FacebookScriven & Co took over as agents on a long standing tenancy that had been causing major problems due to the previous agents (who shall remain nameless) being hopeless at maintaining a good relationship with the tenant, acting to get necessary maintenance performed, and checking on the quality of the work done, which was invariably cut-price and shoddy. Since Gordon Tibbets has taken the reins, it's been night and day. Re-established good relations, and has been scrupulous about arranging for outstanding maintenance and visiting the house to check up. This is our old family house, but as we moved to the US a number of years ago it's difficult for us to personally keep a close eye on things. A good agent who has the trust of both parties is therefore essential, and it looks like we have finally found one.

GoogleDecades dealing with this lot they just look after their customers the property owners. Gas fire not working, leak under kitchen sink and much much more ignored. Be a day late with rent we will charge interest on that. Like living in a dirty bedsit.

Dear Mark, having reviewed our records we confirm that we have been involved in letting two properties to you. The first property you occupied for a term of 12 months and Scriven & Co were instructed to let and manage this property. This property had no gas and there was no record of any maintenance issues being reported to our offices. The second property was let to you on a “let-only” basis meaning Scriven & Co were not retained as the managing agent, and any issue would have been reported directly to the landlords of this property. For the avoidance of doubt we have only had dealings with you for approximately 1 year and not decades as you specify. We would therefore be very grateful if you would review your comments and amend accordingly.

GoogleWe have been tenants of a Scriven & Co managed property for the past 3.5 years. The only reason we moved on was a decision to move to a more rural area and so outside of the area typically covered by Scriven.
For Landlord’s: Based on our satisfaction with the management by Scriven & co; we felt compelled to leave the property in a better state than we received it. So much so that the landlord requested our forwarding details to thank us personally. We ended up paying for professional carpet cleaning, re-turfing of the entire rear garden along with around a week of our own efforts to make the house fully ‘show home ready’.
For Tenants: Your typical interaction with a letting agent tends to be for one of two reasons; A, something is wrong with the property or B, they are conducting their bi-annual review. For both events it becomes very clear that this is a family-run business grown into something larger. Our conversations with Charles Scriven were enjoyable and friendly, so much so that towards the end of our tenancy we spent a decent time chatting beyond the details of the tenancy. The contractors they use share in the same friendliness and professionalism. During our tenancy; we did not experience any undue rent raises and any issues were dealt with in a timely and professional manner.
Overall our experience with Scriven & Co has been a very positive one, and, weighed up against our experiences with other letting agents in the market, Scriven & Co would be our go to for letting property in the area.
As the letting market becomes harsher for tenants with less properties available to a wealth of potential tenants; many agents have taken on a ‘take it or leave’ attitude, Scriven & Co have shown themselves to be agents that still care.
Landlord’s take note: Happy tenants are long term tenants.

When moving out included things on the inventory that were already like that when we moved in the property and that were in the original inventory. Very bad service. Only care about the expensive service they offer. Would not reccomend to anyone!!!

Many thanks for the feedback. Having checked our records, we assume the tenancy agreement that you are referring to as being received “about a month late” is the same tenancy agreement that was sent to you and the landlord for signature, and then returned to you signed by your landlord after 5 days which we feel is very good.
You mention that items were included on the check-out/final inspection summary “that were already like that” when you moved in. When we completed the final inspection, we cross-checked the condition of the property against the inventory of contents/photographic schedule that was prepared immediately before your tenancy started. When this document(s) was issued to you at the start of your tenancy you had 7 days to make any amendments and return it to our offices to ensure that you were happy with the descriptions. You returned the document within 7 days and any amendments you made were considered during the final inspection.
To read that you experienced a bad service came as a surprise, particularly as your partner thanked both Scriven & Co/your landlord for the service when he returned the keys for the property to our offices following the end of your tenancy.
Finally, concerning the “expensive service”, our records indicate that the only fees you have paid to Scriven & Co are in respect of your tenancy applications and a tenancy renewal, both of which are published and were clearly detailed on the tenancy application that you submitted prior to your tenancy commencing. We regularly review our fees to ensure that we offer good value to all prospective tenants and are competitive.
