DO NOT USE THIS ESTATE AGENTS - as a landlord I foolishly thought that using an agent would provide a certain amount of support and security - I couldn't have been more mistaken. The service I received from A & H was shockingly poor and resulted in costs to me of thousands of pounds. To add insult to injury, they then dipped into the tenants deposit in order to help themselves to disputed fees. My strongest recommendation is that you should choose another agent - any other agent would be a good choice.

I have dealt with this branch for many years. As a landlord I have been very pleased with the way they secure suitable tenants. Renewals and changes of occupancy are dealt with a minimum of fuss. Any maintenance issues are dealt with quickly and efficiently by Amy Garrod the Property Manager. The trades people they appoint have all been of a high standard, and as an absent landlord I've never had the feeling I've been overcharged. I think they deserve the five star rating I've given them.

My experience with Allen and Harris started fine - we were looking to rent a one bedroom flat, and we found one we liked. We were pressured to say we wanted it within a couple of hours, but we were expecting that given the rental market in Bristol so that was not really a problem. - We paid fees and gave our proof of name and address within two hours of seeing the flat. - My partner didn't receive his reference forms for three days because they spelled his name incorrectly in his email address, despite having his passport... - My partner had a problem with his references, but Allen and Harris didn't inform us of this until we rang them to check progress a week after submitting our forms. - We offered a guarantor multiple times, as we had anticipated this problem, but they said it 'will be fine'. - Meanwhile they continued to spell my partner's name incorrectly despite us telling them to correct it multiple times. - We paid our deposit and signed contract (after asking for it to be re-sent as my partner's name was spelled incorrectly...again) - AFTER paying our deposit and signing a contract, and three days before we were due to move in, Allen and Harris demanded a guarantor, and requested the paperwork be returned to them by our guarantor 'within the hour'. As our guarantor is a nurse and she was on shift...that was never going to work. She filled out the forms as quickly as she could and sent them back. - Due to misinformation from Allen and Harris, the guarantor referencing could not be carried out in the two days they'd left themselves to complete it, so they casually rang us up 17 hours before we were due to collect the keys to tell us we couldn't move in. - We met the landlord the next day anyway who took pity on us because she's not a monster, and we managed to move in on the day. - Allen and Harris continued to hassle us for referencing information which they'd been sent, they just didn't bother to open the post to check for it. Towards the end, the agent we'd been dealing with stopped talking to us and kept referring us to his colleagues. They also put a load of stuff in their contracts about particular energy suppliers and broadband people, so we've been essentially harassed by companies we're not interested in. Our landlord was so unimpressed that she's said she won't be going with them next time, and I'm planning a formal complaint to whoever their accredited organisation is. I hate them. I really, really hate them, they made me so unhappy.

Awful customer service. Awful business practices. Treats customers like fecal matter stuck to their shoe. My grandparents have better computer skills than their employees. My pet hamster has better communication skills, and she's been dead for over a decade. You basically pay them to rip you off and sit on your money like Huell from Breaking Bad. This is the first review I've ever done, and if I save even one person from going with this company, it will be worth it. Stay away. This makes it 4 reviews out of 4 being 1 star. Do not believe their website ''vouches''.

I think 1 star is too generous. We were offered a great looking house (maybe the most expensive one in their portfolio) and told we could take it (rent). We passed references and paid 450 quid holding deposit (+ references check, etc). Once we were told the house was ours we asked for a contract to be signed asap as we needed security as we had given notice to vacate were we were staying. We also needed it as proof of address to register ours kids in the local schools. After repeated attempts to get a contract and several promises to call back we started looking around for something else as we couldn´t trust them. Luckily we found another house with another agent and are moving in in a month. To make matters worse they called only 3 days before we were supposed to move in to ask me to sign a contract and told them how appalling and unprofessional their services are. Have read a few comments about them... not a single good one. If you are looking for a rent or buy don´t trust Allen & Harris... the worst of all!

Very Bad Experience

On Friday 29 April we went to Allen & Harris (A&H) to arrange the sale of our house and paid the required marketing fees. Over the weekend we changed our mind and went straight back to the branch at 10am on Monday 2 May (bank holiday) to cancel. We were told that “as nothing had happened yet (i.e. the photographer/surveyor were not arranged), we would be entitled to a full refund”. We spent the next 8-9 weeks trying to get our money back but were continually fobbed off with excuses and lies...the system is down…it should be paid soon…it should be in your account in a few days…it will take 3-5 working days…, none of which happened. Despite 12-15 emails some of which were not replied to, several phone calls and visits to the branch, the delay in paying this refund just got longer and longer. We asked for the contact details of a senior person with whom we could register a complaint but this was never provided. On Friday 17 June we contacted Resolver, an online consumer complaints company and raised our complaint through them. They emailed our complaint to A&H customer services department in Leighton Buzzard. (At no time did the branch inform us that such a place existed.) A member of staff from this department then started to communicate with us trying to resolve this issue by expediting the payment of our refund. This involved yet more emails and phone calls. However, even then on one occasion they did not call us back when promised. Eventually, on 28 June (58 days after we cancelled) we at last received our refund in our account. This whole fiasco proved to be very frustrating and stressful and if this is an example of A&H’s customer service, we are very glad that we changed our mind when we did and did not proceed with our sale. I will be relating this whole saga to as many people as possible to highlight the way we were treated and the ridiculous delay to payment of a refund which should have been accomplished in days as originally promised, not months. We would definitely NOT recommend this company to anyone.

Allen & Harris are great... provided you want to be offered a house, told it won't cost any more, then told it was going to cost more, and if you offer more it'll likely be yours, then told you can't have it. Then, a week later, after you've got over missing out on a fantastic house and started pursuing others, had it re-offered to you, for the original price, and then refuse to contact you and avoid your calls, and again give it to someone else and re-post the advert online, even though you were the first people to view it, and then miss out on the other houses you started pursuing too; then yeh Allen & Harris are the right way to go. Enjoy living on the street.

Coped with the seller from hell

Terrible Service

When it comes to honoring commitments and customer service, Allen and Harris is the worst company to deal with. I've paid for my lease agreement but for the past 4days, it hasn't been treated. I've called more than 20times but no one is picking up. Seems they close by 12noon everyday now. Terrible Terrible bunch. Wouldn't recommend them.

Left work early just for them to no show for our appointment, no text or call or anything, when we finally got through to them they said they had no record of the booking even though we made it 2 days before over the phone with what sounded like exactly the same employee, who gave us the address to meet them at. Didn't have an explanation/apology and obviously didn't care.
