Martin & Co that if the boiler were to break down (is an old one), I would have no hot water, but they disregard my email. 4 weeks after that the boiler broke down. I told them there is no hot water in the apartment but after a week they have done nothing and I am still with no hot water. When I meal them they reply with excuses saying they are tracking down the contractors to get an estimate or that they have contacted the landlord but got an out of office reply.Avoid Martin & Co at all cost, they don't care about you they just care about not upsetting the landlord.

Atrocious service
Atrocious service. I've had 5 appointments for a valuation and each time it's either been cancelled or the estate agent just hasn't turned up with no explanation. Given up now. I'll use someone else.
