Easily the worst agency for a tenant

Easily the worst agency for a tenant, please stay away at all costs.Really shocked by the way my lettings is being handled. Sequence of events below,1. I signed agreement to rent a property on 10th May 2022. Based on this date I gave notice to my current landlord and all my utilities arrangements made.2. After a week Thornley groves came back to me saying that they have to start my tenancy on 6th May 2022 and made me sign a new agreement.( Really not sure the meaning of an agreement if it can be changed often)3. I have been asking the inventory list of the property for a while for which I don't get any response.4. After getting frustrated I ask only one thing if the property has a microwave oven or not. I have been informed that the property has microwave.5. Agent confirmed that I pay rent from may 6 to may 31 only since am moving in only on 6th May.6. Another agent asks me a full month rent for May and said we will workout things when I get the keys for the apartment.7. No solution on the day of key collection regarding balance rent.8. After I move in I have been asked again to sign a new agreement, third agreement till date.9. I asked for one thing from the inventory about the microwave oven, guess what , it's not available in the property.10. I have been promised a refund of my rent, don't believe that is happening any sooner.I wonder if some 5 star rating given for this agency is manipulated.

Avoid like the plague

To put it simply, I have never been with an agency as bad as Thornley Groves. I originally signed with them for a flat in Salford quays - once we moved in, it had clearly not been cleaned and we had to ask them to send cleaners as it was actually making my housemate ill. Then when we moved out, we had cleaned to a good standard and they still charged us a £300 cleaning fee. This was clearly booked in prior to even doing checks as people moved in the next day, so they were always going to clean it regardless. We actually knew the tenants that moved in as well who said it 100% hadn’t been professionally cleaned, but they wouldn’t hear any of it. And then the fee itself, where they got a £300 rate from I had no idea as that was extortionate for a 2 bed flat. Until I looked up the cleaning company, which also happens to be owned by Thornley groves - which I don’t know how they’re legally able to do, it’s a complete conflict of interest to charge tenants cleaning fees that they 100% benefit from. After that experience I wouldn’t go near them as a business but unfortunately they bought out my new rental agency. I ensured this time to pay for a professional cleaner (shouldn’t have to) I had a few extra days to my tenancy and attended the viewing (I would 100% recommend doing this) and to my delight I actually got them to agree to no cleaning fee - as there was literally no way they could justify it. However they have still withheld £150 of my deposit which I have disputed and they conveniently have just stopped replying. It has been almost 4 months since I moved out and I can’t get the money back without paying for legal support - which I am pursuing. Awful agency, pretty terrible staff, would avoid like the plague.

If I could give Thornley groves zero stars I would! Because of lack of communication between my partners landlord and thornley groves asking for the rent date to be changed and not passing this information to the landlord we are now going to be made homeless and out of pocket because of their incompetence!Emailing multiple times and getting no response! Absolutely useless company, Do not use! Shocking!

Poor Agent in Manchester!

This company is a joke! We had one good property manager and the final impression this agent has now given us is back to beyond bad. We ensured the flat we rented was in great condition. In fact better than how we found it. When we moved in the place was trashed, we had to deep clean ourselves: balloons, dust, grime, slime, personal effects and demand notices from the previous tenant! I asked the sales agent at the time would this be professionally cleaned. I was promised it would be. Surprise it was not. Now we have moved out and we are being charge 90 pounds to wipe some surfaces and mirrors. The cleaning company you used is not someone we approve. We replaced chairs broken by your contractors! (We should ask for them back!) We paid rent on time. We went through hell with your initial agent who ended up needing to be terminated through their unprofessionalism in the work place! Now you are trying to squeeze us for money for a clean that you should have had done yourself at the time! Don't use this agent they will send someone out to do a final report that doesn’t know the difference between an extractor fan making a noise and boiler. I have no faith in that report ran and I know Thornley Groves knows it as well. We will be taking further action unless something is done about this. Such a shame after the experience we had with the property managers that weren’t too bad. Shame on you Thornley Groves for distressing and taking good tenants for a ride. I hope this review goes unnoticed because you have really upset us with the way you have treated us.Edit: after many emails and stress you have seen the reason although your passive aggressive emails are not warranted.

Rented a property in Manchester through this estate agent. Were fantastic when it came to showing us round the properties and getting us signed up. However, once we were moved in, they were absolutely useless. The blinds broke on the first night (I assumed just as they were quite old) and didn't get fixed, even by the time we had moved out a year and a half later! Some kitchen cupboards were missing when we moved in and the flat was a tip. Building rubble and paint all over the floor. We requested that this was cleaned before we moved in so this postponed our move in date by 3 days. The estate agents also failed to mention that there was building works going on meters away from our bedroom window for the entirety of our contract. We were also charged a £200 cleaning fee after we left, despite having deep cleaned the flat very thoroughly which was very disappointing. However, I will give credit where it is due. Any urgent issues with the flat (plumbing, boilers etc.) were resolved quickly. They were also helpful when our next flat wasn't ready in time and let us stay in the flat for a few more days.All in all, they weren't the worst estate agents I've ever used but there is definitely room for improvement when it comes to organisation and communication.
