This is my first rental in london but certainly not my first overall. I have found the agents of this company to be very unhelpful, slow to respond, sometimes rude when responding. When I moved in, there was no one to show me around the flat, just keys left in the main office in a random envelope. Thus i had no electricity for the first week as i needed a separate key for the electric meter which no one gave me till i called several times; I did not know my parking space number or how to acquire a permit, I had no idea how the building worked or where to get things and it would've been nice to leave a welcome guide or at least come with me to the flat and show me how things worked. Instead, the one agent who did the viewing was the only one whose number i had, went on holiday the week i was due to move in, so no one to contact and no instructions on who to contact in her absence. I had to call the office everyday to get everything sorted, only found out 2.5 weeks in that there is a completely separate number for maintenance queries, something that would've been very helpful to know when i moved in. All in all, I think they want to extract money from you for the least amount of work possible and I would recommend if you find a similar flat with a different agency, I would go with them instead. There have been a few staff members who were very nice but all in all, I've had the worst rental experience so far and felt abandoned once I signed the agreement. If I wanted to sort everything myself, I would've bought a property. If I am renting, I expect a little assistance from the landlord or the lettings agent and this is what I have received in the past. No such luck with WJ Meade. Would not recommend

Dear Tenant,Thank you for providing more information. I have looked at our notes as well as liaised with all parties. I can see that prior to you moving into the property, you were provided with a tenant ‘how to’ guide which had all details about how we operate, our property management department and how to deal with utilities. This same guide was also sent to you via post once you took occupation. You were also told on a separate email thread about the meter and what you had to do to activate this. Although your lettings manager was on annual leave, you still had access to all other members of the team who were able to help you.The allegations in your review above are unjust and false, but we do understand moving can be a stressful time, so we are sympathetic to your feelings.We are a very professional and well-known agency, and you will see from all of our other reviews, that we score very highly among tenants, landlords, buyers and sellers. Great team, really appreciated their calm approach to navigating the process of selling our flat. From first interactions with Michael, Harry and Billy everyone was friendly and professional. The whole team were really prompt on delivering what they said would happen at each stage and really helped us manage this with a small baby. Would recommend to anyone selling their home.

Michael Whitby and his team provided a great service on the sale of my flat in Mile End. After listing with a national estate agency for several months and receiving no interest, I switched to WJ Meade. Their local knowledge of the area, understanding of a difficult housing market, and effective marketing soon secured a buyer. When that buyer subsequently pulled out, Michael and his team found a new buyer very promptly.Throughout the sale process Michael was very efficient and communicative, always available, and went above and beyond: taking meter readings, dealing with a security alarm, and holding keys when the flat was unoccupied. I highly recommend WJ Meade's Mile End team.
